Hey Lee, I finally took the explorer in last week and they said I needed to replace the upper and lower ball joints. Quoted me $800. Seems a bit high to me, but I've never had that done before. Really don't feel like dropping that into the car right now when I don't even know how much longer I'm gonna have it. Part of me just wants to get something new. Even with new ball joints, I'm not comfortable taking it more than an hour away from home. It's in decent shape but I'm always worried about what's going to go out next.
Took it to my guy and had it done. He said the uppers weren't real bad, but since its got over 200K on it I went ahead and had him do all of them while it was apart.
Yeah, you were right, your quote was a bit high. He put Moog upper and lower ball joints, an alignment, and I let him change the oil and put brake pads on the front since it needed both and he had it apart. $600
Jeez, sounds lucky to me. I finished mine on monday and had it aligned wednesday. So much more solid now. Ended up costing me about $450 to do it myself. All moog here too.

Looks like your bad luck rubbed off on me. Started hearing a thunking in the Limited. Jacked it up and the lower ball joints had some play in them.

since all that, ive had to replace both from calipers, along with flex hoses. Had both sides seize up within a couple of weeks of each other. Had the driver replacement one seize a month after i put it on.
Can i burn it and get the insurance money?
Ooooo i never thought to even check there!

I rebuilt the entire front end of my truck with moog parts. Upper control arms, lower ball joints, sway bar end links, and now just replaced the driver side hub assembly. I think I did it all for around 700 off of rockauto.com. Buddy at the FD helped me since hes had lots of suspension experience. We also put rancho mt7000 shocks all the way around and a 2" hellbent steel leveling kit. made the truck look much better.

True, and I agree...but most the shops around here mark stuff up SO much. Sometimes I'll get it through our guy, if it's not too high, but even he tells us to just buy it on amazon and bring it to him to install lol

I bought my stuff off amazon. Same stuff was nearly twice as much at O'Reillys. Plus I hate dealing with people. Much easier to just buy online and have it show up two days later.
This is coming from someone who works at a locally owned shoe store that focuses largely on customer service. That said, if I didn't work here, I probably would never buy shoes here. I really don't like dealing with people (I don't work with customers). I know, I'm terrible.

Its kind of sad, but there are less than 10 people on earth that I actually enjoy spending time with in person, and only about 5 or so others that I don't mind seeing but only on a limited basis.

His father-in-law was hilarious on the course. If he'd hit a par-3 tee shot short, his invariable comment would be that he was going to the pro shop to turn in his dick and his man card for a ***** and a driver's license with the name Sally on it.

I've come to the realization that I'm just not that good at golf. I'm not really getting any better either. I'm ok with it now. I still enjoy playing bad golf but now there's no pressure. Lol.
