I use to like the pistol-grip ones but I don't think I would like it in this car

It was harder than the older cars due to having to work underneath the car but not too dificult. It took about 1 hour.

Thanks... How do you end up testing a prototype Hurst shifter anyways? Connections?

Any word on a production date?

I'm glad to here it can be installed from the top. It may sound kinda wimpy, but I'm not keen on removing the driveshaft.

Where did you understand it was installed from the top, to me it almost sounds as though it is installed from the bottom, How bout it Mike, can you clarify this and give us a little more info.

The Hurst guys have been working with Roush to develop their new shifter but since Roush is in Michigan they needed a local 05 Mustang to test the shifter in.

The shifter can be worked in from the top without removing the driveshaft but it would be quicker to remove the driveshaft. You still have to work under the car to remove the 2 bolts at the rear, one bolt on the transmission and one bolt on the shift linkage.

Being from the old school I think that Hurst shifter is great and I hope to put one on mine when it arrives. BTW the white **** has always been a tradition with Hurst until Plymouth and Dodge got them to put the pistol grip on their cars.

You guys need to practice going from 2nd to 3rd then as I am having no problems.

Originally I went out of second into neutral position for a quick second then mnoved it straight up (that would go into 3rd), but then I figured out that you just need to push 2nd hard up with a very SLIGHT force to the right and it goes into 3rd perfectly.

Just what I have found from driving my manual gt.

S197 pilot -- Have you noticed any more transmission/gear noise having gone to the new shifter? I've had several mustangs with aftermarket shifters and they all transmitted significantly more noise into the cabin. This would be an important consideration for me as this will be my daily driver for a while.

No noise at all on the 05. This is very unlike the shifters on the old cars with direct mount shifters.

Anybody know if the Hurst is now available and if so, has anyone else got it in their car?

Ranger,

I e-mailed Hurst the other day, and no 05 shifter yet. They didn't even give me an ETA.

Scott -

Thanks. Coming from the old school I naturally lean toward Hurst but realize "times change" and there might be something better if I do want another shifter other than stock.

It's a steeda tri-axe shifter with a hurst stick and t-handle
The part number for the stick is 0530538-8550
T-handle is 0530153-4813

I got both the stick and T-handle from Jegs, stick was 51.99 and the T-handle was 24.99 I ordered the shifter through stangnet and got that for 221.00 (Or something like that)
Granted it's a bit pricy but personally I wanted the old school look (just isnt a mustang without seeing a chrome hurst stick). I'm sure some people dont like it but that what makes modding the mustang so much fun seeing what everyone else is doing.

I'll just add that I'm really happy with the setup as well. I can rest my hand on the shifter and the volume control for the radio is right there (in 1st, 3rd and 5th) And if I allowed something in the cup holder I wouldn't be hitting it everytime I shifted.
