I hear people saying dealers have 'details' or are placing deposits. Dealers have no information about the car at all other then what is floating around on the Internet. I guess you could place a 'deposit', but there is not way they can promise anything whatsoever because you did.I would imagine that SVT probably puts breakaway body colored mirors by production time, and with IRS mules running around, who knows yet what the fate of the suspension will be in a year from now.

The statement about deposit is also ignorant. Ford has no preorder program, so each dealer takes care of pre-orders on their own. Just like the last SVT Cobra Mustang, and like the Ford GT, there is a waiting list--per dealer. Each dealer is free to mark up the prices if they wish, and customers are free to shop elsewhere. I simply said that Penske dealers do NOT mark up vehicles regardless of demand. It's a first-come, first-served waiting list. When a particular model arrives, the next person on the list gets a phone call. That policy is what prompted me to put down a deposit now, over a year in advance. When the first SVT Cobra GT500 arrives at this dealer, I will get a call. I will then have the opportunity to accept whatever color and options it came with, or turn it down and wait for the next one.

you are obviously new. Kevin is a dealer and has established himself on the site a long time ago. Most if not all the people here respect his opinion.

Okay fine, but my deposit is more likely to result in a real car than your "verbal agreement." That's all I've been trying to say all along. Not all Ford franchises are the same, you know. Those listed on the Ford web site as "SVT Resellers" and who I know have sold Ford GTs and SVTs in the past couple years will be a reliable source to put down a reserve payment, given how crazy it will be when this car goes into production. The dealer that I visit has a waiting list already, and that list does not involve any markup.
But darn if I'm not smacked down for sharing that unpopular discovery.

My comment to you was how you were disrespecting an established member of the board when you were new to the board. Your first posts should be less attack oriented and more appreciative. You shouldn't try to come across as a know it all unless you know who you are arguing with. Kevin is an established SVT salesman. What are you?

Thought some of you might be interested. On the home page, click on "2005 NY Auto Show", then "my report 365 photos", then click on "Shelby Cobra GT 500 Reveal", and go half way down the page, and click on "more photos". Now, go halfway down the page, count down to the 10th photo on the left hand column.
You see a photo of the Shelby steering wheel, but when you click on to it, this is what appears. What is the red button for on the dash?
Also, check out the 2 gauges on the pillar.

I'm pretty sure this is the interior of the red mule that we've seen many times. I'm also pretty sure the red button is the "kill switch". The gauges were probably added to keep an eye on things while development was underway. I noticed these things awhile back but can't remember if there was discussion about them.

thanks! kill switch sounds logical. wonder what the gauges are...... boost? oil pressure? wonder if they will be situated there on the production model?

If you look at the pictures of the dash, you'll see the boost gauge on the dash.

was hard to see with the white SVT background so I looked at the my color one. shows right up. Your right.
So.... the 2 main gauges are mph, and rpm [tack]
the 4 smaller gauges are water, oil, fuel, boost.
What are the 2 gauges on the pillar? only thing left I can think of is battery, and I can't see it being put there, I could see an oil pressure gauge, instead of the dummy gauge being there, especially where they were testing it out.

1 is the "KY" guage and the other is the "$$ over MSRP" guage.....

The pillar gauges were in the mule only, not the show car. They probably are boost and oil pressure. Doesn't really matter, they aren't for production.
I think Webba's answer is very funny.
