The ducktail on the Shelby is really sharp looking
And everyone stop using the word "poser"... Who cares what other people think, it's your car!
Just checked out SVT's "updated" website... And yes it includes the Shelby GT 500 Mustang! Check it out:

As I said on another forum in regards to the NEW Shelby, (no, I'm not ashamed to use the same handle/identity/whatever) and I quote MYSELF, "Kind of a letdown. I'm having visions of Chrysler/Dodge Shelby's. They didnt have to do an Eleanor clone or a total throwback to the old days, but how about something "Different"? So they massaged the front end, and put a ton of Shelby accessories on it, whooptie doo. As an SVT I think it's great, just what we expected from the gurus at SVT. HP and lots of it. As for it being a Shelby and a GT 500 at that, I'm very disappointed, looks like just another overpriced sticker/badge package.
They said there would be other surprises at the auto show, is this it? Don't get me wrong, I support this hobby 110%, I was just expecting more. I guess I was expecting an SVT AND a Shelby. The SVT could be an N/A 5.4L while the Shelby could have the S/C. Performance wise, I think they hit the mark, visually its like the Gran AM / GTO thing. "
Ok, so it's not just a hobby, but a way of life as well. I thought maybe I was one of those folks who wasnt satisfied with anything, but then I remembered how floored I was when I first saw the '05. I can be impressed and CAN be satisfied. I personally think somebody chose the "so-so" door instead of the "Take-A-Chance and make something Great" door when they made the new car.

This has kinda been discussed already. Some people want flashy, some want subtle. I'm in the subtle, but, notable differences catagory. They nailed this one right on the head. If you want something different, look at Saleen. It's different.

1) The car looks great.
2) The car should really move (and stop if it's not too heavy)
3) No IRS on a performance car in 2005 is completely unacceptable.
I'm driving an '01 Cobra (my fourth Mustang), and I'm sick of fighting off lesser drivers in E46 M3's when I'm open-tracking. Ford finally has a decent chassis, but they choose to use underpinnings from the 60's. It'll go in a straight-line for sure, but Ford will never garner the respect of true performance enthusiasts until they ditch solid rear axle.
$40,000 should get you the 4.6 cammer N/A and the IRS.

the front looks amazing... they hit that straight on. but the rear looks pretty tame outside of the ducktail. I like the Shelby script, but they should have elongated those rear lights ala old shelby, or done something similar to Doug's Centerfire.
Stumbled upon this forum while browsing for info on this car. I have to tell you, I was stunned when I saw the first photos of it. Stunned. I went down to the local Ford dealer and slapped $500 down to get myself an early ticket. Turns out I'm a bit early, first in the file. I dunno what that means about availability, but at this one dealer I suppose I'm first in line. What the dealer told me was pretty much what you all have said here, but also here are the color schemes that will be available:
Black
White
Silver
Red
Your best guess as to the stripes that will go with each one. I'm guessing Gold on Black, Blue on White, Dark Gray on Silver.
You might also appreciate the fact that not all dealers jack up the price. Penske dealerships, for instance (and they're all over the USA) have a policy of selling right at MSRP, with no markup. The sales dude told me he just sold a Ford GT last week right at MSRP. The SVT Cobra "Shelby GT500" will sell right at MSRP at least at Penske-owned dealerships, right at $35,000 & change.
As for the production date, the dealership told me what they're hearing from Ford is "mid-2006". I've got my fingers crossed, though. Know why? You know production of the 05's has been increased this spring? Maybe that'll include the 2006 SVT Cobra.
Personally, I understand this is an SVT Cobra, not built by Shelby, but I see it as more of a "real Shelby" than the GT-350SR or GT-500E. Those are produced by a third party licensed by Shelby American, and all they are is restomodded fastbacks. This is FORD, people. Just like in 1965. Only difference is, instead of Carroll building these babies himself, SVT is doing it.
I feel incredibly excited about this car, and feel that after a lifetime of fanhood I'll finally be a "Shelby owner". Know what I mean? This will be my first new car. I've always bought used. But I feel the price of this car is absolutely justified and it's worth every penny. I believe it will hold its value--then again I'll never sell it.

I, too, am on that short list. I already cannot sleep at night. This car will be a real Shelby in my opinion.
This car is perfect. It's what I've been waiting for for years. I hope Ford doesn't change a thing.
Jsharbour, welcome to the boards. I think your comments are right on the money.
This car with a straight axle will out handle the old cobra with IRS, so for me not having an IRS isn't a big deal.

Wonder if the exhaust is actually going to be loud? On past Cobras it has been kinda "soft".
