This is the second disaster that I came within inches of being involved in first hand.

The first was 9/11. My husband was on the passanger manifest of the United Airlines flight... On a whim came home a day early. Katrina is the second... My boss was vacationing in New Orleans the entire week previous to Katrina, and was the last flight out on Saturday. Literally got out barely before Katrina did her worst.

Yes, we are donating to Red Cross, money, as well as blood. Looking forward to the different relief funds that will be set up, so we can contribute there as well.

I am glad to see people sounding off from those areas. Lets keep it up, and keep our thoughts on those who have lost family/loved ones to Katrina.

What the heck?????

From BBC.co.uk

The evacuation of stranded hurricane victims from New Orleans' Superdome stadium has been suspended after shots were fired at a rescue helicopter.
A spokesman for the Louisiana ambulance service told the BBC the crowd had grown unruly and he was concerned for the safety of his staff.

He said a national guard had been shot, but he had not been seriously injured.

There are widespread reports of looting in flood-stricken New Orleans. The mayor has ordered a full evacuation.

Yea James-
this kind of behavior is becoming quite widespread down there as people become more desperate.

Is it just me or would those people have not been so desperate if they had left in the first place like they were told to do. Don't get me wrong, my heart goes out to everyone that has been affected by Katrina, however, I am losing patience with the looters.

Heard on the news the other day, a cop said that when he comes upon a looter he feels like shooting them and leaving a tag on them that says "Looter."

I think that cop has the right idea.

Getting like a war zone. Now snipers are shooting at Humvees with medical personal in them and they even truned over a boat with EMS and people they were evacuating from a hospital.

Declare marshall Law, do a food drop like we did in Berlin in the 50's and get things under control. We have the assest to do it, stop%&*#@ around and gfet some results.

this is getting waaay too effed up. all this shooting and fighting

i totally agree, if they just packed up and left when they were advised to it'd be all good.

but then we need to remember, not everyone had the money or means to leave....

I live in St. Bernard (about 20-30 miles from New Orleans) and my house is about 10-15 ft. under water. I'm about to go cancel all my subscription crap, like *** Internet and the such. After a nice 3 hours argument with the wife, I convinced her to let me bring the Stang and leave her car behind. This was just when we thought it'd be about 1ft. of water. Now I have a bruised arm for the amount of times I got hit b/c her car is toast. The '04 F-150 I was trying to sell is gone so I guess Insurance will give me the money for that. If anyone is in the Dallas Area (I'm right outside of Dallas near the Airport) PM me if you know any good spots to pass the time.

What pisses me off the most about all this BS is those bastards looting, shooting at cops, shooting at rescue workers, etc. I wish I was there to hit them with a bat!
