Questions for Chris (subzero05):

1. What is the exact sequence of the gears? (i.e. P-R-N-D-5-4-3-2-1).

2. What (if any) action is required to shift between gears (e.g. 2nd to 3rd)? Same question goes for shifting between P, R, N and D.

3. As I don't live in the US but I'm very interested in this shifter, will it be possible to place an overseas order somewhere (B&M, dealers)?

Do you plan to offer a specific tune file for those of us who already have an XCal2?

Yes, a tune for the tranny with THIS shifter.
Have you read the whole thread? Maybe you wanna have a look on pages 20 and 21, at the conversation between Chris and Doug (starting from post #400).

 

Yes, that is basically the shifting sequence and you can move up and back through the gears like an Autostick, similar to units found in BMW's etc..it is a full ratchet design. We do have international dealers, so you could likely order from someone out your way. I do believe Bamachips is working on a specific tune to work well in conjunction with this shifter once released.

 

Okay, I'll risk sounding like an idiot. I've never driven an BMW or ratcheting autostick - at least i don't think I have. I've driven an autostick that slides to the left into a separate slot for manual mode, at which point you either push forward or pull back to change gears. Since there is no separate slot on this one, how do you change gears? Yes, i've read the whole thread, and I'm still unclear (there's the idiot part). The picture shows P/R/N/4/3/2/1. How is that different from the stock shifter? Where is the shifter when in manual mode? Does it spring back into position after you push or pull to change gears?

 

Rich, essentially you are correct in the "shifting" action of this shifter, but you will not move the stick into a separate slot.It moves up and back with a quick "slap" type response...

 

subzero05. Any advanced details on the install. I think that im going to order one when they come out. Just curious if its within my comfort zone for install...

 

None yet.. I will tell you that I recommend a friend and a lift if at all possible...

 

I'll be speaking with Chris about this at Sema this year and I'll take some new photo's of it while I'm there for everyone. As for a specific tune I'll have to look into that when I get mine. I dont think I can really do anything for it BUT I will say that the new Automatic does have a completely seperate table for shifting when it is done maually so I may be able to mess with that a bit.

Also, if I get setup as a dealer I ship oversea's regularly so it's not a problem if you live outside the US.

So when you slap it to change gears, does it sanp back into a default position or does it stay where you slapped it to? If it springs back to a default, where is that default? Above the P?

 

Rash, I expect that it will work like the B&M Quicksilver shifter I had in my old 340 Sebring twenty years ago. The shifter will rest in "D" and the indicator will show what gear it's in. When you shift back and forth, it will always return to "D."

 

Just thought I'd chime in on this... I've been reading this thread with GREAT interest! Shifting the trans manually with the Ford shifter is pretty sloppy. A friend of mine just bought a new Lexus with both a slap-type shifter on the console and paddles on the steering wheel - TOO COOL! This shifter for the Mustang will be a great improvement and I can hardly wait to get one myself!!!

OK- besides the aesthetic differences, can someone briefly summarize the functional differences from stock?

I understand it will allow for manual shifting- but Im struggling to understand how it works. Does one "switch" this into manual mode somehow? Ive used an autostick- but you moved the shifter into a different "channel" which took it out of auto mode.
