So I saw a dog wandering around down the road at the beginning of the week and didn't think much about it. Well the next day it started snowing and he was walking around in the road near the house looking lost and sniffing everywhere.

He finally came up to the house and was really friendly and scared. It was supposed to get down around zero and be below freezing for 3 days. I couldn't leave him out in that so I let him come in and gave him an old blanket to lay on. He just laid down and didn't bother anything. Had a collar and a new flea collar, but no name tag. Called around to some of the people nearby and nobody was missing him or knew the dog.

That was 4 days ago, took him to the pound today to be scanned for a microchip, didn't have one. Well, hes still here. Hope I can find out who he belongs to.

I'd keep that dog. It looks like he is wearing a blanket with that black patch of fur on his back.

That's a good thing you done there Lee. He seems in good hands. Good job. Although he looks like he might be on Xanax.

I know, I feel bad for them. Being a dog lover I can imagine how they feel. I've looked around everywhere. Went to local stores and looked for signs for lost dogs, called shelters and dog pounds to see if anyone was looking for him, and searched the internet. Gonna call the local veterinarians to see if they have anyone looking for him.

The guy at the pound told me that if you've been taking care of the dog for 3 days, its yours under the law. I would give it back to the rightful owners, but he isn't fixed and if I end up with him I'd hate to spend that money (and do something irreversible) and then have the owners show up.

Not to mention having the family fall for him and having to give him up. I've been trying to keep my feelings in check in case that happens. Just viewing him as a visitor, not so much luck with the family, they're already planning for him to be ours.

I love dogs, it got down to 2 the first night and -4 the second night we had him. I know he is not used to weather like that, no way I could put him out in good conscience. Especially not knowing how long hes been out in the elements by himself without food. Hes obviously been taken care of to some extent. He didn't stink badly (he did have a bit of a funk on him) and he had a brand new flea collar on. I actually saw 2 different cars stop and try to pick him up out of the road when it was snowing, but he wouldn't have anything to do with them. However, he came right up on my porch later, came right to me and sat down up against my leg wagging his tail. Maybe dogs just have a sense about people that will be good to them. I like to think they do, but I could be wrong, because I don't think I'm a very good person.

Since he was in the house, we gave him a bath last night and he was very good, didn't object at all. He has been really good. Hasn't messed with anything, chewed on anything, lays on the bed we put out for him, follows you around quietly and stays out of your way. Hasn't used the bathroom in the house, sits next to the door when he wants to go out, then runs around the yard sniffing, peeing, and scratching up dirt, goes into the woods and sniffs around, then comes back to the door and sits on the porch til you let him in.

Good on ya. I'm the same way. People's dogs, who are supposedly "unfriendly" always come up to me and lick my hand. Always.
