Katrina
Heard on FoxNews that they can't even get to the people who are stranded on their rooftops. Apparently they can't take boats into the area because the will "go 50 yards before hitting concrete." Guess maybe tops of submerged buildings???
Bodies floating in streets. Shooting at a police station.
Looks like most of the remnants have passed through Ohio and moving to the Northeast. Rained here all day. Was flood warnings until 9pm. Haven't heard about any flooding here, not that it could compare to LA, but if it still can cause floods this far north!!

Heard schools may not be open for months in LA,
rescuers are leaving floating bodies where they are to rescue anyone who is stranded. The mayor of NO thinks 100's or even thousands are still stranded on roofs or in attics.
www.drudgereport.com seems to have a fairly constant flow of news

imagine what life is LIKE being stranded in your attic...i hate natural disasters more than anything else, aside from senseless killing, because you just cant prevent it... i mean, sure you can evac, but the damage sill still happen
i feel so bad for the residents. i mean, think of what rebuilding is gonna be like. there really isnt a NO anymore, everything will be new
QUESTION: Wonder how many of our "friends, allies", etc have even called to offer assistance for this which will probably go down in history as the worse natural disaster this country has had.

I lived in Biloxi for a year in 1994-1995 while my hubbys ship was being built...
Here is what's left of the drawbridge I got stuck on when learning to drive stick and was scared to roll back:
[attachmentid=32314]
And we used to eat here every chance we got-the Bombay Bicycle Club:
[attachmentid=32315]
Nothing left of it.
I saw on the news where the casinos- which were basically large barges got pushed off their pilings as well.
Mobile and the islands on the coast are fricked up as well.
New Orleans however is horrible. I wouldn't want to think about being stuck in my attic with no food and no way out.
The looters however- they have video- they outta stick em UNDER the jail when they get out of this mess.
Stick em up on Fox News and CNN WANTED for being a pig during a time of tragedy.

you know what is going to really be terrible for the residents of La, Mississippi, and Alabama. the insurance companies will more than likely pull out of there after the claims are filled etc.
It happened to us in FL after Andrew in 92. all the big carriers are gone. we get insurance through what used to be called the florida joint underwriters. if you didnt have a big company insuring you before andrew you get stuck with that..
and then the insurance companies have the gall to advertise how they were responsive and so helpful last year after the four hurricanes blew through here!

This storm has been a terrible tragedy. I sit at home and hte fire station without power and realize, we dont really have it so bad. If not having power is the only main thing we have to complain about, we are doing ok if compared to places on the gulf coast. I am truely going to miss New Orleans, as it can never be the same.
I was down at the farm Progress show yesterday in Southern IL. When I left to come home, as soon as I got on the interstate I saw a convoy of at least 20+ power company trucks from different utilities heading south.
I can not imagine what the people are going thru down there. N'awlins will definately never be the same. My heart and prayers go out to everyone down there.

I for one was about to order some new parts for the Mustang but just could not, I talked to my son and asked what he would do and we had decided that the parts or frills can wait and gave the money instead to the Red Cross ! I hope that all of us here can in some way kinda do the same . ED
At the 40th Anniversary show in Nashville last year, the Red Cross had a blood drive.
I hope they do one at the MCA Grand National in Ohio this weekend.
If not, I'll donate when I get back.
They love my blood type: (O-)

Martial Law has been declared, I hope they do shoot some looters.
I fear the body count is going to be staggering...we see all the survivors who stayed behind...

Just watched a video. 2 officers in uniform were looting from a Walmart. When asked what they were doing one of them answered "I'm just doing my job". That same officer, a female, was later taped attacking a person on the street just outside of the store that stole something from Walmart. Not to return the item, but to take it for herself. I am sure that video is going to land in the police chiefs lap someday.

I hope the looters get whats coming to them!
