I understand it will allow for manual shifting- but Im struggling to understand how it works. Does one "switch" this into manual mode somehow? Ive used an autostick- but you moved the shifter into a different "channel" which took it out of auto mode.

Sorry- I've gone back 180 messages and its still not clear to me?
There is basically no performance increase with this shifter, you just ditch the poor factory unit for something that looks and shifts better... the shifter, not the tranny.

No - I get that- I'm counting on some of the new decals Ive ordered to boost my Hp.....

I guess my question was more specifically HOW does one change gears, describe this "slapping", and how do you operate in normal auto mode vs slap mode....

I think he answered this in one of the many posts of this thread (it's getting long! ) I believe he said that you would simply put in in D (lifting up on the stick like you would to get it into park and reverse maybe?) and then it's back to normal.

Or maybe I dreamt that up... I'm to lazy to browse through and find it.

Doug’s tunes are killer and if he is going to do one for this shifter then it will be like adding a performance shift kit to the auto tranny.

I have his 91 Race tune and the shift points are much improved, I can get a 2nd gear scratch with my 285-40-18’s so a tranny tune for this shifter should help increase performance even if it won’t add horse power.

So are we going to have to purchase a tune with the shifter? Or will the shifter come with a tune that will alter just the transmission functions so that the shifter works porperly? If we have to purchase an addition tune with the shifter, that sounds wrong to me.

The shifter will function properly without a tune!!!

There is nothing new to add to the table(s) to increase performance over the stock shifter.

Right - the whole point of this new shifter is to let us get the most out of the manual-shift capability of the Mustang automatic.

The main thing I'm looking to do is get rid of the cheap plastic factory shifter. If I wanted to shift a manual, I woulda bought one.

Same here, Los Angeles isn't a fun place for a manual transmission in heavy traffic! At least, I wouldn't enjoy it.

Get rid of the plasticy toy feeling factory handle, and the ability to push the transmission to 3rd and hold it there while coming down mountain roads with out worring about accidentally hitting 2nd. I don't race, so I'll mostly just let the computer shift.

Here in the D.C. area, we're right behind L.A. in terms of traffic, and that's exactly the reason I got the automatic. I didn't want to have to replace the clutch twice a year!

I can also vouch for B&M's quality, after using a Quicksilver ratchet in my old 340 Sebring. Rock-solid it was, and I can't wait to put the new one in my GT!

The idea here, gents, is that you get the best of both worlds. You get the automatic (stick it in drive and for get it) feature for the daily commute and the ability to select the gear you want, on demand feature, for the drag strip or when carving curves on some back road.

And then of course, it looks better.

I could hold it for you until the shifter is released, if you want.

Seriously now, I can't wait to order it!

I anticipate being able to start taking orders for them IN Dec... Sure, i could take orders for them now, but i would prefer to begin when we have some supply of parts so I can give everyone accurate ship times....Sorry for the arduous process and time involved boys, but this new design project has taken time and we have alot of irons in the fire right now @ B&M with stuff going on....

Chris, no apologies necessary. Again, we all appreciate your efforts and those of your design team.

Tell you what - take them all out for lunch on Brad!

How much taller is the shifter compared to the stock one. It seems to me to be a little to tall.
