I know! Wish I had my small smoker fixed. Thats my project for this weekend. Well that and preparing the bulldozers. Cant decide which minority group or third world country will be wiped off the planet this weekend.

It may come as a shock, but water is basically all I drink the majority of the time. Probably at least 6 bottles a day, more when its hot and I'm outside a lot.

Went only once when it was cold and it was a blast. It doesn't take long to be completely soaked with sweat in bunker gear. But you know that already. Lol

lol yup.

Closest ive ever came to heat exhaustion or whatever from being so hot in turn outs. we were on a gas well fire, well it was where they were drilling it and someone didnt put the rubber spacer between the drill extensions. It sparked about 1200ft down and well you can guess what happened. Pure methane out of the ground coming out of a hole about 8" in diameter, sounded like a jet that could be heard for a mile. It melted the tons of steel formerly known as the drilling rig. me and one other guy were on one side of the fire just keeping the flame back (no amount of water was putting this out) while they attempted to get chems on the hole in order to supress and get a cap on it. Being within 10ft of that steel for about 15min straight and it was prob close to 2000°, i know at one point i felt like i was about to pass out. only time ive had that experience.

Unfortunately we will never see the type of incidents that we see at fire training. Not very often we could fight any fires in the plant with hose teams. We have an awesome ladder truck with a big *** cannon at the end of the boom though. Mostly monitors and foam. Hazmat nightmare.

Fixed.

I wish we had a truck with a CAF system.... With our sometimes limited water supply foam would be a welcome addition.
We are applying for a grant for a 25-28' fire /rescue boat. We have a major water way bordering our entire district and there is not any water support between the lock down river from us all the way up to the one above. If we get it we will have to respond to two coal mines on te water, both lock and dams and also a major port for barge loading. A few of us will have to get coast guard certs for operator and other functions. I've already been placed on that list of ops.
