Dremel and about 10 min.... ![Smile](https://themustangsource.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
Sadly, I have not had any time as of lately to devote to it. I'm studying for a Cert sadly.. Singleton, abstract, factory, blah blah blah...
Hopefully next week I can get back on the ball.

Hines, I did a PATS reprogram and key programming when I first swapped out the cluster...It worked well....
I was stupid though and just assumed I had to do that. When I did the PMI of the cluster it took car of it all. I don't know why I thought I had to do that.
I realized when I tried to do another PMI on the cluster, I had the boss in and when prompted to install the new cluster I just left the boss cluster in and proceeded just like I was switching.
I would imagine when you do the PMI on the PCM/ECU it will ask you for the vin and all that and automatically do what is required for the PCM PMI in one shot...I bet anyway

I have a feeling that a BRAND NEW cluster will automatically marry to the PCM with the initial PMI ... these guys switching in USED clusters will need to do the RELEARN and KEY PROGRAM.
Glad to hear all that works ... now I just need to bite the bullet and order the 2013 PCM ... $400 + $100 core ...

I found a 2012 Ford IDS Training guide online. Saw that the rubber ends pop off to access some other features. So I popped it off ... is this thing a clone or is it the real deal? its pretty amazing. I need to purchase the D-LINK USB WiFi dongle for it.
Same USB slot for the wireless receiver. Same Recovery Mode Switch. Same Mini-SD card slot.
Top is real VCM II from Ford training manual .. bottom is the clone.

I tapped into the same place as dmhines. Made the most sense to put it there. That way I have access to the black box through the access panel inside the center console cubby. My black box has a usb connection for programming and debugging - which Zero and I are doing tomorrow.

LOL . the VCM II supports wireless connection to laptop so you don't need to use a USB cable. The Clone does not come with the dongle like the real VCM II does .. but its a specific D-LINK dongle that you can buy on eBay for $10.

Ok. I learned a lot today:
My dealer wasn't that stupid. I couldn't get the car to start with the Boss cluster...
here is probably why:
back in 2012 i asked them to swap the cluster to a 2010 GT500 one in km/h...
they told me they couldn't get it to work
I tried my 2012 Boss cluster in km/h today. Same issue.
However, i was able to re-programm my old cluster. So the PATS function works.
Two lessons learned:
Don't do extensive work if you have an IC pump running (the IDS told me my battery is low and i couldn't get to re-programm my old cluster - stole some power from my wife's car)
Don't try to put Canadian Clusters in US cars. That just doesn't work. I assume Ford has different key transponders for CA and MX... or PCM's
Thankfully i got my old cluster back and running. Now, i have a good reason to get the 2013 GT500 cluster (in mph of course)...
that's it for today. I am still wondering why i can't get the Module Programming to work...

I know Jim010 will chime it ... but I thought he had a USA cluster successfully installed in his Canada car .. then when United Radio did his mileage they swapped his USA cluster with a Canadian KPH cluster.

I hope it does work though, that would make this one extra badass device.

Anybody has some ideas on the Module programming selection not available?
I did all necessary steps, even did a re-install (with the cleanup util) and it still doesn't work...
I really would like to get that running for my NAV install..
Thanks,

I'm at a loss why your MOdule Programming isn't working. Do you have another Ford vehicle you can try it with? You didn't install the DVD disc correct? you just installed the CD. (The DVD is for the non-USA calibrations that are not available online. Does your laptop have an internet connection? You need that .. also make sure firewalls are turned off.

Yes, i just installed the CD... i will try that Firewall thing tonight. Yes, my wife has a Ford, i can check with that one, too.
Update: just checked my firewall and it is turned off... yes i do have internet connection. Hmm stunning ...

Indeed. I did put a US cluster into my car. Works just fine. It is still in my car. I have not encountered any issues over the past year. I switched the guage face to metric last summer, but the cluster is the same. That was no issue either as the tach is the same and teh speedo goes up in the same increments.

Interesting. I put the cluster in, programmed PATS, the security light goes off after programming (not flashing like crazy, when i first put it in), but when i turn the key, nothing happens.
Put my old cluster back in, (flashes like crazy of course) program PATS (same procedure) car starts.
I am wondering what needs to be done tough, to get that cluster running?
