2005 V6 & GT
#21
1. Roughly $5000 or more difference in price (fact)
2. Way more V6's available (fact)
3. More room to deal on the V6 (for the most part fact)
4. Lower insurance rates (fact)
5. Speed limit is 65 MPH in most areas (fact)
6. V6 rims are more retro and work better with the look of the car (opinion)
7. Don't really care for the fog lights (opinon )
8. The V6 is just as nice looking and as fun to drive just not as fast (fact)
9. No 3 month wait to get one in most areas (fact)
10. The more you spend on almost any auto the more you will likely loose ( for the most part fact )
I've owned/least several Mustangs over the years...most of them v-6 models.
I always liked the v-8 models but couldn't afford one because of higher insurance premiums. That changed in 2003 when I decided to see if I could find lower insurance on my 1999 Mustang (v-6) and when one company offered me more coverage for less money then my current company I asked how much it would cost to insure a 2003 Mustang GT and was offered coverage with the new company about $50 higher then what my current company wanted for my v-6 so I went with the GT.
I bought my 2005 Mustang GT in December and my insurance WENT DOWN with the new car.
As to the looks of both the v-6 and GT models...personally I don't care for the look of the v-6 as I like the fog lights on the GT, but otherwise the car is nice...it's just not for me.
As to having to wait for the car you want...well I could have bought a new Mustang GT on the day I ordered mine, but I decided it would be better to wait six to eight weeks for the car and get a good deal instead of paying $3000 to $5000 over sticker for the car.
I really don't think it matters which model you buy, both cars are great cars.

I won't flame you for talking good about the V6... it's a great car for the money. But, don't talk bad about the GT either. Basically, you get what you pay for. The GT is well worth the $5000 more just for the 100 more HP alone (I have seen people spend $5000 on a supercharger to get 100 more horses), not to mention you get the dual exhaust and the sound that comes with that. There are many other features such as better suspension, ABS, traction control, better tires, and more that you get with the GT that I won't go into. It's a much better driving experience. You can get whatever you want. I just don't exactly see the point in starting a thread to say how the V6 is so much better than the GT. You can't compare the two. It's funny, but you get a lot of V6 owners trying to start threads about how the V6 is just as good or better than the GT, but you will never see a GT owner say that the GT is better than the V6. I guess that is understood though. By starting this thread to say your car is better, you are basically just making yourself look like you need to make excuses for why you settled for the V6.

I never stated the V6 was a better car. I am not stupid. My point was for everyday driving which most of us will be doing why so many people would be willing to spend the difference for mainly speed (not only speed but mainly speed). The looks thing is just opinion anyways. I could have bought the GT like anyone else who bought one but for my driving habits the V6 is more then enough.. Even if I test drove the GT and aggreed the performance was considerably better I still would not pay that kind of money difference. I see people all day long driving high performance cars (vettes, BMW's, Porshe, Lexus etc.... the same as people driving econo boxes. Like someone else stated you get what works for you. I was just a little surprised how many people on this forum were buying GT's as opposed to the V6. Thats all.. No harm done.

Agree with all the positive things that have been said so far. Both great cars.
Here is another factor in favor of the GT. I take a long term view of Mustangs. Been driving them for 30 years and I have a 66 GT in the garage. There is a 5K difference in the cost/value of the two models today. As time passes, that difference will grow. Just like every other generation of Mustang, future values will be determined by what is under the hood. The V6 will always be a nice car, but future value will be found in the GT.
Understand that that future value 10 years for now is not a factor for most folks, but it is something that I consider. They are all wonderful cars, get out there and drive em! B)

What it basically boils down to is this. Mustangs & V8s are just a natural 40 year fit. It's like buying a Jaguar without the V12 or a Harley that doesn't go BAM - BAM- BAM at idle.
I can't disagree that the v6 perfromance is as good as a 1990 GT, but the V6 doesn't have the same WOW factor. As far as the look, I like the foglights and deeper front end as opposed to the V6.
If you have toi have the car now, need a good daily driver and aren't hung up on the V8 tradition, then the V6 makes a lot of sense. If I was buying a Stang for my son or daughter, I would get them a V6 as well.
AS for me, the Mustang is a summer car and not a full time ride. I would not be happy with a 6 pot. I would be slapping myself wishing for the V8. I'll wait for mine.

