yep. He's trying really hard to find another job and he felt it was the last thing he wanted to do (filing unemployment) but house payments are still due and hopefully insurance can help cover some payments until he gets another job. he's still trying to look for other companies with job openings

The simple way to look at it is that all those years they could have paid your father more if the government, state of Texas, hadn't made the company take a portion of his compensation and set it aside, SUTA. So because he didn't get it then, he gets it now. It's not a hand out per se. It's there for this reason. Nothing wrong with it either. It's not welfare or anything.

Unemployment insurance, is insurance. The company paid into the fund on his behalf for all those years, he is entitled to it if he is unemployed and looking for a job. It's that simple.

In a way, yes.
Let's say unemployment insurance costs for company X are 0.15% of wages. Now the rate is determined by how many unemployment claims a company has against it in a given time. A small company like mine has only had one person file in the past 12 years. Ou rate is very low.
Now company X pays its employees a given amount. For arguments sake lets say they all earn $10 an hour. They provide benefits such as insurance, a small life insurance policy, and a access to a 401k package. Those costs add up to about another $0.95 an hour lets say. Then they have to pay SUTA and FUTA (unemployment taxes or "insurance") on the employees at their given rate. That's $0.15. You've also got FICA (social security and medicare) that comes out in 2 equal parts. It's around 7.5% for each part. The employee sees this come out of their check. That would be $0.75 per hour. But the employer also HAS to pay the employers part which you never see on the check which is another $0.75. So if you add all these up you get.
$10.00 per hour (cost of wages with employee's half of FICA included)
$ 0.95 per hour (company provided insurance, beneftits, 401k)
$ 0.15 per hour (company's FUTA and SUTA premiums, unemployment insurance)
$ 0.75 per hour (company's part of social security/medicare that you never see)
$11.85 per hour (actual cost of worker per hour to company)
Now there are more factors that are taken into effect the company must maintain a general liability policy (insurance) that is calculated using the cost of wages, and then there's all the other expenses in keeping the worker working.
But in reality from the company's viewpoint it cost them $11.85 to pay that employee by the hour. However the employee only saw $9.25 per hour before withholding and 401k contributions. So the person was making $2.60 more that he or she never even saw.
If there were no payroll taxes, unemployment taxes and everyone got paid in cash that employee would have made $11.85 all those years instead of $9.25, because that's what the market wold bare.
So if you take $2.60 an hour x 40 hours a week x 52 weeks a year x 15 years = $81,120
That's on a job that pays $10.00 an hour or $20,800 a year.
If you apply interest to that at a reasonable 5%, accruing monthly you get $120,456.43
That's some serious coin.

Ok I'm never gonna live this down. My battery problem wasn't the battery, it was the positive battery cable. ![Nonono](https://themustangsource.com/forums/images/smilies/nonono.gif)

But my dad got a new cable today for me and installed it, and then manhandled my back bumper a bit so now the exhaust doesn't rattle on it![Woot](https://themustangsource.com/forums/images/smilies/woot.gif)

Very sorry to hear that Edson.
I hope he finds something good soon!!
Nice choice!! Do you plan on amping them at all? And make sure you set them at -6db on the crossover if you want to ever use your ears again. ![Stickpoke](https://themustangsource.com/forums/images/smilies/stickpoke.gif)
