Katrina
Here is my email. I xxx'd out her phone number:
We are fine, I guess. No power, no water, no phone service. We have no gas, lines are up to 5 hours long, and you may still not get gas b/c it runs out. There is no ice, or bottled water being distrubuted. Also, bread is hard to find. ---- its really rough... please pray for us, as they said it will be at least ONE MONTH before we get electricity and water.
My phone service does not work, I can get text messages on my cell phone. xxx-xxx-xxxx
OH, and yes, my family is in LA, they are fine, their houses all did fairly well. They will be without electricity for another week.
Pray for us all. Things here are really getting rough. someone got shot over a bag of ice. Looting is really bad, and now people are stealing generators.

OMG!!! shot over ice?! that is flipping horrible!!!
if you get in contact with here again, let her know that we all are praying for her safe return.
this is horrible. a tragedy has turned people into brutal animals. its a real shame. I hope she gets out ok and soon!

Another Update from Lynell:
I wonder if we could take up a collection and send to her and anyone else that is down there. Any thoughts. I know I would be willing to give. I guess the only problem would be figuring out how to get it to her.
thanks Donna! Yes, the relief efforts have been VERY SLOW! I think we dropped food in other countries faster then they did here in the south.... its unreal. what we do get is rationed out. I went to a Red Cross center 2 days ago, they gave each person in my home 2 bottles of water. Ice is no wheres.... someone was selling bags for $10 each. Gas is not bad though, I stayed in line for 3 hours, and paid $2.48 but was only able to get $20 worth (8 gallons) and when you need gas in your car and generator gas, it dont go far. But I was thankful, b/c the man behind me was the last one to get gas... they were out.
We have no running water, so I am bathing in a POND! lol
Please tell everyone on the Mustang sites that I am fine. Luckily my family is safe, our home is fine, and my car is fine (LOL) I had my car parked behind my house, and decided to move it last minute. Good thing, b/c a huge water container for the horses blew into our Blazer (parked where I had my mustang at at first) So, thank GOD
I am at my office taking claims (I work for an insurance co).
President Bush needs to get off his hiney and help us out. we need supplies to make it, badly. We can't get to our banks, so if you dont have cash, you aint getting much. Some of the small gas station stores opened to sell items, and they take local checks, so that is what we are living on now.
Shane built a nice 'grill' out side and we have been cooking on that. We are almost out of ice. Our generator we had been using is 16 years old, so we were not sure if we could last the next month or so, .... we just bought a diesel generator for $1600. It ran 16 hours on less then 4 gallons

its already really hard to get down there as it is, i dunno how we'd be able to. i mean isnt that why its so hard to get supplies to the people down there? heck, if there was a simple way to leave, wouldnt she be out of there by now?
glad to hear they are coping. wish there was more we could do to help
at least they have a place to stay though, alot of people's homes were totally destroyed! im keeping my fingers crossed!

i dont know who or how! but somebody somewhere messed up bad!!! The people in St. Bernard parish have been forgotten about they forgot about the people in the convention center in NewOrleans.. HOW???? WHY
I think part of what happened was most people took a breath of relief after the storm "missed" New Orleans, they were saying "damage isnt that bad" but then the leveees broke and all heck broke loose.
This storm was like no one other before, I think we are used to being able to go into a storm ravaged city the day after and begin clean up and humanitarian relief. But with all the water and the sheer size of the destruction no one has made it their until 5-6 days later. To think they are still conducting rescue missions on day 6 is unbelievable.
I have been trying to figure out why boats and barges didnt try to make their ways down the mississippi with supplies? Thats how rescue missions and relief missions were done in the 1700s and 1800s!! heck the freaking convention center is on the missippi!
Who is to blame though? the President? FEMA? the Governor? The Mayor?
Remember FEMA has to be asked into an area before they go into an area and help. TOO much bureacarcy and infrasturcure has failed, foriegn countries are shaking their heads and wondering about us now.
SHAMEFUL!! Then we get a rapper going on a national benefit show going on a tirade about how the president doesnt care about black people etc...How does that help???
its a shame but the people at the convention center were forgotten, everyone was soo preoccupied with the Superdome that the other shelters were left...
As far as the looting and violence its terrible, but its only a small segment of that area. I grew up in New Orleans, most of my schooling was done there. It feels as if a part of me is washing away with the city and people there, if that makes sense. My brother was married at St. Louis Catherdal in Jackson Square, my father rode in the Mardi Gras Parade called "ATLAS" that operated in Metaire. We used to goto the Saints games and when the USFL operated they had a team called the "Breakers" that we used to see as well. We took weekend trips to Gulfport and Biloxi, Waveland has an awesome park called "Buccanner State Park" with a wave pool and waterslides etc..
I will tell you the people are awesome down there! very caring and compassionatte, strong and proud!! Its a shame that a few are giving them a bad name!
Sorry this was soo long..

The worst thing about that the guy shot his sister in the head because he wanted the ice and she wouldn't give it to him. Just shows how insane people can get when you are in a live or die situation. However, to think someone would do that to anyone, especially a family member sadens me deeply.

I have been wondering about this:
These people are hurting too- and they seem to be the forgotten victims.

i'm in utter disbeleif....
how could he.... its so... THAT FLIPPING large guy in Austin Powers!
i hope to heck that he burns in Hades!!!!
HELLO! Donna told me everyone here was worried about me and my family. We are still doing fairly well. Things are very stressful. We are still without water and electricity. The gas situation stinks! Our local tankers were sent to other areas, so that limited our supply, and therefore, we are limited to the amount of gas we can purchase.
We are now out of diesel in our generator, and we can not find a dealer near us.
Hopefully things will begin to get better soon.
Please continue to pray for all of us.... there are those worse off then we are, and that is hard to fathom. But it is sad and horrible what this storm has left in it's path.
They are still finding bodies on the coast of MS. We aren't far from the coast, and the devastation is unreal in my area, yet nothing compared to what others are experiencing.
An elderly lady that is a friend of the family just called in a claim and told me, "Lynell, do you know where we can get ice? We have a few cubes left" I sent my husband to her house to give her and her husband some of ours. Its rough, yall, I tell you.
I have taken pictures but have not been able to get the developed yet. Down my street alone there were 16 trees on the road. My husband cleared the entire street the next day.
Power lines are still everywheres. The roof in my office got folded back, and just soaked my desk, computer, telephone, fax machine, copier and printer. We had to have all the carpet removed in here.
I can only check my emails on my boss' computer --- so if I do not respond soon, that is why.
My email is rere 1313@bellsouth.net
To everyone else that was affected, please know that my heart and prayers go out to you and your family.
To everyone else, please continue to pray for us all.

Yes, the animals all made it through just fine, thanks. It was rough on the horses, b/c we did not put them in the barn, for fear the barn would be destroyed during the storm. It broke my heart to watch them in the wind and stinging rain.
but they are fine, Thank God!
