There's been a lot of talk about lube lately. Made for some interesting discussions.

Wasn't getting into an here, nor did i ever said Amsoil wasn't good either. I was just stating the facts about the Redline MTL fluid. I'm pretty sure Amsoil is just as good fluid as Redline is. If your happy with your fluid, well fine. See we learn new things everyday.

I have 12k miles on my 2011 GT and I am also getting the "transmission whine" I took it into the dealership and the went ahead and swapped the fluid mainly for the "cold shift" TSB and the Service Manager drove my car and he acknowledged the whine, btu said he wanted to drive another 5.0 manual when they get one on the lot before they go tearing into the transmission.

No, sorry. It was a typo. I was referring to our perfect, butter smooth shifting MT82.

Dan, I'll probably do the MTL swap, did that to my 2006 Jeep Rubicon tranny (Redline MT-90) and it was an improvement! For the Mustang, I think I'll wait for the conclusion of the NHTSA's investigation... Anyway, the 5.0 will be garaged in 1 month.

Hi Grifftech,

I’d like to escalate this for you to the Customer Service Manager in your area. Please private message me your dealer, contact info, mileage and VIN so I can help.

Deysha,

I had sent you the info a couple weeks back, but I am sure your inbox is full and the PM is gone. But I am going to hold off sending it as I spoke to the Service Manager this morning about the issue.

It seems to be getting worse every day and he said that he spoke with the local Ford Field engineer and he said that it is "normal" but Ford IS investigating the issue, so obviously they recognize there is an issue and the engineer mentioned that a gear swap is being discussed. But my Service Manager still wants to wait to drive a 5.0 6MT and see how it sounds compared to mine.

But I ran across a guy at the store last night with a 5.0 6MT with 9k miles on it and we were discussing the issue and he let me drive his car with him and I didn't hear one bit of whine and he got in my car and said "jesus hwo do you put up with that noise!" And now he is worried that his is going to do the saem thing.

Ford really needs to address this soon

I know i mentioned this in my response to Deysha but wanted to put it in as a separate response. I am currently working with the Service Manager at my dealership on the transmission whine and he is still waiting to comapre it to another 5.0 6MT. BUT he said he spoke to the local Ford Engineer and the engineer said they ARE investigating it, so obviously they know somethign is going on, And the engineer mentioned they are discussing a gear swap as a possible fix for it.

I will keep you posted as I get more info on mnie, and hopefully get mine fixed soon.

We seem to be hearing more and more about 6 speed MT gear whine as owners rack up miles on their cars. Hope this is not a trend.

People just need to change out their fluids to better performing ones and get a better shifter assembly. Wouldn't you agree?

It should have come from the factory like this to begin with. I shouldn't have 11k miles on my car and it sounding like a 10 year old car with 100k miles on it. It's absolutely asinine and I don't look forward to driving my car like I used to.

And from what I was told this morning is the Ford engineers are looking into the way the gears are cut and how they rub together or something. Sounds like bad engineering to me and not what type of tran fluid you put it.

Why do they think a rear gear swap will solve a transmission whine? In my car it is very obvious that the whine is transmission generated, not rear end whine.

Yep, I figured once the miles started racking up on the new engines and transmissions that the "gremlins" would start to poke their heads up. I'm not sure why Ford decided that the unproven MT82 was the way to go behind their new 5.0 engine instead of the proven T-56 used in the GT500, but if the transmission isn't going to take than 20-30k miles before starting to show design flaws, their choice to save money on the MT82 will probably end up costing more for repairs and bad press than if they had just chose the T56 to begin with.

The GT500 uses the Tremec TR6060. I agree that Ford should of used a better transmission to start with but I'm sure they decided to go with the ****ty MT82 because it's the first couple years of production and they need to make as much money as possible before they start putting a much better transmission in the cars on the assembly line.

Stupid bean counters.
