Boss 302 Side Exhaust Install/Discussion

I'd have to look at it. I thought they had two rectangular threaded blocks that drew together to tighten the joint up. I simply took everything apart, then put it back together with the bolts facing downward, instead of up towards the body. The clamp is welded in place IIRC, so you have to flip the fasteners to make it all work. Not hard at all.

I did this with the old exhaust off of the car. It took me a combination of wrenches to get in there and get it out. I actually seem to remember a torx or star tip at the end of the bolt that I think you can use to back it out.

On a side note, while I was under there today I looked up at the connection where the pipes are bolted together right ahead of the cats. There are flange things sticking out that look a hell of a lot (to me) like they could be baffles similar to the restrictor plates used in the side pipes from the boss. They are very thin and I can't figure out why they are there.. could this be some kind of easily removed restriction built into the exhaust?

For those of you DIY installers, any suggestions on installation? My plan is to remove the H-pipe, install the new one, pre-assemble the side leg pipes, then bolt those up and on, then realign the over axle pipes and axle backs (mine need some slight tweaking anyways).

The side pipes come pre assembled. You will need to remove the gas tank splash shields on both sides. Your plan is good. H pipe connection is flexible so it can be frustrating for one person. Have sometimes help you if possible.

Any advice for how to get the stock H pipe uninstalled? The installation of the new one looks like the easy part. Getting the old pipe off is proving damned impossible. I was out there for two or three hours trying to work those front bolts loose today and I didn't even budge them.

It is all obvious. Just mock it up and you will see

Got mine installed today. Had a bit of trouble with a clamp on the old H pipe, but the new one went in smooth. Absolutely love the sound. Off throttle, it has a great burble that I really like. Can't wait to spend some more time with it later at the cruise.
