The Mustang II was made 1974-1978.

As long as a few distinctive elements are carried forward (forward canted grill and headlamps, the "C" indentation along the side, tri-bar taillamps) the body could be very different and still look like a Mustang. This may be sacrilage, but I'd like to see the Mustang offered as a hatchback again.

The hood is very small compared with other Muscle cars in this design, but I would imagine that it will have to be if they are really going to shave 10-15% off of the weight. That works out to something like 360 -550 pounds they will have to take off for a possible GVW of about 3000-3300 pounds on a 2014 GT.

TN's rendering is well done but it isn't anything that really appeals to me. I'm wanting to see more Shelby GR-1 influence.

I wasn't really trying to say what I like or not though, just that like it or not, unless Ford can work miracles with fuel milage in the other parts of its offerings to make up for it, the trucks and the Mustang will have to be leaner. The GR-1 is amazing, but its v10 helps bring its overall weight to something like 3900 pounds. It really was not meant to be practical at all. I wonder what a much shorter hood would look like on the GR-1? I think too few average people would want to sacrifice any more passenger or trunk space to give the weight and the room for the engine, if they had to pick, in order to get the Mustang down to 3000-3300 pounds. I am not really the best at picking design elements. I just look for what I think is realistic or practical given what we know of the smaller Mustang to come. As boring as drawing a smaller Mustang might be in comparison with all of the huge hoods and gun slit windows, I would love to see more of the practical designs and the reasons behind each of the design elements.

Thumbs up

Great PS skills there, TN, took me a while to work out what your base car was

The Elite concept is stunning, for sure. Not sure if if you'll be able to make the front-end Mustang-worthy though

Yeah the rendering is great skills but the design is too soft and effeminate to be a Mustang design.

Those are the really defining design elements that make a Mustang identifiable. Like history, every three or so years Ford would introduce new design language across many models that included the Mustang trying out different proportions of the roofline, side window profiles and sheet metal surfacing which look related to other Ford vehicles. Ford kept key original design elements so that it would be recognized as a Mustang. These elements were restored and applied so many years later as interpreted in the 1994 models but with the Taurus influenced body forms and surfaces. We have seen it again as the exterior surfaces have been changed on the 2010+ models to match the forms that relate to cars like the new Taurus.

The next generation Mustang will be dependent on evolutionary newer forms that will help define the next generation of all Ford models to come. However I can expect that some form of a side scoop, open mouth grille and tri-bar taillamps will remain a hallmark, just updated.

Thanks for that

Just needs the wheelbase extended a touch, lose the 24" wheels (20s will do ) and add a defined c-scoop and a bit if a kick to the tail. Give the windows a bit more depth, too. Otherwise, it's a good effort

Looks a bit like an exotic with the low roof-line, DB9, Vanquish or possibly even a futuristic Testarossa from what I see. looks great by the way.

I hope they don't lose the hips for 2014 I really like those.

I like that Doug. Personally I'd want to see it a bit more angled or sharp but I like that

Nice Doug. Anything that, at first glance, screams Mustang is a plus in my book. U pulled it off.

That`s brilliant! Sleek, smooth and sexyah!
I do think though that the stop lights are gonna look a bit more different on the next gen. Very nice rendering!
