Yeah, think of all the original Shelby Mustangs that were modded out to look "badazz" in the vernacular of the day, only to be a value crushing horror show today -- "how could they do that to that beautifull '68 GT500! What were they thinking...". Of course, if its your car, you can do what you darn well please, but at the risk of greatly reducing potential future value of not done very carefully and readily reversably. Think of the value of a pristine and completely original '67 GT500 vs. one that has all sorts of, errr, improvements.

That is why I said "reversible." CAI, Exhaust, reflash, probably even a pulley. Anything that can be bolted on and then back off without modifying body structure or whatever.

At first I will have that "I don't want to mod it" feeling as well. But, sooner or later, that "I know there are another 100hp/tq under there if I just add these 4 or 5 little parts" feeling will beat up the first feeling and the car will go from scarry fast to insane.

And I can't wait 'til it does.

flowmasters
some sort of k&n
cdc window scoops

Well, speaking just for myself, there is no way i could own this car and not do at least a pulley swap and reflash. I am expecting these simple mods to put close to 600hp at the rear wheels. I wouldn't change anything on the body or do any major internal engine work though. But, i don't think that engine needs any work done, and the body is just about perfect to me. So, it isn't an issue.

It is reversible. THe programmers will save the original Ford program. The configuration from Ford is a compromise between performance, reliability, and emissions. The most obvious reason to reflash is to alter the program to account for modifications or to gain benefit from higher octane fuel.

I think Ford downgrades them to improve fuel economy, avoid gas guzzler tax, and insurance rates.

I agree. The fad in the 60's & 70's was to add trinkets to the outside, supposedly to make it look faster? Even the Shelby's are a bit obnoxious with the rear brake scoops top and bottom (how much air do the darn brakes need?). In contrast, the new Shelby looks strong but lean. Sort of like comparing a Mr. Universe candidate with a heavyweight boxer? LOL. I like that analogy. The new car needn't advertise it's power with trinkets tacked onto the body.

I think you hit the nail on the head. No way this car is maxxed out! SVT pushes the limits far more than stock. That 8.5 psi should be a red flag to anyone who wants to get more out of it, though. That is some serious pressure! Most bolt-on blowers give you, what, like 5 psi? The bolt-on Paxton Novi 1200 for classic Mustangs is right about there. That 8.5 is only possible due to the Ford GT parts in this new engine.

I would say flashing the computer alone will give you 20-30 horses alone. Would a K&N really help? After all, this isn't just a fuel injection air pipe. My guess is, the blower intake is already as efficient as you could make it. Let's take a guess; without royally screwing up this great car, you can probably push it to 500 hp, at the expense of longevity. Personally, 450 is enough for me. That is already a very good ratio of 1.36 horses per cubic inch. After the warranty expires, then I'll probalby start doing some minor mods.

Humm I wonder if there is an AAA type of group to help people not to just one more tiny little mod nobody wll notice When and if I get my GT I will then try to order a GT-500 and will keep it as plane as Jane can get Virgin all the way , well almost
