If the 2014 has to lose some of the "retro", this is a great way to go. Kind of Mustang meets Aston. Can we see a front 3/4, too? Pretty please?

I'm still lovin' this one though

Yeah, I gotta say I still prefer the white one.

I really doubt that Ford will be open to a more of a change than this in the Mustang. In fact, I'm hoping that Ford will make this much of a design change. I want an updated design, but what I don't want is the "throw out Ashley Judd and replace her with Roseanne Barr Bride of Frankenstein" change that GM approved for the Camaro.

They'll be changing it more than that sketch. The 2014 will be a re-design so it will be a bigger change than from the '09-'10 refresh. That doesn't mean the look won't scream mustang like the current car does though

Ford also has stated that the design styling behind the Fiesta, Focus, etc. will not be a part of the Mustang. So they say.

I guess I'm old school and don't mind the bumper. But I'll stay open minded.
Oh no I am not suggesting abandoning the thrust forward look of the nose at all. I do not want to see the front end of the Mustang looking like a variation of the Taurus, new Focus and Fiesta.

However if you look at the body design changes to the 2010 Mustang they are consistent with some of the forms and execution found in the bodysides of the new Taurus, Explorer, Fiesta and new Focus. And what I mean is that the simpler slab forms of just flat surfaces and sharp creases have given away to more detailed 3D sculpting, especially in the upper body side lines. This is the kind of common details I have refered to on historical Fords where a freshening of design details shows up in all Fords while some details are carried over to make a vehicle still recognizable as the model it is. How can I better explain this... The way that 65-66 Mustangs look related to the same year Tbirds while the next year both the 1967 Mustangs and Tbirds changed but adopted some new stying details and forms that made them still look related but different than the years before. Ditto with the 1971-71 Mustangs and Torinios... Related styling DNA despite being different models.

I think the one thing that defines a Mustang nicely is the open mouth grille. I am just suggesting that the stepped look of the bumper shelf go away. I am not suggesting slicking back the nose like it was on 1979-2004 models. I probably should make a sketch so it can be better understood.

Back in the late 1960's up to 1972 Ford made some great looking cars that were not molested with clunky defined bumpers. Then the bumper regs took over placing railroad ties onto everything. However in recent years I have seen quite a few cars make a nose without a perceptible bumper shelf or beam. Some modern cars actually have the functional bumper beam running behind a grille insert. Like I mentioned earlier, it would require a hood with the front edge of it setting back into a flexible fascia. The changes to the 2010 Mustang already suggest that they are working towards such a look, especially with the Shelby GT500 grille nose having the front edge of the hood set back instead of forming the top of the grille opening.

That front end looks aggressive. Mean even. Kind of like BMW's M1 concept. What ever the final product looks like, Ford needs to get rid of the diaper look.

Cool

Brilliant work, Doug. I know it's early in your design process, but I'd like to see some round headlamps behind the rectangular covers.......perhaps a slightly smaller version of the (non-HID) ones we have today.

There's almost a hint of Aston Martin Virage in there, too. No bad thing as I think the 05-09 S197s have more than a hint of the earlier William Towns designed V8s/Vantage, too

not necessarily a future mustang as much as a possibility of an alternate current Mustang maybe? I'd like to say I'm not done with it, but realistically I probably won't get back to this particular hack job... Forgive me for the roughness in some spots, I just ran out of time and have to be getting to bed.

Here is a pic that my friend from the Ford design department sent me. He says that it is the final 2014 design:

No, but seriously, 2014 GT v10 650 hp, 22" wheels 3500 pounds. No visibility, but it will go darn fast.

haha, yeah that is a little off, huh?? So I may end up taking another look at it. I wish I knew my way around the 3DMax program I have and could just create something new altogether... But I can't even create a square box, let alone a vehicle.