Whats funny is I had test drove a 2001 V6 mustang back then and was disappointed in the drive. When the 2005 came out I had no intention of considering a GT and was hoping the new V6 was a big improvement which obviously it is. So it was just a matter of the getting the right deal. Had the V6 not floated my boat I probably would not have even gotten a new car. I was originally going to get a V6 deluxe with a few cosmetic options trying to keep it around $20,000 but I got a great deal (my neighbor is secretary to the owner of a ford dealiship in my area) on a Premium 6 with some killer aftermarket interior upgrades. I am Jewish and don't make much money so the numbers were where it was at for me.

I considered the GT for about 3 minutes(after the innovation drive back in October)......Then went running for the v6- not because of money or lack of, or insurance, but because I wanted it. The v6 IS the mustang I HAD to have. I am not ashamed of it, and I adore it. I am 3,000% pleased with my choice.
I didn't order mine, because we had a car wreck and had to replace now than later...but I got exactly what I wanted. Minus the manual, but that wasn't a deal killer.
I don't need 300 HP or foglights(she only ever goes carpooling, to the mall and out to eat, so where would I use it?), and the little things on the v6 I really liked. I love my pony on the trunk, I love my rims, I REALLY love the color... I love it all.
The GT is also a beauty for those who prefer that one. Matter of choice.

I LOVE both, but I feel something about the GT that can't be explained. The sound, the look (reminds me of the '69 style alot, we all see our all-time fave in it ) the gobs of power, and MAN that sound!!!

Hi,
I am new to this site and have been surfing it over the last month or so and find it quite entertaining in general. I am a 2 week old 2005 mustang V6 owner and like most 2005 owners I am really enjoying the crap out of this car. What I am surprised about though is the amount of people on here that are opting for the GT rather then the V6. I hope I don't get reamed out here but I am going to give a list reasons why I oppted for the V6 over the GT and don't understand why so many are dead set on the GT car? Some of my reasoning is fact and some is opinion. For starters:
I guess what I am trying to say is the only obvious thing in favor of the GT is its a bit faster yet most seem to be opting for it? I guess if it was maybe $2000 or $2500 more it somewhat makes sense if you have a need for speed. Are we race car drivers? I am not a mustang enthusiest and never owned a mustang before but when I saw the 2005 at the car show close to a year ago I knew I was gonna get one. I even waited 5 months on the 6 to get a better deal. I hope I haven't offended anyone who opted for the GT as I know many are bitter from what they are going through or have been through to get their car and I do feel sorry for the many who have waited months but your time will come. For all those currently driving em enjoy!!!!!! Peace and hail to all the new 2005 mustang owners (GT's and V6's. )

For me, if I'm spending $20K, I have no problem spending $25K. It's not like I'm opening my wallet to buy it, I'm financing regardless. I have a mental block that says if the car I'm buying has a bigger engine available, then I NEED to have that one! Am I compensating for something? Yeah, so what, my wife complains about my lack of, you know, and that is her right as my wife, you don't have that right, so leave me alone!
Seriously though, if you could buy a nice shirt for $20, or a REALLY nice shirt for $25, most people would pay the extra $5 for the REALLY nice one. Especially if they were going to be wearing it every day for the next 5 years or so.
As they say, apart from your house, your car is your biggest investment. To me, I can't justify cutting down on the power, the look, the options, the handling, the acceleration, etc. to save $5K when I'm going to drive it every day, to and from work, run errands, and drive around with my wife and friends on the weekends, especially when you're talking about getting a 300HP car that is a true American icon for under $30K.
Forget about wondering why people would pay an extra $5K for an extra 100HP, why would people pay almost twice the cost of my entire GT to drive a run of the mill Chevy Suburban that looks like 1 million other ones just like it on the road? For me, easy choice, best $5K I ever spent.

sharkstang,
I see it as pretty much the same reason people buy houses larger than they need, pay $150.00 for a pair of shoes when you can pick up a pair for $20.00, eat at a fine restaurant when McDonalds would do.....etc.
I think it just comes down to a persons priorities in life, we all have different things we enjoy and we are willing to pay for that luxury.
My guess is you have one or more too, I think we all do to some extent.

Yes, in my opinion, the 05 Mustang is the only car I care to own at any price point. This car gets more looks than cars costing more than twice as much. So I have no problem paying the extra $5,000. I plan to have it around a while (if I can keep people from running into me). I am keeping my crappy Plymouth for Winter driving and to keep the miles down on the Stang.
