HELLO! Donna told me everyone here was worried about me and my family. We are still doing fairly well. Things are very stressful. We are still without water and electricity. The gas situation stinks! Our local tankers were sent to other areas, so that limited our supply, and therefore, we are limited to the amount of gas we can purchase.
We are now out of diesel in our generator, and we can not find a dealer near us.
Hopefully things will begin to get better soon.
Please continue to pray for all of us.... there are those worse off then we are, and that is hard to fathom. But it is sad and horrible what this storm has left in it's path.
They are still finding bodies on the coast of MS. We aren't far from the coast, and the devastation is unreal in my area, yet nothing compared to what others are experiencing.
An elderly lady that is a friend of the family just called in a claim and told me, "Lynell, do you know where we can get ice? We have a few cubes left" I sent my husband to her house to give her and her husband some of ours. Its rough, yall, I tell you.
I have taken pictures but have not been able to get the developed yet. Down my street alone there were 16 trees on the road. My husband cleared the entire street the next day.
Power lines are still everywheres. The roof in my office got folded back, and just soaked my desk, computer, telephone, fax machine, copier and printer. We had to have all the carpet removed in here.
I can only check my emails on my boss' computer --- so if I do not respond soon, that is why.
My email is rere 1313@bellsouth.net
To everyone else that was affected, please know that my heart and prayers go out to you and your family.
To everyone else, please continue to pray for us all.
PRESIDENT BUSH: We need aid! NOW!

Donna, thank you from the bottom of my heart for posting her emails for us.
I am royally pissed off at Bush!!! The more I see of him the more disgusted I get. I am not very politcal but tommorow I am sending a nasty-gram to the White House.
He is a disgrace to humanity, using up all of the nations resources to fight a petty war that stems from nothing but a personal vendetta. He sits behind his desk and pretends to care about his people but he doesn't
If you want proof that evil exist simply look into that man's eyes! He is evil in itslef.
Sis! I will be off of work all day tommorow so please email me so we can talk more. Take care!

It means I am very pleased you and your family came through okay- We were very worried about you.
If there is anything we can do for you or anything you and your community need- do not hesitate to let us know- My email is A joyce at natcomm dot net.
As for Bush- I have lost all respect for him and Fema in this disaster.
Letting people suffer is unforgivable.

I'm not yet ready to blame Bush for this although he could have just picked up a phone and said "Do it". but I sure am infuriated by the lack of a timely response by both state and federal agencies. It was their job in the first place. Dang! Act first and sort out the paperwork later. We are talking about people here and this is the biggest natural disaster this country has ever seen. The earthquake in 1906 in San Francisco pales by comparison and that was in an era where building codes weren't anywhere near as stringent as they are today.
If New Orleans ever recovers I hope they build concrete levees on the edges of the lake. When I saw videos of the water flowing over dirt levees I almost cried at the stupidity of it.
I have a friend from New Orleans who still doesn't know about the status of his family and their home. It makes me sick to think about it.

Someone is accountable.......Most likely that clueless FEMA head who kept going on Bill O Reilly without a clue.
I can't comprehend being without food or water or reliable shelter for days on end-letting people suffer has me sick to my stomach.
We have shelters all over the place here for people- and we enrolled their kids in our schools. Word is most of them will find housing and employment here and settle down.

New Orleans was destined to flood. The levees were never meant to hold up forever. There has been research after research, computer generation after computer generation showing what would happen if and WHEN a major hurricane came through that area.
For BUSH to stand before America and say, 'We had no idea the levees would breach" is sickening. When I was a kid and knew that the levees were not safe... how could he not know?
I spoke to my parents last night. They said the waters are disqusting, and haven't begun to go down yet. There is disease and mayhem in the streets of New Orleans. The City that everyone loved is now no more. It will be YEARS before that city will ever recover. They don't need cement levees, they need New Orleans to be ABOVE sea level. Keeping it as it is is only allowing the threat of this happening remain in the minds of everyone New Orleanian.
As far as blaming BUSH or not... I dont recall seeing his face during the first few days of this storm, maybe I am wrong, afterall, I still don't have power.... but I think he should have showed more compassion to the people that were hit by this devastation. Local authorities made MANDATORY evacutions in that area on Saturday. My family left that day. Some didn't leave for what ever reason. I think that New Orleans should have provided transportation for those without, but before you take that thought into consideration, consider this: there are still people in New Orleans that does not want to leave. They are refusing help from rescuers.
Well, I have to go b/c I am now at work and still have to take a quick bath in the sink here. My husband could not return to work b/c we simply do not have the gas to get there. Times here are rough, and we don't have it nearly as bad as most. Continue to pray for those that are trying to find a light at the end of this dark tunnel. For most, the end is not close yet.
You are so right Lynell. Unfortunately it was not a matter of "if it would happen", it was a definate "when would it happen". Heck, even the Tragically Hip wrote the song "New Orleans is sinking" years ago. I have no idea how the president could say that he had no idea this would happen. This is only 1 of the known disasters that ARE eventually going to happen, such as the "Canary Islands quake" which has been known about for a while now.

