Watching triple D and I'm a little pissed off. I can spot instant (fake) gravy a mile away. They're in a restaurant and he's hand breading CFS and frying it, then covering it with instant gravy. Guy should call him out on that, that ruins the whole thing. All of that instant powdered **** looks just alike, I can tell what it is even before I taste it.

Moral of the story, instant powdered gravy sucks. Its not like its hard to make, using the powdered **** is pure laziness. If you're cooking sausage, bacon, etc., making some real gravy is, well, gravy. Simple and quick.

**** it, I think I'll make sausage, biscuits, eggs, grits and REAL gravy for supper tomorrow night.

Goddamned yankees ( ) gravy is what breakfast is built around. Not brownish turkey/potatoes/etc. gravy, I'm talking about white gravy. Sawmill gravy, its what breakfast in the South is centered on.

Bacon, sausage, etc. grease that is left after frying it, then flour sprinkled in to make a roux, then milk poured in the skillet and stirred until it thickens.

I'm really disappointed that Cracker Barrel serves instant gravy and proclaims themselves to be "country cooking". Bull****. No self respecting Southerner would serve instant powdered gravy and call it "country cooking". Its a ****ing disgrace.

The white gravy is not that popular down here. Biscuits and gravy is not popular either. Don't know why it's popularity stops in south Louisiana. It's served on CFS but that's about it. Everything else here is cooked with a roux. I was probably in high school before I ever even seen biscuits and gravy. That's like chicken and dumplings. Never had them until I was in my 20's and I'm still not impressed with it. My grandmother used to cook down blackberries with dumplings. That was some serious eating right there.

Sawmill gravy? Isn't that what is pressed together to make particle board?

I'm trying to even picture powdered gravy. I've had it made from the juices of a roast, turkey, chicken, etc, but don't ever remember anyone using a powdered mix. Other than that, we use is pre-made out of a jar.

Yeah I never heard of biscuits and gravy as a kid, more talk was about corn meal mush and hominy grits (from my Dad). But here in the PacNW - that is when there used to be loggers - biscuits and gravy and chicken fried steak with gravy were big breakfast sellers.
