The reason is because the '15 is the 50th.. As for the first production Mustangs are concerned although they were built in calender year 1964, they were also built during the early stages of the "1965" model year which is exactly why those first production Mustangs were titled as "65" models by Ford to begin with, as Ford goes by model year, not calender year..
That said, I prefer my biscuits served on the 5's rather than the 4's...

Not only did I accept your project assignment, but according to my research findings.. The Euro Focus was introduced in the U.S in 2011 and began production in late 2010..

The 2015 Focus is refresh of the current 2011- present model, therefore no platform changes at present..
Model year has everything to do with calender year in the automotive world, otherwise the first production Mustang would had been titled by Ford as a 1964 model and not as a 1965 model when it was introduced on April 17th of 1964 which also btw began the start of the 1965 model year

Great findings but my point about model year (MY) and calendar year (CY) having not much to do with each other is highlighted in your results.
2010 CY, the 2011 (MY) European and the 2012 (MY) North American Focus were introduced and went into production later that year. A 2012 (MY) Focus in 2010 (CY). I am sure if it were a Mustang it would be called a 2011 (MY) by the enthusiasts.
Now, on to the 2015 (MY)...released for sale in 2015 (CY). If the 2016 (MY) is released at a traditional time (Fall of 2015) then the 2015 (MY) will be only a few months long while the 2012 (MY) was way over a year.\
The point? The MY of a vehicle is whatever it is called by the manufacturer and not by public opinion. The car produced in 1964 called the Mustang was a 1965 model. The 2015 is the 50th anniversary model.

With that said, Ford got it right this time, as the 2015 is the official 50th anniversary model.. On the other hand however, the 2005 Mustang should had been the real 40th anniversary model and not the outgoing 2004 SN-95 !

From a legal perspective, a model year only has to have Jan 1 of the year if professes to be in and it cannot have two Jan 1's in its production.. For example, on January 2, 2016, Ford could introduce the 2017 Mustang as long as they continued through Jan 1, 2017 with it. Likewise, you could get almost two years from a model year and run Jan 2 2016-Dec 31 2017 with a 2017 model year.

However we're on the same page now, and that's all that really matters and I couldn't agree more, as I also prefer my biscuits served on the 5's just as it should be rather than the 4's

For example, on January 2, 2016, Ford could introduce the 2017 Mustang as long as they continued through Jan 1, 2017 with it. Likewise, you could get almost two years from a model year and run Jan 2 2016-Dec 31 2017 with a 2017 model year.
As Ford extended production on the outgoing SN-95 platform which delayed production of the 2005 S197 models until July/August of 2004, otherwise the 2005 Mustang would had been the 40th Anniversary model as it technically should had been to begin with..
Although the 2015 was introduced on the 50th Anniversary of the original 1965 Mustang.. It's actual production was delayed until fall of 2014..
Therefore what I don't understand is this.. Why is it that Ford couldn't had at least introduced the 2005 Mustang on the Anniversary date, just as they did for the current 2015 model despite the production delay

Willie ! There was never an official 1964 1/2 Mustang.. The vin number on the first Mustang that was introduced by Ford on April 17th of 1964 was vinned as a 1965 MY during the beginning stages of the 65 model year..

On a similar note, there never was a "Pony Car" class either. The origin of the term "Pony Car" came from Car Life Magazine back in 1964 in an article about the Mustang in which the term was used as a descriptive term, not a class. Over the years many people have mistakenly described cars like the Camaro and other's as a "Pony Car." There is no such thing as a Pony Car class and if there were it would be a class of only one car, that being the Mustang.
