2005 V6 & GT
#1
Hi,
I am new to this site and have been surfing it over the last month or so and find it quite entertaining in general. I am a 2 week old 2005 mustang V6 owner and like most 2005 owners I am really enjoying the crap out of this car. What I am surprised about though is the amount of people on here that are opting for the GT rather then the V6. I hope I don't get reamed out here but I am going to give a list reasons why I oppted for the V6 over the GT and don't understand why so many are dead set on the GT car? Some of my reasoning is fact and some is opinion. For starters:
1. Roughly $5000 or more difference in price (fact)
2. Way more V6's available (fact)
3. More room to deal on the V6 (for the most part fact)
4. Lower insurance rates (fact)
5. Speed limit is 65 MPH in most areas (fact)
6. V6 rims are more retro and work better with the look of the car (opinion)
7. Don't really care for the fog lights (opinon )
8. The V6 is just as nice looking and as fun to drive just not as fast (fact)
9. No 3 month wait to get one in most areas (fact)
10. The more you spend on almost any auto the more you will likely loose ( for the most part fact )
I guess what I am trying to say is the only obvious thing in favor of the GT is its a bit faster yet most seem to be opting for it? I guess if it was maybe $2000 or $2500 more it somewhat makes sense if you have a need for speed. Are we race car drivers? I am not a mustang enthusiest and never owned a mustang before but when I saw the 2005 at the car show close to a year ago I knew I was gonna get one. I even waited 5 months on the 6 to get a better deal. I hope I haven't offended anyone who opted for the GT as I know many are bitter from what they are going through or have been through to get their car and I do feel sorry for the many who have waited months but your time will come. For all those currently driving em enjoy!!!!!! Peace and hail to all the new 2005 mustang owners (GT's and V6's. )

I don't think you can really make a bad choice here. I went GT because that's what I am in to. But I travel a lot up to San Jose and rent '05 V6's all the time now and they are a blast. They sound great, they are quick enough and are extremely fun to drive.
If you like the look and the fun, but don't really need the power - go for the V6. Still a great car.

I opted for the GT simply because I wanted the horsepower, dual exhaust, bigger wheels and tires, FOG LIGHTS, seats ( didnt like the print on the V6 cloth seats)..........everyone has there own reasons, I felt that since I waited until I was 34 to get my first muscle car I didnt want to feel like I had to "settle" for something. so I went for it....got it all. ..........and I couldn't be happier.
Both the V6 and the Gt are awesome.........its a no lose, no lose situation either way..............just a matter of money and choice!

Yeah if you don't care about the power than the v6 is for you, still peppy and fun. But nothing compares to the feeling of driving a big v8. plus you get suspension and drivetrain upgrades. if its worth it to you great, if not go with the v6.

I think you make a lot of good points there.
Most of those is why I'm getting a V6 5 speed manual. I don't like the fog lights either!
But they're all Mustangs! :worship:

If all I did was commute to work in my car, then I too would have gotten a V6 and saved some scratch.
But...
I enjoy the heck out of driving and have plenty of roads available to get my fix, whether it's in the twisty mountain roads, or long slowly winding straight-aways.
Hey, I think Ford did everybody a favor by making the V6 so similar in looks, and 210 HP isn't exactly a bummer either.
You got a good car

Welcome Sharkstang I enjoyed your enlightment on the V6.
Let me say I agree with you totally. I have always wanted a Mustang and in the years past the GT was well worth the extra money over the V6 and the 4cylinder in the years before the V6. The reason I always wanted the GT is because it was way better then the base model(V6) it sounded better plus the power didn't hurt and the looks of the Gt were always superior then the V6. This year Ford got it right the V6 is far better then in years past. I driven my Fathers 05 Gt and I fell in love with it and was planning on getting one and the money difference between the V6 and the GT on a z-plan discount is about $2,500 or so which is not bad. I test drove a V6 manual let me tell you this years V6 is really nice the power is better then a 94-98 Gt the ride is just like my fathers 05 Gt plus Ford tuned the exhaust to sound like the V8. After the test drive I got to thinking the Gt in my opinion is not worth the $2,500 for what I want the car for. I am not a race car driver I just want the Mustang to go cruzing in and have fun with. The V6 has plenty of power for me and the looks of the car are awesome. The deciding factor for me being single is the insurance.
Don't get me wrong I love the GT as well but for those who can't afford a Gt or don't want a Gt this years V6 is a great alternative as opposed to years past
I love all Mustangs and will forever.
It is all in what you want and can afford.

