This is why NOT to bring back anything resembling a notchback to the current design...

The retractable hardtop is a hard one to pull off... The roofline is impacting the notch idea...

In some instances- it works flawlessly... such as a personal fav the SL63 AMG.
The above 1-off mustang is like you said a def no.

Yeah, I think a new notch Mustang could look good, but the retractable hardtop feature on that one-off ruins it.

Doug, best wishes with your move, bud. Being a military brat and then enlisting myself, I know how much "fun" that can be.
Thanks Rich

The problem here is that that roof line makes the car look fat. It is like a really big Man with a little tiny head.
That roof was not designed for the car.

You are correct, sir. If the car was designed from the start with a folding hardtop in mind, it would look better.

If the roof was longer and the rear edge of the roof's C pillar was even with the rear edge of the rear wheel opening, it would be better proportioned.

Saying there should never be a notchback again based on a single poorly designed aftermarket conversion is going overboard.

Interesting sketches. I like parts of all the angles, but none of them really work overall for me. The profile doesn't have Mustang proportions to it. It look too Aston Martin. The front is kind of a mess and what ever is happening under the headlights and grille looks like an afterthought. The rear works the most for me. Nice and simple, and very 67-68.

The front just is not doing it for me. The back has potential tho.

From the A-pillar back it looks a bit like M roadster but from the A-pillar forward it looks a lot like a Brick.

Looks like the offspring of a Ford GT and a Mustang's one-night stand

345's on all 4 corners?? lol

interesting design, and quality rendering work, but I see nothing here that would translate into a new Mustang.

Looks like one of those mash up cars from the burnout video games or something...

Very cool. This is sort of what I have in mind as far as the direction the next Mustang will go, which I believe will be a complete departure from the current retro-based stying. I know I'm gonna get flamed for this but I'll say it anyway: I expect something more along the lines of perhaps say the current Nissan GTR. Yeah, I know, just my thoughts though. Something sleek, possibly angular and sharp, but would still contain Mustang styling cues such as the tail lights, side indentation, and maybe the rear quarter windows.

Joe I'm confused, Doug's drawing is retro-based styling. If you squint you think you're looking at a '68 fastback. Which is why Doug's looks so good

My thoughts exactly. Whilst it's not a facsimle of the '68 Fastback, I think it's actually more retro than the 2005-2011. And I LOVE it
