Very interested to see how that boots turns out..I would love to retro fit an old hurst boot with the chrome trim and the hurst emblem!!!
I put a longer Hurst handle on mine, it looks very retro and it has made the leverage much better...much eisier shifts now...stock throw was 4", Hurst with small stick 2 ", now with the longer handle 3"...PERFECT!

Also picked up a Hurst emblem for "Jessica".
Let it be known that I and a cast of others (Burke0011, mustangshadow, photolabgirl, ChrisM) take full credit for the positioning of that badge It does look great BTW

Yeah. You should have seen us out there trying to get EXACTLY right. A bunch of Mustang perfectionists taking 10 minutes to put on one little emblem.

Sorry to say I didn't buy the boot, but if anyone wants to try it, I know I can pick it out on one of the Mustang parts websites. I think it was from a '70.

I just found this boot in the Hurst online catalog, if anyone else has seen this do you happen to know the dimensions? Sure would be sweet if it would fit in the 05-07 Stangs.

Yes. That's my favorite one, but it's not long enough.

Also something to consider is not only the dimensions of the opening, but the height of the boot. Unless you want it to cover all or most of the stick, I'd only want the boot to be 1" or so high at the most.

Good point MTAS, I agree 100%

Back to the emblem, here's a picture I found of it mounted on the fender, what do you guys think? Good, bad, something in between? Sometimes I like it, sometimes I think it's too much.

Too close to the GT emblem, IMO. Otherwise it doesn't look bad.

How do you think it would look using the small emblem? Maybe even below the GT instead.

Are you guys looking at mounting that boot on top of the console? That's not really the way it's been done historically, in the 60's & 70's the accordian style boots were mounted to the floor pan even if there was a console. Basically there was just a big opening in the console and you could see the boot inside it. I guess you could mount it on top of the console, but IMO that would look weird.

On the Hurst emblem, I don't like it that close to the GT emblem, they don't look right together. The Hurst emblem is vintage in appearance while the GT emblem looks modern.

IMO a great looking setup would be the new shifter bezel that is available for '07 (because it's a clean design, not like that fugly thing from UPR), and a rectangular rubber/accordian boot that's short enough to go no higher than the bottom of the 'T' on the chrome handle. As far as where to put the boot, on top of or below the lip of the console, if it could be attached to the bezel that would be ideal, like the vinyl boot is now. Hmmmm....with that setup, maybe the small "Hurst Equipped" emblem could go just behind the lip of the bezel, maybe 1/4" away or so

Ahhh yes, it is too close. Nice photoshop of the emblem, it does look better smaller. I think I like the Hurst emblem above the GT only because the straight line on the bottom of the Hurst emblem matches the straight line at the top of the GT, if that makes sense. Thanks for taking the time to photoshop the emblem.

Check out this pre-production pic. The shifter hole is either smaller or the boot had a "plate" in it.

I'm a big fan of Steeda products. Almost all of the upgrades to my '97 were from Steeda, including the Tri-Ax shifter. Naturally when I purchased my '05 I bought the Steeda shifter and installed it right away. I was happy with it as far as it being short throw and changing gears were on point, meaning no missed gears or grinding. I like that it has stops to keep you from jacking up your gearbox. What I didn't like was the noise coming from the transmission. Several peices of Dynamat helped quiet thigs down a bit. I really liked the look of the Hurst shifter, so one day when the ole lady wasn't looking I ordered the Hurst. The Hurst arrived and I installed it and let me tell you IMO it is a better piece than the Steeda. It shifts great, looks great, and even the ole lady is pleased. Is it a shorter throw than the Steeda? I dunno, since I was in such a hurry to get it installed I forgot to take some measurements. It "feels" shorter but your mileage may vary. With that I'll close with for S197 series Mustang the Hurst shifter is the way to go, and it should be even better once they make one with stops.

I was just about to make a post on that myself as I saw Jegs is now offering both Hurst shifters for 05+. It's only a few dollars differnce between the two.
