2005 V6 & GT

For a normal city driver where are you going to get the chance to drive either vehicle at these speeds legally? As for the concept that the V8 will be worth more than the V6 when it comes for trade in, auction or as a vintage car is just a lot of unconfirmed rectoric. Both these models are a new change for Mustang and I am sure they will hold there value for many years to come. If people want to buy the GT my attitude is go for it but for me the V6 is just fine.

exc911ence,
Close, my '89 is a Hatchback but it is Dark Shadow Blue.
I just bought the Aerostar from my brother the first week of February, I guess I'll have to get rid of it.

Hi,
I am new to this site and have been surfing it over the last month or so and find it quite entertaining in general. I am a 2 week old 2005 mustang V6 owner and like most 2005 owners I am really enjoying the crap out of this car. What I am surprised about though is the amount of people on here that are opting for the GT rather then the V6. I hope I don't get reamed out here but I am going to give a list reasons why I oppted for the V6 over the GT and don't understand why so many are dead set on the GT car? Some of my reasoning is fact and some is opinion. For starters:
1. Roughly $5000 or more difference in price (fact)
2. Way more V6's available (fact)
3. More room to deal on the V6 (for the most part fact)
4. Lower insurance rates (fact)
5. Speed limit is 65 MPH in most areas (fact)
6. V6 rims are more retro and work better with the look of the car (opinion)
7. Don't really care for the fog lights (opinon )
8. The V6 is just as nice looking and as fun to drive just not as fast (fact)
9. No 3 month wait to get one in most areas (fact)
10. The more you spend on almost any auto the more you will likely loose ( for the most part fact )
I guess what I am trying to say is the only obvious thing in favor of the GT is its a bit faster yet most seem to be opting for it? I guess if it was maybe $2000 or $2500 more it somewhat makes sense if you have a need for speed. Are we race car drivers? I am not a mustang enthusiest and never owned a mustang before but when I saw the 2005 at the car show close to a year ago I knew I was gonna get one. I even waited 5 months on the 6 to get a better deal. I hope I haven't offended anyone who opted for the GT as I know many are bitter from what they are going through or have been through to get their car and I do feel sorry for the many who have waited months but your time will come. For all those currently driving em enjoy!!!!!! Peace and hail to all the new 2005 mustang owners (GT's and V6's. )

Reasons I bought a GT
I test drove both - GT was a more fun to drive and less common. better handling, better looking -mean looking car (IMHO) ... more options
When I went looking for a car I didnt want a sports car like I had when I was in my 20s, I wanted a muscle car again after 22 years and I finally have one !
I always wanted a Mustang as a kid.. but I never was really impressed with the body styles from the last 25-30 years of mustangs... from the late 70s to 2004. They finally made a mustang that looks like a mustang should and doesnt need the word MUSTANG printed across the rear bumper to id it.
even though I have 300hp I am not abusing it... so I dont agree that everyone would buy it just to race it on the street.
I believe if its kept stock, all papers kept and the car is maintained with TLC its going to be worth bucks in 20-30 years.

My thoughts exactly!!!!!!! Thats why I posted this thread.. I am begining to think that most of the people on here were so dead set on the GT they wouldn't have even tested the V6 to give it a chance. I think some GT owners may have even be surprised how beautifully it drives. To me the V6 is just a better value especially since they look almost the same both inside and out. So its not a rocket but hey is speed is your thing I would have maybe even opted for the cobra for that matter. Some people on here are way to serious. No harm intended ......... Peace

I'm not sure that a GT buyer would try a V6 as it's not what they're looking for in a car. Same goes the other way. GT buyers want big *****, period. The average V6 buyer wouldn't be interested in the GT either... they're different cars in different markets which appeal to different segments. Best part is that there's a Mustang for just about everyone!

At the end of the day, count me as one of those who believes that the V6 offering does a disservice to the brand.
When I see the soccer mom down the street driving her '05 V6, it takes away from my GT experience.
Unfortunately, us GT owners have to live with it.
If Wal-Mart made Mustangs, they would all be V6's.

I think it's great if soccer moms drive V6s. That means lots more sales and lots more years of Mustangs (both V6s and V8s).
Personally, I ordered a V6. All of the reasons have already been posted. It met my needs including the time in which it would be available.
Enjoy yours, I'll enjoy mine, and the soccer moms can do whatever it is they do when they're not driving to soccer...

