Mustangs Coast to Coast
GT isn't happy. Started her for the first time in almost two months and there's something burning on the passenger side. Smells like burnt rubber. I think the timing chain or something is going out too. There's some rattling coming from the front end. I don't think I'll make it to Charlotte.

NO!!!!
And to add more fun to my car situation, the explorer is starting to act up too. I'm thinking either the alternator or battery is starting to go bad.
Maybe they really aren't friends any more? Maybe they never really were? Real friends don't want to see you compromise yourself or put yourself in harm's way. Just a thought.
Welcome to my world. The Escape has a leak at the main seal, so I tried this oil additive that's supposed to help with leaks. Changed the oil on it today too. I'm sanding my TF Chicanes right now to make me feel better.

What is going on with it? Let me know specific details, maybe I can help you out. I've got a lot of experience with these vehicles.
After church tonight, I noticed the electrical gauge was a lot lower than it usually is. I did have my stereo on with the two amps, plus my headlights/fogs and the fan on. I know it's a heavy load, but I've never had a problem before. I stopped at the store on my way home and when I went back to start it, it didn't want to start right away. It was similar to when you have a dying battery. Maybe it was just an oddball occurrence, but with my luck lately, I'm worried it's something else.

Well, once in a while the remote start doesn't want to work. It acts like it's about to turn over, but never does. Works fine when I end up having to use the key. Not sure if it's related or not but I thought I'd mention it.

Did you ever buy a multi-meter like I suggested a while back? Check it at the battery with the car running and all of that stuff off and you should get somewhere close to 14.4 volts if the alternator is putting out like it should.
No I didn't. I guess I'll have to pick one up.

Get one, they're really cheap nowadays. Even one from Harbor Freight or Walmart will do the job, doesn't have to be a Fluke or some high end one. Plus they're just really handy to have around the house for everything from cars to stuff around inside.

Well, some of that sounds like a weak battery, but that could be caused by a weak output from the alternator, especially running the amps, headlights, heater fan etc. Did you ever buy a multi-meter like I suggested a while back?
