When I bought the 500 the oil level was about half way in the middle of the hash marks. It calls for 6.5 quarts and I just left it there and it never moved, I thought maybe they didn't get it full at the factory. I didn't want to add any so I could watch and see if it was using any oil.
When I changed it the other day I put exactly 6.5 quarts in it, and once again it only shows in the middle of the hash marks. I've seen posts on other forums where people with '10s said theirs was full to the top mark with 6.5 quarts, and people with '11s said they put a little over 7 quarts to fill it to the top mark.
Now the only thing I can think of is that something with the new motor changed and they're still using the same dipstick and its not showing full.
My mind and past experience tells me to fill it to the top mark, but my better judgement says put 6.5 quarts in it like the manual says and leave it be.
Any thoughts?
