Camaro concept

Being a die-hard Chevy fan, that loves his '05 GT, I am disapointed with the design... :notnice:
They say patience is a virtue... had I waited for this, I would have gone "POSTAL!"
Oh well... time to replace my Wrangler with another Wrangler...

I agree that it's not as nice as the challenger but only due to the front end.... The cammaro started to go down when they started with the pointed nose. They don't look good on people and they aren't any better on cars. I do like the rest of the car though..... With just a few modifications they should have a hit, especially with a HIPO engine. Bring back the 302....

Yeah, some people forget to realize that....
"This thing will kick the mustangs butt... and have an IRS, 6-speed, 400hp etc"
Yeahl... it'll kick a stock 2005 if it has that... BUT... 2009 IS the reskin, and don't tell me FORD isn't going to react if it sees fit.
(by this I mean... if the Camaro has all these goodies but is prices 5k higher...well...)

that is what killed the original camaro/firebird
they were faster than the mustang but cost more and the interiors were like being in a coffin
im a mustang guy ..always liked the mustang shape/interior .. camaros always seemed like something a corvette pooped out
i feel wierd in a car not built by ford=p

After seeing it in person, I really like it. Naturally, there are a couple details I would change (namely the grille and tail lights), but I think it is a clean, mean looking interpretation of the old cars, and there are some beatiful lines on the car (namely the rear haunch and overall profile).
That being said, it is a concept, and I think once it becomes a production car, it won't look nearly as good -- just like the Mustang.
Plus, by time it comes out, there will be new versions of virtually every competitor (Mustang SE, Challenger, Z, G35, Evo, WRX, RX-7/RX-8, etc.), so it might be too little too late.

I don't blame GM or DC for developing the Camero or the Challenger. Both look very nice, but I doubt either one will out sell the Mustang. History will repeat itself, and by 2012, both GM & DC will regret bringing those cars back.
Like the Corvette, the Mustang is an American Icon. People love the Mustang. Its going to be very hard for GM or DC to persuade Mustang lovers & buyers to buy Brand X, no matter how nice that brand is.
There is just too much history with the Mustang, plus Ford has done a wonderful job on both the Mustang GT and now the Shelby.
All Ford has to do now is add some Horse Power and give the Stang an occasional facelift from time to time.

It's only a concept Camaro and 2009 is a long way away I'm sure there will be changes to the exterior and interior by then as the time gets closer but at least its a start .No matter what having the Camaro and Challenger back is a good thing and I'm glad there going to do it B) .

I think the concept looks great. Yes the front needs a little work, but that can easily be done.
What I will applaud GM on is sticking with the Small Block OHV engine. They have proven that you don't need supercharges or overhead cams to get great HP and better fuel economy. I wish Ford would take a close look....and redesign their engine platform, but I'm sure that will never happen.

Get your facts right!
"Even the venerable Chevrolet Corvette has seen sales falter by 15% (all figures are through July, 2005)"

Well, only thing I know is from my own experiences. I've seen a dozen or more corvettes show up at our local Chevy Dealer since the 2006 came out. They always park them out front when they get new inventory. I drive past them every morning on my way to work so it's hard not to notice them coming and going. I have yet to see one last two weeks there. I live in a rural area so it's not like you have huge volumes of city people at the dealership either. So the sales potential for my area has got to be one of the smallest possible. I've seen every style come and go (from Coupes to Verts). In fact I've seen some come in on a Friday night and be sold by Saturday at lunch time (granted they were like ordered cars).
Plus is there anyone out here that wouldn't consider the Z06 for the performance per dollar? I mean Viper, Porsche are all at least 20% higher then that car and it would smoke them both. $60K-70K for a 3000lbs 505 hp car is exotics performance, at a moderately obtainable price point. Granted few will be able to afford it at that price point. However if you are going to rip Chevy for their price on the Z06 guess we better look at our beloved Ford too. I mean we built a car with similar performance numbers for what $150k? I mean the GT is a hot seller if your name is Leno and that's about where that market ends on that one at least the Z06 can reach out to some of the more common joes. heck even at the price of the Z06 you can buy almost 3 of those before you get to the GT price point.

Uhh, so is that color on the Camaro concept unveiled at Detroit Tungsten or Titanium??? Seems a little copy-cat of the Mustang concept enveiled so many moons ago. Could GM be a little less obvious???
I agree with everyone's comments - glad to see some competition but something is just missing in the execution, especially the front. The grille just seems way too high and thin. It's good to be a musclecar fan these days.

after looking at the silver pic, i think im starting to like this better than the challenger!
must....stay...loyal....must....fight...it...GAH
honestly though, i think its a great car.. maybe a Z28 or SS is in store for Arin after college or something. I'd actually love to buy one as is.
its really sleek and mean looking, and plus, it'd make great scenery for the II

The one problem with the Z06 that I see is... its an upgraded version of a car.
It's like a Mustang GT500 to a Mustang.
Superfast etc, but to a LOT of people who don't know anymore than 'its a mustang'
The Ford GT is a purpose built supercar that while maybe be a tad slower than the Z06, you'll never ever get someone mix it up with another car.
I respect the Z06 for what it is, but if you gave me a choice, I'd take the Ford GT everytime... and even the Viper too.
You know what it is from a mile away...unlike the Z06.

I really like the camaro. It is retro done pretty close to right. Sure the front end is a bit funky, but given time I might like it, I don't HATE it right now.
The more credible comp, the more Ford has to keep the mustang cutting edge. All in all, good news for lovers of AMERICAN IRON.
Hustle up Cheby, we need some competition as quickly as possible.