Let me play devils advocate here
1. Roughly $5000 or more difference in price (fact)
1. More than 90 more HP for that 5k (fact)
2. Way more V6's available (fact)
2. If you would like to just pick one up. Moot point
3. More room to deal on the V6 (for the most part fact)
3. Depending on area. I'd say this is your opinion
4. Lower insurance rates (fact)
4. <BUZZER> not fact. most places now ding you for the car, not just the motor. At one point on my V6 02 I was paying 200 less than a v8. 3200 or 3400, I'd rather have the power
5. Speed limit is 65 MPH in most areas (fact)
5. Speed limit and cars ability have nothing in common. I can GET to that limit way quicker. And most people break that law by a small margin ANYWAY. It has nothing to do with limits
6. V6 rims are more retro and work better with the look of the car (opinion)
6. I feel the Bullitts are just as retro as the 'hallibrand' v6 knockoffs, and even more so. MY opinion
7. Don't really care for the fog lights (opinon )
7. I do
8. The V6 is just as nice looking and as fun to drive just not as fast (fact)
8. yes and? Large women are fun to ride, but you wouldn't tell your friends now would you?
9. No 3 month wait to get one in most areas (fact)
9. What waits .. I got mine in 5 weeks!
10. The more you spend on almost any auto the more you will likely loose ( for the most part fact )
10. GTs may or may not hold better value than the 6.
Now...I love BOTH cars...both have their reasons and markets.
The V6 is a nicer alternative who want style, speed, price, gas mileage(surprised you didn't use that one ) etc, within moderation.
The GT is for those that crave more!
Steak is good on its own, but steak and lobster...
The GT isn't for everyone, I mean...not everyone needs a 300hp tire fryer....
most of us on this site do
V6, GT...they are all stangs, and all in my books.

Welcome and congrats on the Mustang.
Why I opted for the GT over the V6.
1. What's a few thousand dollars over a lifetime?
2. Way fewer GT's.
3. Still got a nice discount on the GT.
4. I'm old, the GT will be a "pleasure" vehicle, so insurance won't be too bad.
5. What's a speed limit?
6. Bullit rims are more retro.
7. Love the fogs.
8. The GT is just as nice looking and as fun to drive, just faster.
9. I love long waits, tight shoes, and traffic jams.
10. The more you spend on a car, the less you have to waste on booze and women.
All in fun sharkstang.
Have a blast with your Mustang.

I had a V6 Firebird a few years ago and I felt like I was settling the whole time I owned it.
I absolutely love this car and I wasn't going to settle this time.
The V6 is still a great car though.

My first mustang was a v6, because thats what I could afford. It was a great car, and thats what got me into mustangs. I still hold the v6 in high regards. However, my next one was a v8. After having that, its no comparison, and the reason I bought an 05 GT.

Interesting topic, and I agree, can't go wrong with either.
My reasons for Getting the GT over the V6:
1) I love the foglights, makes it look TOUGH, no foglights, plain, dull.
2) I love the leather in the GT much, much more than the simple leather
in the V6.
3) I love the bigger wheels on the GT.
4) I love the GT emblem on side and on back.
5) I've never had a V8, ever, and I'm 39.
6) I love hearing and feeling all that power.
7) 18 mpg's for an automatic V8 by comparison is pretty good. I was
considering a V6 Liberty and it got only 16 mpg's.
8) Finally, didn't want to hear people say all the time, "Why didn't you get
the V8?" Or "I could've had a V8!"

I won't flame you for talking good about the V6... it's a great car for the money. But, don't talk bad about the GT either. Basically, you get what you pay for. The GT is well worth the $5000 more just for the 100 more HP alone (I have seen people spend $5000 on a supercharger to get 100 more horses), not to mention you get the dual exhaust and the sound that comes with that. There are many other features such as better suspension, ABS, traction control, better tires, and more that you get with the GT that I won't go into. It's a much better driving experience. You can get whatever you want. I just don't exactly see the point in starting a thread to say how the V6 is so much better than the GT. You can't compare the two. It's funny, but you get a lot of V6 owners trying to start threads about how the V6 is just as good or better than the GT, but you will never see a GT owner say that the GT is better than the V6. I guess that is understood though. By starting this thread to say your car is better, you are basically just making yourself look like you need to make excuses for why you settled for the V6.

I hate to say it, but if for some reason my car isn't built I debated to myself whether I'd get a V6 off the lot, the answer, probably not. I'd probably get a V6 Mazda 6 instead of the V6 Mustang, just for these reasons: The Mazda 6 has 220 horsepower in a V6, heated seats, sunroof, and 1 mpg better fuel economy too. My previous Mustang was a 1980 4 cylinder, 90 horsepower, so for me, I wasn't going to settle for second best in a Mustang this time around, it was GT or nothing for me this time, but that's just me.
Look at that GT in the Avitar, is there a car out today that looks more aggressive? Everything about the GT is just so Bold.
