Fortunately my power is underground.

Looks like NOLA is on the week side of the storm thank good but from news repors its still real bad. I took the contraflow at 130am on sunday morning. Only took me about 2.5-3 hrs to get here ( after the wifes armada got smashed by a 5' squared crate in the middle of the road) to lafayette...normaly takes 2. Last time with ivan it took me over 12 hrs to go the same distance. Buildings are colapsings, homes are flooded to the cling, both pumps are failing, supperdome has two 6' holes in the roof with all those people inside. Its still very bad back home but I guess its not as bad as it was going to be. MS is getting it now to I hope everyone is doing ok over there!
this is from wwltv.com
Apartment building on Wright Avenue in Terrytown has collapsed with people inside, according to Jefferson Parish Sheriff Harry Lee. Rescue crews have not been able to get to the scene as of 9:30 a.m.
Karen Swensen says there is 3 feet of water downtown near the Hyatt. She reports several office windows coming out whole from buildings.
Two holes ripped in Superdome roof, visible from facility floor, according to Associated Press reports.
.. A LEVEE BREACH OCCURRED ALONG THE INDUSTRIAL CANAL AT TENNESSE STREET. 3 TO 8 FEET OF WATER IS EXPECTED DUE TO THE BREACH...LOCATIONS IN THE WARNING INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO ARABI AND 9TH WARD OF NEW ORLEANS.
St. Bernard Parish spokesman Larry Ingargiola says the parish's two shelters at Chalmette High and St. Bernard High are suffering major damage. He said Chalmette High shelter is losing its roof, and St. Bernard High has plenty of broken windows and glass. He estimates 300-plus refugees at the two sites.
Entergy says 317,000 customers were without power as of 6 a.m. Cleco reported 40,000 without power in St. Tammany Parish.
St. Bernard Parish officials say most of the parish has no power.

Its not doing anything here at the galleria yet April.
I just got off the phone with my girlfriend in Hattiesburg,MS.
Trees are falling in her neighborhood, power is out. Everyone is ok so far in her house. It's blowing pretty hard here in Natchez, but nothing like that.

I can't sit outside, my hair keeps going down my throat and up my nose.
Course, we have no trees out here to break it up.
Waiting to see if my kids are coming home early, every other school closed at noon.
God I hope my house is still there...

April you still have power? thats good!
Homeland Security Chief Terry Ebbert estimates it may take a month to get power back to everyone in New Orleans.
Councilman Oliver Thomas said he had received 120 distress calls from people in the Ninth Ward trapped by the storm. He said crews can not get to these people until hurricane force winds cease, the guess for that time frame is about 2 p.m.
Karen Swensen reports that Charity Hospital lost its windows on the 4th floor and that patients are being huddled in the hallways.
Senator Walter Boasso of St. Bernard Parish says there is 12 feet of water in most of the parish, up to the second floor in many homes.
Reports of 3-4 feet of water in Lakeview.

Of course, I am 4 hours from the coast.. There is nothing but wind and clouds and cool air here. Us in Central Al are fine as frogs hair.
I don't do well without power- so I hope living here with buried utilities will keep me well.

LIMITED IN THE DARK. DO NOT TRY TO CROSS FLOODED ROADWAYS...TURN
AROUND...DON'T DROWN.

TOPPLE NUMEROUS TREES AND POWERLINES...CAUSING POWER OUTAGES.
...FLOOD IMPACTS...
BASED ON THE CURRENT FORECAST TRACK OF HURRICANE KATRINA...3 TO 6
INCHES OF RAINFALL...WITH ISOLATED AMOUNTS OF 6 TO 8 INCHES...ARE
POSSIBLE WEST OF INTERSTATE 65...WITH 2 TO 5 INCHES EXPECTED EAST OF
INTERSTATE 65.
RAINFALL ACROSS MUCH OF THE AREA DURING THE PAST MONTH HAS LED TO
SATURATED GROUND CONDITIONS...AND ANY ADDITIONAL HEAVY RAINFALL WILL
RESULT IN RAPID RUNOFF AND POTENTIAL FLASH FLOODING.
WITH ABOVE NORMAL RIVER FLOW IN MANY LOCATIONS...HEAVY RAINFALL FROM
KATRINA WILL AGGRAVATE RIVER CONDITIONS. RIVER FLOODING IS LIKELY TO
BECOME A SIGNIFICANT PROBLEM BY TUESDAY ACROSS CENTRAL ALABAMA. THIS
FLOODING WILL LAST FOR SEVERAL DAYS. DO NOT WAIT UNTIL THE WATER
BEGINS RISING TO MAKE PREPARATIONS TO PROTECT LIVES AND PROPERTY.
EVACUATIONS FROM LOWLANDS MAY NOT BE POSSIBLE DUE TO DOWNED TREES AND
POWERLINES AND RAPIDLY RISING WATER. PREPARATIONS SHOULD HAVE
ALREADY BEEN BE BROUGHT TO COMPLETION.
...TORNADO THREAT...
AS RAIN BANDS ROTATE NORTHWARD INTO CENTRAL ALABAMA TODAY...THEY
WILL BRING THE THREAT OF TORNADOES TO THE AREA. THE THREAT FOR
TORNADOES WILL BE ENHANCED THIS AFTERNOON...WHEN DAYTIME HEATING WILL
PROVIDE ADDED INSTABILITY AND LIFT TO SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS. THE
