mrkabc,

no drama going on here. the hurst is a great shifter! if your looking into the hurst shifter, get it. bolt it in and you will be satisfied. trust me. dont let any of this drama get to you in not purchasing what you want. I bought the hurst, I bolted it in, and have had no problems and i love it. go for it.

I've always loved that smiley.
It reminds me we're all good friends here and also not to take things too seriously.

So did Hurst change the instructions or change the defective shaft?

I remember right before the forum crash someone was working with Hurst on this issue and somehow found a solution with Hurst.
I'm still wondering if the shifter was redesigned or they're still using the original design. Wasn't it if you installed it right on one end the other end was messed up and vise versa?

As far as I know it was simply the instructions that were wrong.
No problems what-so-ever with mine.

Well I just took and put urathane bushings on my stock shifter and welded the top handle to the shaft to get rid of the slop that it has and its nice and tight and the shifts are great now. Plus no added noise with the bushings. It just keeps the shifter tighter. I left the stock rubber bushing on the rear to keep it isolated from the body pan. I did have my Steeda Tri-Ax and I hated it. It became noisy and caused a lot of vibration under hard acceleration. Plus with a new clutch the car feels great! If I had to go with another shifter I would use the Hurst because It has a similar design to stock.

You got it!
Sorry the pic isn't that great. The sun is too bright right now for a decent pic.

I remember a similar post after you installed the B&M!

Don't get me wrong, as I'm not busting your chops for being a pioneer. I've learned a lot from your testing of the spacer and the B&M shifter.

I do wonder whether the linkage broke on your transmission because the B&M doesn't have stops built in like the Steeda and Pro 50. I'm holding out for the new Hurst shifter that is due sometime next month, since it does have stops, and I want a chrome stick and ball.

If I end up being worth a darn, I'll pick one up and post an early review, so I can return the favor to all the pioneers here. Unfortunately, I only have the stock slopter to compare it to, so my feedback value will be somewhat limited.

I love my Hurst!! I have had absolutely 0 problems. The ONLY thing I would change would be the angle of the shaft. I think it needs to be angled back a little more than it is. I have the “T†handle and with it in “N†the Hurst logo is facing too far forward, I think it should be straight up and down, maybe a 20-degree bend?? A little picky I know but I like looking down and seeing “HURSTâ€! I have not used the ball, I’m all about the “Tâ€! I park in a garage so it does not get hot at all, the one time I did park outside in the full sun, MAN, almost got branded!

Hey STANGNUT, where did you get that steering wheel!! That thing looks AWESOME!!

Joe,
Yes, the handle definitely needs to be angled back more... and maybe a little to the left for my taste. As far as I know the only replacement handles Hurst makes are all way too tall for this shifter.

Thanks for the compliment on the wheel. Got it from http://www.stwheel.com/. (it's not on the website yet though) Everyone thinks I'm crazy for spending so much money on it ($1000), but without a doubt, it's one of my favorite mods.

Add me to the list of satisfied Hurst Comp+ owners. Action is very short as previously stated. Seems even shorter with the stock **** compared to the chrome stick and ball. I was able to check out MTAS' shifter with the chrome stick at our dyno session a while back. I ordered mine two days later.

A little extra effort is required and it's a little clunkier than the mushy stock shifter, but that's ok because this is a man's car baby! I appreciate the positive feedback that I get from the shifter. 3rd gear is more accurate and 5th is easier now in my opinion.

An added micro-bonus is that I can now see the rear window defog indicator light without leaning forward. It was previously obscured by the shifter when in 5th gear. Now I won't leave it on longer than needed.

Hmm. Never thought of that. I'm not sure if it helped me see mine.

Any pics with the stock ****?

Here's 3 shots in 3rd gear, neutral, and 4th gear to show the length of the throw. Other than the throw, the stock shifter looks exactly like it did before I installed the Hurst shifter. It appears to be the same height as before. I'm already thinking about a t-handle though.

Phil,
How does your handle attach to the shifter itself? Does it look like the "other" Hurst handle? In other words, do they look like they're interchangable?

Anyone know if the shifter handle from MGW will fit the Hurst shifter? I really like the way that handle feels. I checked out the Hurst in a friends' (Railray) car and I liked the feel and action of it but, I would prefer a different handle. TIA to anyone with the answer.

MGW doesn't offer a shifter handle for the '05. If you're talking about the shifter **** it won't fit the Hurst shifter that has the chrome handle, (see pic in post #38) but it will fit the other one like Phil (LimeGT) has.