I thought about a v6 from the start. The last three cars Ive had were great on gas. I prefered the fog lights, as well as the body color rocker panels on the GT.... comes down to theres really not much difference in gas milage between the 2 cars. The last car I had that was "what I wanted" was in 68. Ive spent a lifetime setteling for what was needed rather than what I want. So I decided if Im buying this car Im getting exactly what I want and ordered it. Yes its been frusterating waiting. Finally got a Mar 28th build day. long 8 12 weeks huh.
Its prob overkill, will mainly be a commuter, occasional trips. But this car embodies the spirit of the Mustang like no other in the last 32 years. ( no offense to those who loved those cars).
In 65 the Mustang surprised Ford setting a production record going back to the Model T. Those cars are classics. In 2005 the Mustang (ESP the GT) surprised Ford of the demand for it. I just have a feeling this car will be a classic of the magnitude of the early Mustangs one day. Whether you have a V6 or GT, you have a special car in the history of automobiles.

Well said, I went on three test drives myself (including a GT) and I think the V6 is a real good value and a blast to drive.

Wonder how it would make you feel if you saw a grandmother driving a GT the exact same as yours....
Make your peepee shirvel a little?
hahahah
And don't say 'She's driving a cool car' cause then it just takes away from your argument 'who drives what, defines the car'

I did not have the opportunity to test drive a GT because they can't keep them in stock, so I had to test drive a couple V6's, I was impressed, but I'm getting the GT.
As for value of the V6 Mustang? I don't know if I agree, I think I'd get the Mazda 6 which is about the same price as the Mustang V6 and has more options ie. sunroof, heated seats, bose stereo, better mpg's, 220 horses compared to 210. So value in a V6 Mustang?? I'm not quite sure about that.

Yeah if you don't care about the power than the v6 is for you, still peppy and fun. But nothing compares to the feeling of driving a big v8. plus you get suspension and drivetrain upgrades. if its worth it to you great, if not go with the v6.

You mean little V8. 281 is about as small as it gets. I have the GT, but just wish there was a little more displacement. Oh well, maybe when the Cobra comes out.

Again I guess its what is important to the person. The great thing about the mustang is quality of the ride and great classic mustang look. The mazda though may come with more options for the money has no character. It looks like everything else on the road. My dad bought a mazda 3 for my mom and its a nice car for the money but I wouldn't buy one for myself. The V6 mustang nicely decked out is just a heck of a car in every aspect for under $22000 buy. The GT is also a great value in its price range but there are more options of nice cars in the $28000 range then the $22000 range (well maybe). No matter how you look at it they are both the nicest cars out right now in their class for the money! To me JMO but I just don't think the GT warrants the difference in price for the difference in car. I think the GT with the same options as a V6 should run about $3000 more. If I was a teenager who was drag racing maybe then I would. I wonder how much more it actually costs ford to produce a GT over the V6. I would think much less then $6000 wouldn't you?
#99
Well, you should drive a mazda 6 sometime, smooth, quiet, quick, many more options, same price almost. I'd just rather have all that then the second best Mustang. As for price to produce a GT, you know, 5,000 is not a huge increase, it's still well under $30,000, and for that you get much, much better tires, bigger wheels, better quality leather and nicer designed seats, better suspension, dual exhaust, better horsepower and still 18 mpg's which is great for a V8 engine. If Ford makes a profit on the GT, good, they deserve it! They built a great GT and a very good V6. I hope it helps them in their battle with the imports.

GT's would look much better if they had the black rocker panel like the V6's...the body colored rocker panels on the GT's make the cars look too bloated...V6's are leaner in horsepower, but they are also leaner in appearance which is a definate plus...much truer in appearance to the originals...
pricewise...I paid 500 under dealer invoice...that'salmost all of the holdback for my car...20,600 and supply and demand for GT's with same options is MSRPed at 28,000..if I was "lucky" enough to find mine for MSRP that would be 7400 for the V8 engine upgrade and an additional 480 for sales tax....so that's an 8000 difference....40% from the start...but to each his own...GT owners will be able to make the same argument when the Shelby's and Cobras etc. arrive...Thank God the Mustang is back!
