2005 V6 & GT

That extra $5K buys more than just 100hp. Don't forget:
8.8 diff GT vs 7.5 diff V6
T-3650 trans GT vs T-5 trans V6
Standard Traction Control/ABS GT vs Optional on V6
Standard Sport Suspension on GT vs. Standard soft V6 Suspension
17" wheels GT vs. 16" wheels V6
Performance tires GT vs. All-Season tires V6
Rear sway bar GT vs. None V6
Rocker panel skirts GT vs. Plain rockers V6
Fog lamps GT vs. N/A V6
24 valve V8 GT vs. 12 valve V6 V6
Dual exhaust GT vs. single exhaust V6
Standard Shaker 500 stereo GT vs. base stereo V6
There's a lot of value in the GT model and don't forget which one will be more valuable in 40 years when the 2005s begin crossing the auction block at Barrett-Jackson!

For me, a huge draw of the Mustang is the V8 rumble and great torque. The $20k V6 has much more competition in my book (even from four door vehicles that are surprisingly fun to drive, yet more practical).
However, I don't think the V6 should be looked down upon. It is a great ride, and many, many people are very surprised by how quick it feels.
But, with all that you get (illustrated very well by exc911ence above), the $5k does get you a lot and, for me, invokes more emotion and thrills than the V6.

Drive the V6 and then drive the V8. If you do not know why you want the V8 in the first few miles, you are a prime canadate for a V6 because you obviously do not know much ( or care ) about true price vs performance in autos...
$5000 is a small price to pay for 100hp ( and more lay you back in the seat torque ). I also greatly prefer the higher performance suspension.
I emailed the dealer about a car they had online at 5:00pm on a friday night. I got a reply at 6:00pm and an offer to take a test drive. I went down and bought the car at 8:30pm... No wait at all, it just takes a little time digging on the internet.
P.S. I asked my Insurance agent about the difference in cost and it was less than $100.00 per year. The Insurance on my 2000 F150 Pickup was higher when new than the mustang due to the potential repair cost of the 4 door extended cab. My point is, HP is not the prime reason for insurance costs.

I don't think the Shaker 500 is standard on the GT is it?

Like it or not, cars are a status symbol, and a reflection on the owner. There are many hieracherical structures that can be developed to illustrate this. The guys with twelve cylinger cars are on top, and the four cylinder guys on bottom. Mustangs ownwers fall somewhere in between, with the six cylinder guys slightly lower. Dusenbergs to Yugos, you get the idea.
What's important is that you like what you drive, and disregard the noise.

sharkstang,
I see it as pretty much the same reason people buy houses larger than they need, pay $150.00 for a pair of shoes when you can pick up a pair for $20.00, eat at a fine restaurant when McDonalds would do.....etc.
I think it just comes down to a persons priorities in life, we all have different things we enjoy and we are willing to pay for that luxury.
My guess is you have one or more too, I think we all do to some extent.

Hi,
I am new to this site and have been surfing it over the last month or so and find it quite entertaining in general. I am a 2 week old 2005 mustang V6 owner and like most 2005 owners I am really enjoying the crap out of this car. What I am surprised about though is the amount of people on here that are opting for the GT rather then the V6. I hope I don't get reamed out here but I am going to give a list reasons why I oppted for the V6 over the GT and don't understand why so many are dead set on the GT car? Some of my reasoning is fact and some is opinion. For starters:
1. Roughly $5000 or more difference in price (fact)
2. Way more V6's available (fact)
3. More room to deal on the V6 (for the most part fact)
4. Lower insurance rates (fact)
5. Speed limit is 65 MPH in most areas (fact)
6. V6 rims are more retro and work better with the look of the car (opinion)
7. Don't really care for the fog lights (opinon )
8. The V6 is just as nice looking and as fun to drive just not as fast (fact)
9. No 3 month wait to get one in most areas (fact)
10. The more you spend on almost any auto the more you will likely loose ( for the most part fact )
I guess what I am trying to say is the only obvious thing in favor of the GT is its a bit faster yet most seem to be opting for it? I guess if it was maybe $2000 or $2500 more it somewhat makes sense if you have a need for speed. Are we race car drivers? I am not a mustang enthusiest and never owned a mustang before but when I saw the 2005 at the car show close to a year ago I knew I was gonna get one. I even waited 5 months on the 6 to get a better deal. I hope I haven't offended anyone who opted for the GT as I know many are bitter from what they are going through or have been through to get their car and I do feel sorry for the many who have waited months but your time will come. For all those currently driving em enjoy!!!!!! Peace and hail to all the new 2005 mustang owners (GT's and V6's. )

Enjoy you're v-6, there is nothing wrong with owning one, I am speaking for myself only here, owning a GT is not about the money, it's the love of the car, and the GT represents the mustang on the street and in my memories of a time that has past, and will never return...well who knows maybe a little here and there..
Enjoy you're car !!!

