Time to start saving

exactly..maybe i can find somewhere that will give an 18 year old a loan for it or maybe i could go around collecting donations for it
ya know...all ya gotta do is go to a big city...ask 45,000 people for 1 dollar...just ONE dollar and give it some time, then u can buy the GT500 hehe

To keep from confusing casual passers-by, this car will cost around $35,000, not $45k. Just steer clear of the sharks.

Does it have to do with the "ecu"? All this electronic stuff confuses me... I know how the old carb engines work but not these new fancy engines.
Yes. With the older computers, you plugged in a chip with a new program. With the newer computers, you download a new program into it (aka "reflash it").

I'm not a technician or anything, but I've learned a few things. You don't want to reflash your computer until you've driven it for a while, in order to let the computer generate some performance data internally, which account for the climate where you live, your driving style, and so on. After that data has helped your computer to fine tune the fuel system, then you take it in for a "baseline adjustment", in which the whole computer is NOT flashed. What they do is download your car's computer data, adjust the baseline, and then re-upload it into your computer again, so it will still contain the fine-tuning adjustments. To do a flash after driving it off the lot, you'd just have to re-flash it again in a year most likely, at a dyno for best results.

Wonder if I can get it below Sticker when it comes out... At http://www.samsclubauto.com/ they were selling 05' GT's for 2-3K under sticker when dealers would not budge. Hopefully they will sell the new Cobra and I can get it for under 35K!

Look for yourself. They are selling hot cars below sticker!

Anybody look into this besides me?

That's sweet. The only bummer is I think it killed my plans to put white stripes on my torch red GT. I think, with the Shelby Mustangs coming soon that it will make people who put stripes on their GTs look like posers.

I've got a Torch Red GT with white stripes, and I can honestly say that I had them done well before the Cobra was shown to the public.

So, is this a chicken or the egg type of situation?
Stripes or no stripes its going to be easy to pick out a Shelby Mustang amung other GT's and V6's...

If you put Cobra emblems on your GT you would be a poser... But everybody is entitled to racing stripes

I planned on the stripes way before I got my car. I have had a picture of a red 66 Shelby with white stripes on the wall in my garage for about five years. Maybe I'll go to plan B and put black stripes on it. I saw one in Florida a couple of weeks ago and it looked tough... Not so nostalgic. But tough all the same.

I personally LOVE the new Shelby GT500 Mustang...even the "SHELBY" emblem on the rear hatch. The strips are also very cool. Its a nostalgic throwback to the orginal. I personally remember the Cobra's (Rodster and Shelby Mustang) crusing the streets cranking Zepplin...and I don't want any cosmetic change on the new 2005 Shelby GT500. In the future I'm OK with adding side scoops as long as they are functional.

I hope they offer a white with blue strips and metallic grey with black strips.

My reserve is the Non IRS...My guess is because of cost they choose to opt for the solid axle. The Ford FR500 had a trick IRS setup which rivaled the Vettes. Its also possible they might throw the IRS on a BOSS edition?

I suppose they will add an IRS with latter models...maybe 2007???

My guess is sticker price should be around $40K but with all the left over stock scam money of the 90's and home equity...prices could very well get bidded to the extreme...$50K-$60K

The Shelby has potential for MUCH more power. 5.4L DOHC blown running a 8.5psi boost...this could be bumped to near 12psi and gearing could be changed. I would say 500+ HP is attainable with aftermarket pulley and reprogrammed chip. The engine should easily handle that kind of power.

This could very well be a Vette eater.

Thanks Shelby!!!

I think you hit the nail on the head. No way this car is maxxed out! SVT pushes the limits far more than stock. That 8.5 psi should be a red flag to anyone who wants to get more out of it, though. That is some serious pressure! Most bolt-on blowers give you, what, like 5 psi? The bolt-on Paxton Novi 1200 for classic Mustangs is right about there. That 8.5 is only possible due to the Ford GT parts in this new engine.

I would say flashing the computer alone will give you 20-30 horses alone. Would a K&N really help? After all, this isn't just a fuel injection air pipe. My guess is, the blower intake is already as efficient as you could make it. Let's take a guess; without royally screwing up this great car, you can probably push it to 500 hp, at the expense of longevity. Personally, 450 is enough for me. That is already a very good ratio of 1.36 horses per cubic inch. After the warranty expires, then I'll probalby start doing some minor mods.
Ummm, just wanted to clear this up.

Do a quick search on this and other forums like SVTPerformance.com. The '03 and '04 Cobra's also came from the factory with around 8.5 lbs of boost. A pulley swap and new chip and exhaust can get these cars close to 500rwhp, while retaining the stock Eaton blower. There are lots of guys running those cars with after-market Kenne Bell blowers putting out well over 15 lbs of boost and making well over 600hp at the rear wheels. This is on the completely stock internals.

Ford overbuilt the previous Cobra's engine to a very large degree, and from the specs i have read for the Shelby's engine, they are doing the same thing with the new motor. The '03-'04 engines have proven themselves almost unbreakable, unless you do something really stupid (like running it lean, ouch).

In testing, the '03-'04 motors have been taken to over 900hp on the stock internals with enough boost, enough race fuel, and a proper tune. Keep in mind, the Shelby's engine is built around an even stronger block, and will come from the factory with a twin screw blower that has displacement to rival those after-market Kenne Bell blowers. So, i am expecting alot of headroom in the new motor with just a quick pulley swap and tune. And, i don't expect longevity to be an issue.

Also, when i referred to a reflash before, i was talking about needing it in conjunction with a pulley swap. The reflash will be required to make the engine computer provide the correct amount of fuel for the larger amount of boost.

Hope this helps. Later.

That is really awesome stuff. Just goes to show my ignorance, as my knowledge is old school. I never planned on buying a modern Mustang, as my two 68's keep me busy. But this new GT500...whoa. !! :worship:

Hey All Thanks From Him I'm Sure ! I'll ask for a guest appearance.

Ok Clarify my statement...the sticker price will be near $40K, maybe $38-39K, just said $40k because whats two grand? My 1996 Cobra sold for $28K...its called inflation and pricing...maybe you are in the GT crowd because $35K is low...even a 03 Cobra sold in the low $30K...

Secondly, the name is SHELBY...people want these cars...Look at the Ford GT and how it got bidded to the stratosphere!!! The suspension, chassis and engine are NEW designs...they cost money even when they are shared with the GT program. Not to mention the custom leather interior...

I don't want this to happen...wish the price would be $35K...but there is a lot of slush money out there and people who make some coin...people in there 40's with professional careers, will pay $40-$55K plus. I'll bet thats still cheaper than BMW M5 and others? Shelby...

Lastly, the non IRS is what will help keep the price down...so maybe I could be wrong?
