Ford to discontinue V8

That said, if I were to give up a V8 Mustang, I'd rather it be all electric too, and only if they give me a manual transmission and loud, un-muffled motor sound to go with it. The electric motors can sound pretty trick, but it will never sound as good as a V8. The single speed electric cars just don't do it for me, as torquey and fast as they are. I want to be involved in the driving experience, with all limbs (as long as they all work).

Hyperdrive has it right. The Mustang will not survive 10 years from now if Ford doesn't adapt it to new technologies. The younger generations could care less about V8's, generally speaking. My only wish: that the Mustang, if it becomes all electric someday, stays expensive enough to avoid Prius owners from buying them. I'd hate to hate on a Mustang :-)

Heck I wouldn't be in the least bit surprised to see up to 35MPG as it currently is right now with the addition of direct injection

They need an EPA combined FLEET average in the 40ish range by 2025.

I'm with you brotha!
HA, Ha, I've got mine, and I'm sticking with it for the duration! I love my V-8 6.0 Powerstroke too, the sixes pull good, but just don't have the soul of a V-8, even in DIESEL!

No reason Ford couldn't produce a small displacement ecoboost V8. If enough of us ***** and moan Ford will see the light. Remember - in the 80's Ford was ready to release a front wheel drive Stang until the Mustang community put a stop to it. So keep this thread going with the complaints. Ford is reading this stuff.
Two good articles.

Seems like we have heard this in tha past and it did not happen. I'll believe it when it happens.
The sound of a V8 makes the V8. I was in the parking garage of a casino last night after a gig and I heard a V8, nice smooth deep tone. I looked over and it was a Hummer H2. But the sound was muscle and torque.

Ford will always make a v8. Just because they put a twin turbo V6 in both the raptor and GT doesn't mean they are killing off the v8. Look at the GT350 and GT350R. Have you heard those things?! It is a sound like no other. Would Ford consider replacing the GT with a TT v6 rather than a v8? I can see that. They could get 450hp easily out of the ecoboost v6 and call it a day. The v8s might be saved for cars like the GT350 or whatever comes in the future. There will always be a demand for v8 powered cars. Most of the younger generation might not care for v8s and such but there are a lot who grew up on them and I will make sure my children do so as well when I get my 2017 GT350R haha (maybe in my dreams)

Question I had this morining driving my coyote to work:
The coyote is still a new motor. Why would ford spend the time on R&D on a new motor like this if they knew they were going to stop making V8's soon. Couldn't they have just kept improving the 4.6 instead?

4.6 was around since early 90's in the Lincoln.
It wasn't a spring chicken by any means.
5L is so much more advanced.
I don't, and hope, to not see it go away in the near future.

These are all just a bunch of rumors that the sheeple/lemmings are diving off the cliff screaming.
Ford is not discontinuing the V8. It would be death to market share. Plus there not going to leave their SD/HD Chassis trucks with only a 6.7 V8 diesel as the only engine. I know many snow plow companies who only use gas engines as they are simple to maintain and always start in the -20* winters.
The Ford GT has no direct competition and they will sell every unit they make.
The Raptor has no direct competition and is more of a pavement pounder that will haul groceries more than race/baja
The Mustang line has ALOT of direct competition and would have a lot to lose if they did something as drastic as drop a V8 from the lineup. If they dropped the V8, many would laterally move to a Camaro, Challenger, etc... Ford wouldn't want to push customers into the other camp.
You think Chrysler is going to drop the HEMI?....No
You think GM is going to drop the LS/LT engines....No
Plus with oil/gas prices falling, and new elections coming for 2016, standards/laws will change. Get the government out of private business and let consumers drive the decisions.
The EB V6 lineup was years in the works and developed when gas was thought to go to $5-$6/gal. With the fall in prices, there will be a lag and if stays low, we will probably have a 750 HP TTV8 GT500 Hellcat killer in the future.

Sorry...GT500 will never get a V6.