Falchion:
The Canadian GT comes with very few options, and A LOT standard.
Again, another reason why in canada the GT is more attractive.
It comes with Shaker500 standard. The only options on the GT are wheels, leather, tranny, IUP, IAP, alarm, locking wheels, side airbags, Shaker1000 on the GT.
on the v6, in order to get it optioned up to the point of a BASE GT here, you'd have to add the Shaker500 (v6 option), Handling Package (Traction Control, ABS option) so the price starts adding up close to the base gt anyway.
Sharkstang:
One thing you mentioned was Torch red will be going away.
The name might be, but the colour may stay the exact same.
Colorado Red (the replacement) has the same paint code as Torch.
Just 2 different names for the same paint code/colour.
**unless they actually change the Col.Red colour this year to something else.

V6 or V8, I think you can't go wrong either way.
I would make sure to have the IUP though. I believe that will help increase the resale value.
There are a lot of V6's without the IUP that have been sitting on the lots for months. I believe this could be the reason why.

"Whatever blows your skirt up, baby."
Personally, 300hp isn't enough, I can never get enough. :bang: but it will do for now.
And the sound, I think the GT exhaust sound way more than justifies the $5000 difference. JMO.

I've been slowly upgrading myself over the years:
70HP 1980 Chevette
125HP 1988 Beretta
200HP 1996 Camaro
300HP 2005 Mustang
Other reasons:
I like the rims better on the GT over the V6.
I like the fogs.
I like that there are fewer GTs than V6s.
I like that there is no bumper that has a spot for a liscense plate.
And many more that's been covered already.

I've owned 2 previous V6 Mustangs and always wanted to experience a GT but never had the dough. When the 05 came out I was destined to get a GT but still kept the V6 in mind. As soon as I saw that the V6s don't come with the fogs I was determined to get a GT or nothing. I got a really good deal on it and a really good price on my trade and my payments are only $20 more a month with no bump in insurance at all. But like everyone else is saying it's a win win situation. both are really cool Mustangs, fact.

I've seen in other forums where a lot of V6 owners are trying to figure out how to put the foglights on their V6's, I haven't heard of one GT owner inquiring about how to take them off. Have any of you? Case closed.

Gary - Please do get some pics up - especially for the custom aftermarket leather interior and dash treatment you referenced.
Sounds like you found a sweet car there - and certainly not a run-of-the-mill V6. Like you I found that the V6 Premium fit my needs this time around. I want my teens to learn to drive the manual tranny and to have some fun with the car and I didnt want to put 300 hp under their novice feet! Even though I'd rather have bought the GT for my own gratification - this manual V6 is fun to drive too! A sleeper, as some reporters have indicated.
Enjoy your ride and please do post some pics.

Very Simple Answer.

You are correct. The performance was not the deciding factor for me if it was I would have purchased a GT or maybe even a different car altogether. Though I think the Mustang is very classy looking both GT and V6. My friend is looking at new Lotus Elise that is a 4 cylinder engine and believe it or not it does 0-60 in 4.2 seconds and gets about 25 mpg average gas. I know its a totally different kind of car but nevertheless it delivers.....

I hate to say it, but if for some reason my car isn't built I debated to myself whether I'd get a V6 off the lot, the answer, probably not. I'd probably get a V6 Mazda 6 instead of the V6 Mustang, just for these reasons: The Mazda 6 has 220 horsepower in a V6, heated seats, sunroof, and 1 mpg better fuel economy too. My previous Mustang was a 1980 4 cylinder, 90 horsepower, so for me, I wasn't going to settle for second best in a Mustang this time around, it was GT or nothing for me this time, but that's just me.
Look at that GT in the Avitar, is there a car out today that looks more aggressive? Everything about the GT is just so Bold.
