I live in St. Bernard (about 20-30 miles from New Orleans) and my house is about 10-15 ft. under water. I'm about to go cancel all my subscription crap, like *** Internet and the such. After a nice 3 hours argument with the wife, I convinced her to let me bring the Stang and leave her car behind. This was just when we thought it'd be about 1ft. of water. Now I have a bruised arm for the amount of times I got hit b/c her car is toast. The '04 F-150 I was trying to sell is gone so I guess Insurance will give me the money for that. If anyone is in the Dallas Area (I'm right outside of Dallas near the Airport) PM me if you know any good spots to pass the time.
What pisses me off the most about all this BS is those bastards looting, shooting at cops, shooting at rescue workers, etc. I wish I was there to hit them with a bat!

i totally agree, if they just packed up and left when they were advised to it'd be all good.
but then we need to remember, not everyone had the money or means to leave....

What stuns me is Biloxi.
It has a special place in my heart because I lived there For a year just after I got married. I moved 3 weeks before my son was born because I wanted him to be born in Virginia..
The place I lived is gone..
My favorite Casino(grand) is gone...
My favorite eatin place- gone..
The bridge where I finally learned to take off with a stick- gone..
This is incredible.
My mind has not even processed that all those mansions in the garden district of NO is gone.
To all of you affected- my heart goes out to you...

WTF just happened at the Superdome?
I just saw an explosion on the news..
These morons down there-
I can see needing food? But are new tennis shoes essential to your survival?
Is shooting up your rescuers going to help you?
Is acting a fool and going on Bill O Reilly to complain you are not living in luxury in your shelter going to help you?
I have changed my mind-
I feel horrible for those who lost their homes..I couldn't comprehend.
Those down there in NO right now? Nope- they just have me good and proper pissed off.
And as for the means? If you don't have the money for a hotel or to drive to Bammy or Arkansas or somewhere else---THEY HAD LOTS OF SHELTERS!!!
There was no reason to trash them up and then go to looting and making things worse.
I hope the National Guard goes down there and starts going insane on them.

The New Orleans riverfront has been hit by a series of massive blasts, and fires are raging in the area.
Details are sketchy, but the blast is believed to have involved a chemical factory. A large cloud of acrid, black smoke is drifting over New Orleans.
The news came as extra troops were sent to quell lawlessness in the city, where thousands are stranded without food or water in Hurricane Katrina's aftermath.

It is nice to see that someone else feels the same way I do
Quote from MSN.com “This is a national disgrace,†New Orleans’ emergency operations chief Terry Ebbert said Thursday. “We can send massive amounts of aid to tsunami victims, but we can’t bail out the city of New Orleans.â€
I also read that people are being raped and beaten. I just don't understand people these days. I know that people can become violent if they have not eaten for days and then see someone with food but come on, why rape or beat someone. Hopefully law and order is returned to the city soon. I still can't get over how long it is taking the president to act on the issue. Latest report was he was going to fly over the area today to get a "first hand look".
Edit: I guess he will realize just how bad it is as his helicopter is being shot at.

Link with info
News from people there
I didn't mean that people have already been shooting at helicopters. I meant as soon as some of the people that have been shooting at police, hijacking buses, etc, might shoot at his helicopter because I am sure a lot of them don't think enough is being done about the situation.
Hey all, been a few days since I have made it on, pretty hectic down here with everything going on. I may have to even work over the weekend. We already have a lot of evacuees here and are expecting more to come.
The sports scores bumper music this morning on a local TV station had the gall to play "New Orleans is Sinking" by the Tragically Hip. They probably thought they could get away with playing a 15 year old obscure rock song, but that was beyond low.
Anyone with affected family and friends out there, my thoughts are with you.

I just got this e-mail from one of our technicians in New Orleans.
Subject: Re: Techs in New Orleans area update
On Thurs the 1st I recieved info that what we call the Green bridge was
gone. St. Bernard was full of virus's such as typhoid, hep A and
several
others. No aid has entered St. Bernard Parish. Noone is reporting.
any
info about this parish. They broadcast video on cleanups in progress
in
kenner to decieve the world into thinking the worst is over and hide
the
fact that the world forgot St. Bernard.
I felt that someone should know what they are doing. I appologize for
sending this to everyone. Its just that they are letting my friends
and
family die and noone knows.

I can't even imagine being one of those people.........They handled this whole thing very very badly. sorry- STILL ARE handling this very badly.
AND What about Biloxi? Are we to assume everyone got out of Mississippi cause they sure aren't talking about them much.
We have a lot of people up from there staying in our areas: They are asking for the following:
* Birmingham American Red Cross. Birmingham Jefferson Convention Complex shelter residents need pre-paid telephone calling cards. Drop off at the BJCC, 1 Civic Center Plaza, Birmingham or mail to headquarters at 950 22nd St. North, Suite 750, Birmingham, AL, 35203.
* Birmingham Board of Education. Incoming students need school uniforms. Make checks payable to Birmingham Board of Education Uniform Fund and deliver to 2015 Park Place N., Birmingham, 35203.
* Shelby County Board of Education. Incoming students need school supplies including composition books, spiral notebooks, pencils, pens, crayons and other basic items. Supplies can be delivered to 410 East College St., Columbiana, AL 35051. Mail checks or gift cards for student clothing to Shelby County Schools Hurricane Fund, P.O. Box 429, Columbiana, AL, 35051.
And we just gained new residents:

I just got a email from Lynell. She has no power, no gas, no phone service but she and her family are OK. She says no power for at least a month. She says to keep them in our prayers.
I am so glad to know shes at least ok.
