New RKsport Hood
lol, opps
I purchased the ProCharger / 10# kit from Chris at Blow By Racing. Per Chris, it is ready to go and will be shipped to arrive to me next week.
Xader Vartec, there was so much negative exposure from the first initil hoods, that i highly doubt you will have any issues with a future hood from them.

Went to the body shop this morning and had them do an estimate for painting and install.
They gave me a price of $650+/- and would need the car 3-5 working days.
They told me that they needed to blend the fenders when they paint the hood to make it look right.
I also talked to Frank at RKSport to see if the insulation blanket was needed.
He told me that it wasn't. Also that the hood should be ready to install with very minimal work. Like an hour to an hour and a half and if they have a problem to call him.
The bad news is they can't start the work till middle of next week at the earliest.
I think the price is fair and I have seen some of the work that they have done.
Also a nice shop for my car to stay at night.
What price range are the rest of you getting on this hood, if you don't mind me asking?

Body Shop 1 said "about $400.00" but wouldn't put it in writing, does not include blending into the fenders. Just seemed a little shadey to me.
Body Shop 2 said $690.00, does not include blending into the fenders.
Body Shop 3 said $453.00, does not include blending into the fenders.
Body Shop 4 said $892.00, includes blending into the fenders.
Right or Wrong, I threw out Body Shop 1 & 4 from the decision process. Started asking questions to various people I knew and my insurance company on what they've heard/seen on Body Shops 2 & 3 work. Results favored Body Shop 3.
They all recommended blending into the fenders for a perfect match in color. I was and still am concerned about painting on a brand new car, and they all didn't blame me, since at a future sale or trade in, everyone thinks its been wrecked and can hurt the value. They all said without blending they could get real close but depending on the light and angle you could see a slight difference. They said the "metallics" can lay down & reflect differently (whatever that means) and silver was one of the hardest to match. They all charged about $120.00 extra for the blending.
My hood is has been at Body Shop 3 since this past monday. They've already pre-fit the hood to the body (perfect match up) and it's sanded and primed. Mine had a small chip in the tips of the hood area next to the fender/windshield area when I took it out of the factory box to inspect it. It was a simple fix per the body shop. Also it had a "spider crack" in the front portion of the hood below one of the scoops that could not be seen with the naked eye. It didn't show up until they put something on the hood before sanding, another simple fix per the body shop. All in all the body shop was impressed with the hood quality.
I've about decided not to blend into the fenders but I can't make up my mind. One of my thoughts was if I ever sold the car I would put the factory hood back on and sell the RK Sport hood and if I blended into the fenders then the factory hood wouldn't match. So what's everyone's opinion on the "blending into the fenders" subject ???????????? I still have time to go either way with the body shop.
I talked to the owner of the body shop that has done all my work so far and he said that I could figure by rule of thumb that whatever the hood cost + shipping would be about what I should expect to pay to have it installed and painted.

I went to 4 different body shops in my area to get estimates, I'm doing 2 tone paint. Black in the whole middle area of the hood and satin silver on both outer sides to match the car (like the steeda race hood), also getting my factory spoiler painted black.

Craig, have you thought of doing black behind the scoops only?
I think that would look good also. See picture attached.
I say blend and sell the hood with the car. What are you going to do with just a hood that is matched for you car only? You could sell your other hood on E-bay and recoupe some of the cost.

Robello -- I'll have daylight pics up on friday -- it's 7:30 here in Houston & i'm still at work -- won't be off for another 1 1/2 hrs.
Just couldn't wait for the Body shop to install my hood, so I decided to put it on my 2001 F-150. Do you think I made any horse power with this mod?
Looks great, costs even less and I didn't even have to have it painted or blended.

Yes I did consider that. See my previous post at: [URL=http://forums.bradbarnett.net/index.php?showtopic=25751&hl=]
My family voted following the Steeda Race Hood style with solid black in the middle area. I also purchased the Steeda Sidewinder side stripes. Plus I felt if I did 2 stripes on the hood I would need to follow them thru on the top and back - costing more money.
Lucky that looks awesome bro
I would imagine it was easier for them to match the black paint. Moreso than it would be for silver.
I've heard of problems matching silver as well... so that's probably why they didn't need to blend your fenders.