As to why people won't leave and some are shooting at or have told rescuers they would be shot if they came any closer, is beyond me.
I know some people won't leave because they have been told that they have to leave their pets behind. I know some people don't understand this but pets are a member of the family, no different that a brother, sister, daughter or son. If someone told you that the only way you would be allowed to get on the bus was to leave a family member behind that could not care for themselves, would you get on the bus? I know I wouldn't.

The thing I think most people are forgetting is nobody did this. Mother nature did. I do think the goverment took to long to act. Heck, after 2 days there were transport trucks there from canada
with food.
Lynell, glad you're ok. My wife and I have been donating to the cause. Hopefully some soap or something will get to you.
As far as this blame game nonsense. Let the dust settle first. I won't argue that there are some issues, but A LOT happened at one over a LARGE area. FEMA did have things in place in the out lying areas, but no one really expected the levees to breach and that jack up a lot of the plans out there.
Also, priority was given to rescues, not food. Which is one reason why food took so long. No offense, but people can live 4-5 days without food. Someone in the flood waters might not have 4-5 minutes. In the first few hours, there were 300 helicopters running rescue operations for what...500,000+ people out there?
People yelling blame Bush ought to hold off just yet. I say look at the bottom up. First the idiots that were given, what...4-5 DAYS to evacuate and didn't. Then local authorities should have done something...then state...THEN federal. Its a mess, I agree. Personally, I say lets spend some effort helping people before we waste effort in blaming.

now I wouldn't go calling everyone idiots for not evactuating. Some could not for various reasons, health, income, etc etc. So for some, evacuating was not an option and some that did try, well, it was too late.
One thing that is not helping matters are people trying to go back into the disaster areas to see what condition their house is in, if it is even there. Nobody should be allowed back into those areas unless they are rescue workers.

Ya, I really don't understand why people would put themselves in harms way, especially when they were told what could happen. However, there is a chance that some of them don't read the paper or watch the news. Then again, if I saw half of the city boarding up their windows I think I would have clued in that hey, either a huge storm is about to hit us or people are tired of buying verticle blinds. Still I read what has happened there, watch the videos and can only hope that most people make it out of their alive.
i really dont understand how people who have not lived in NewOrleans be upset with the people who decided to stay.
They all knew the risks of living there and staying there to weather the storm. Listen to what they almost all say "we lived through Betsy, Camille".
As a kid in junior high school we had a La. History class that taught us how to track hurricanes on the maps, they taught us about the destruction that Betsy and Camille did. Everyone knew it would happen but didnt want to believe it would happen to them. When you are there you know how low you are. When we lived in St. Rose off of River Road we could look up at the levees and see the boats passing----ABOVE US, it is the weirdest feeling.
And to the people who think all New Orleanians are violent and looters etc..I have news for you they arent, my mother worked for a contractor that built houses in the infamous 9th ward etc and I spent alot of time there helping paint etc. and the people there never gave us a hard time or were violent etc..when my brother got sick and had to go to the hospital the people in that neighborhood found out and they all got together and gave us money and food and support--these people had less than us, and they were giving what little they had because they saw us hurting!
Watch and pray for them now! I know I am. I now truely know what it means to miss New Orleans!!

If you have been to New Orleans, you know about its heritage. The homes in the quarter are historic. There are businesses that are famous, people travel from all over the world just to visit them.
If you have never been to New Orleans, you have missed out. It will never be what it was for all these years.
And yes, Kevin, you are right... we grew up right by the levee, and you can watch the big ships pass while still being "on the ground". Its quite weird to me now.. .but growing up, it was normal, and I never thought twice about it.
Thank God my parish pretty much survived the storm. But it will still feel odd not being able to tour the quarters by horse and buggy.

ah your parish, good ole St. Charles Parish!!! home of Destrehan Plantation, Ormond Plantation etc...
they havent said too much about the Plantations. does that mean they faired well?
its amazing to think soo many of the homes and buildings that were there for over 100 years that survived all the other storms did not survive Katrina.

it means she agrees
