Apology letters to a new generation.
I think obviously each generation has its detractors. As a young enthusiast growing up in the Fox era, I love the Fox (specifically when done right: specific examples of gems -from LX hatch and notch to GT to Cobra to the Saleens can be seen at car shows that still blow me away; but many of them are ugly turds that are rusting away, banged up, and or just ugly from the word go). But I get how some hate the Fox look. The Mustang II I pretty much hate no matter what is done with it, but I can appreciate the history. I also am cool on the SN95, especially the 94-98 which was too rounded and soft looking to me, coupled with a step back performance wise while the Camaro was upping its ante big time. Those were embarrassing times as a Mustang fan! Ironically I definitely see some SN95 in this new 2015 Mustang, but with sharp edges blended in, its almost like a perfect blend of the rounded elements of the 94-98 SN95 with the edginess of 99-04 SN95!!!!! Amazing!
The only change I made to mine, and you can't see it in the thumbnail is I installed that Cobra grille insert, it always bothered me we had no pony up front, and the cobra grill with the mini pony looks wicked. Too bad I sold my car years ago. Big mistake.
Again ! I must respectfully disagree as D2C is the current Mustang's own RWD platform which took nothing from the mid sized Lincoln LS, which was on Ford's DEW98 platform along with the Ford Thunderbird and Jaguar S-Type.. As the Lincoln LS used a 4 wheel independent double wishbone suspension.. The current Mustang is strictly a 3 link solid rear axle with MacPherson front strut suspension.. The D2C platform did nothing more than take certain components that were carry overs from the DEW98 platform, such as the front frame rails, floor pans, portions of the transmission tunnel and basic fuel tank design.. D2C also took suspension components from Ford's C1 global platform that include the front strut and trailing arm assemblies.. Other than that, those were the only similarities in which DEW98 and D2C shared together in common.. As far as those code letters are concerned ? They weren't put on by me, but were rather put on by Ford lol. The bottom line is this.. The current 05-14 Mustang is the only vehicle that's ever been used on Ford's D2C RWD platform and that's a fact..
I stand corrected . I recall reading at the time that Ford 'leveraged' the LS platform. A) can't believe everything you read and B) devils in the details.
Sounds good to me. I actually think every car design out there came from the mustang. Every manufacture made there cars from the mustang design. Model T and on.

Just goes to show, there's nothing quite like the original pony car..
Here's a quote from Ford that someone on here posted.. " We started the super car wars and we'll also end it "

Well, in the same frame, the Fox Body Mustangs from 1979 - 1993 had no styling features from previous years. Not side scallop, 3 bar taillamps, or hips. But they are still Mustangs.
I agree with most that the front end is the least attractive element of the new Mustang. But the current Mustang 2010-2013 didn't change much from the 2005-2009 in style. And the sales are proving it is time for a change.
I don't think Ford should have bothered with Europe, which is probably the cause of the large front end. The car is actually wider, so it is far from a car europeans would want. It is just too large for them.
Ford needs to rethink the headlamps and lower fogs/directionals in future updates, and then we will have a more cohesive design.

I think the biggest reason the sales are down is simply the Mustang is getting too expensive. a 05 gt based around 25, bet a 15 gt will base closer to 35- and wages havent kept up for most folks... ford is looking to add content/maximize per unit profitability, dont think volume is a big a driver as it once was.
really wish Ford would release a low content version in the 18k base range. I think they could do it. I wouldnt want one, but bet a lot of younger folks would- heck they sold a million 65s, most were 6 cylinders- but young working people could generally afford one.
the thing about volume is, more volume=more suppliers= more potential customers...long as the suppliers are domestic. We need this country working, building things our people want...that worked out real well in 65- with todays accounting gurus, the full circle economy is gone- profit at any price/tomorrow be damned...

I agree that Ford needs to be very careful about the affordability of the Stang, and not just some stripped out bottom-feeder model. The competition is much tighter now than in 2005, what with the Camaro, Challenger and even the Hyundai Genesis Coupe - it ain't the only game in town anymore by a long shot. If a decent GT is too much over $30k, I think it won't be too long before the discounts and rebates will need to be rolled out.
As mentioned, most incomes have stagnated for many years, decades even, and working folks simply won't have the scratch to float a $40k GT.

I make no apologies for my tastes. The car is nice looking and I'm sure it's performance will be amazing....but it's not Mustang looking enough for me. For me the Mustang died in 1974 and was reborn in 2005. 2015, for me, has lost it's way (visually).
It's fine, it is what it is and the new owners will no doubt love their car.
Yes it will run circles around my car but I'll be driving a MUSTANG while they will be driving a car with the name "mustang" on it.

In my view, too many Mustang styling cues have been lost on the 2015. A few minor tweaks and it could be any number of models from any number of makes. It appears to be aimed at a younger and world audience who will buy for performance and handling, not heritage. I'm sure it will sell, just not to me.
^^ That one..........a Topnotch revised version of a Kyle Evans' design, was definitely one of my favourites......second favourite, in fact.
That's not to say I don't love the final production car, because I do. But I might have loved that one more.
Or this one........which was my number 1 fav!
