Quick update on the effect of the recent brake mods.

Issue 1: Pedal sagging to the floor under heavy braking making it hard to heal-and-toe.
FIXED. Pedal was firm, and travel returned to normal. Heal and toe was no issue. No fade at all either, consistent performance all day long. SS lines and proper flush with racing fluid did the trick.

Issue 2: tail of the car swinging left to right under heavy high speed braking.
FIXED. The XP8s in the back fixed the problem. It must have been due to too heavy front bias. Now the car tracked straight right into ABS.

Issue 3: Brake deposits on front and rear rotors half way through the day.
FIXED. No deposits after nearly 2h of track time. This is the first time ever. I think that the combination of proper bias with XP8s and GT500 cooling shields in the front are helping here. Rotors were clean.

Brakes are better than ever!

P.S I have not observed any weeping yet.

 

Changed back to my street setup today. My race pads are at about 60% now after 5 track days. Not bad I suppose. I think I can get 8 days total before replacing them with ~3mm lining left or so.
Still loving the Russel lines. Nice firm pedal all day long. I kept XP8s in the back. I'll check in in a few days to provide feedback on noise/dust situation with XP8s in daily driving.

 

Sounds like good success so far! I just ordered some raybestos st47 pads which should be plenty of pad for the tracks that are harder on brakes this year. Get to try things out with the bleeder fixes on Thursday and I'll report back if they fix things.

You should be good with that pad setup until you go to slicks though. Lots of stopping power!

Ha, yeah, no plans for slicks as of now. I think once the S04s wear out I'll put on BFG Rivals in 285/35-19. I want to keep it on street tires. Extreme performance street tires. One level up from where I am now.

 

Considered Nitto NT01's? I mention slicks because you can get lightly used ones for like $500 a set... really hard to beat!

Oh how I hope the brake issues I've been fighting are resolved now with the new axle, calipers, bleeder inserts and bleeders, cooling, etc etc. Weather looks promising, so it should be a fun day!

Well done on the brakes. Good luck for your upcoming track dates. My next one is in three weeks...can't wait. Rear brakes are still my only weak spot on the car, hopefully turning TC/SC all the way off will help. I'm also working on a rear brake upgrade, if successful, I'll post up a new thread.

Finally I have some much anticipated suspension mods! After lots of deliberation and research I decided on the following:

1) Steeda Sport springs

Front: 1" drop and 200 lb/in spring rate
Rear: 1.25" drop and 175 lb/in spring rate

2) Steeda HD upper strut mounts.

This will allow me to dial in much needed negative camber. I can go up to-2.5 deg with these and this will make a HUGE difference in mid corner grip I think.

3) Steeda adjustable PH bar

4) Shocks/Struts

Still TBD on these

 

If you can wait a little bit, I should have my bags on within the next couple weeks, and I'll have some lightly used Koni Yellows for sale...I've put about 10k on them, but pretty much all on the street. Well, technically ALL on the street, but that includes a couple canyon runs.

 

Hmm, I usually want to buy new for my car. Since I track it I want to avoid any wear and tear if possible. But I may consider. Let me know when you're ready.

Unfortunately it is the latter. Car is put away till spring. Good news is I'm in no rush to get dampers. I have time to do my research. Koni Yellow or Bilstein mono-tube...

My Steeda springs are a bit softer than your SR springs, but I'm hoping that I can slow down the roll of the car with adjustable compression dampers without having to go with super stiff springs.

I know you have the STR.Ts right now. What dampers do you plan to use next??

 

Probably going with koni yellows. Lots of people have good luck with them and they should be able to handle pretty stiff springs. Not sure when I'll get to do that setup. Too many things I need for durability and peace of mind and not nearly enough money to pay for it all!!!

I don't think my SR springs are much stiffer than what you're going to run. But I don't remember their numbers. You'll love the new setup tho!

I think I'm going to keep the Steeda HD mouths at a preset distance from full outside (which steeda recommends until you get it aligned) for street duty, and full negative which I think is -2.5deg for track duty.

Along with the adjustable Koni dampers, that should give me the flexibility to go DD to track warrior in just an hour or two.

 

I went with the JPC Black clutch line on mine and wrapped the area where the factory metal tube is in heat reflective tape as I'm not sure what it was for.




I also replaced my brake cooling ducts as they had some pretty big holes in them haha. I still have to hold them up with some zip ties so they don't rub up against the wheel well shield again.




I also opened up the back of my Boss 302R grill to allow more airflow to the radiator and into the air box.
