Gotcha. Your stock throttle body is good unless you were to supercharge. You might pick up like 3-5hp throughout the range, as is. It's just not worth it. The intake spacers have been known to give a bit more, and are typically less expensive. Do you spend a lot of time on the highway? I have 3.73s in my '03 GT, with only a JLT intake and tune, and I get between 18-20. I know it's a completely different engine, but just to give you a heads up. I believe the EPA ratings for my car were like 16/24 when it was new, so I'm still getting about the same, and I am probably 40/60 city/highway driving. I also rev it up a few times per drive, but on the freeway I never go over 70. The car is just too loud, and it's red - I don't want to get another ticket. Most of the time around town, I shift right at 2k RPM. I also have a T56 from an '03 Cobra, so my gearing is a bit different.
Do you have the 3.31s or 2.73s? Lastly, spend $50 and get the resonators removed. It will make your exhaust deeper and a tiny bit louder.

im the opposite actually, I mainly drive on the city streets.. been getting 19-22 lately(started leaving to work earlier.. while the roads are still decently empty, so smooth commute all the way
). I got the base model v6 with the tech package, so my gearing is stock(I believe that would make it 2.73's?)

Look on the bright side. When California breaks apart maybe it will drift far enough into the Pacific Ocean so you won't have smog anymore . California is one state I will and would never move too! You guys smoke all the dope you want but I'm keeping my Long Tubes lmao

Thanks for the heads up. probably wont do lt's was just wondering what differences they have. but so then does that mean Short tubes are completely legal, or just give less problems legally? technically I don't think it matters since CAI's aren't legal either.. but would the LT's give more problems cause of the noise? in terms of the cops getting you at least, seems like it makes no difference with the LT's or shorties, if you're already running a CAI(unless the fine is bigger with the LT's than only having a CAI). same goes for the smog test. But im no expert, you are(and I mean that, so im sincerely asking cause I don't know lol)

Any of you guys remove the resonators? If so how did it change the sound? I'm thinking about picking up the Ford racing x-pipe and removing the resonators to see how I like it before I install my shorty headers.

There's a guy on Instagram that has the quads on his V6. Sounds very similar to the singles, if a bit more burbly.

They are directly behind the cats. I haven't talked to an exhaust shop yet so I'm not even sure you can remove the resonators. Theres not much metal between the cats and the res. I don't think you could do it yourself unless you know how to cut & weld exhaust. I ordered the Ford Racing x-pipe from a.m. today now that its bavk in stock so I'll let ya know how it comes out after I get it.

LT will net you larger HP results but you will have to buy a new midpipe, O2 extenders (as your O2 sensors will be pushed farther back), and you will need a tune.
You could run LT's in Cali but you will need to keep your stock set up (cats, OEM exhaust manifolds) and just swap them out when you go for smog. *Please note this is illegal* and I do not advise doing anything that will get you in trouble or break the law just to cover my butt.

There is a differnce. One is legal (shorties as long as they are CARB approved) one is not (NO long tubes are legal in Cali). As for the law unless they have a CARB stamp both are illegal and not allowed in the state. As for emissions neither will pass a visual smog inspection (broken record here) without a CARB stamp. I believe the BBK shorties are smog legal in Cali but I have not confirmed that, where I KNOW there are NO long tubes legal due to having to remove the cats.
As for advantages:
Shorties will net you less HP but do not require a new midpipe or O2 extenders, no tune required I believe.

What do you think is the best shorty header out there right now? Only 2 i know of is BBK and MAC.. But ive heard people complain about the design of the bbk being no good. So idk which is better

Honestly man, there's soooo much more I'd spend my money on before headers, especially shorties. They're just not worth the small gains. Headers also need to be tightened every so often, or you get exhaust leaks. For the cost of the headers, and the cost of the install (or hours if you do it yourself) and having to worry about CARB legality, I'd so much rather spend that money on gears and a tuner. Or suspension parts. Or a shifter and bracket. Or speakers. Etc.

Really? I saw big performance gains and the sound is killer with my new GT500 sports. But I also have all the other parts you RATHER "want" and more as well. As for re torquing the bolts, i love picking up a wrench on my beast everyonce and awhile. I installed them. Took .5 day.

What's big gains to you? Did you dyno before and after? I know it's not a direct comparison, but on my old V6, one of my factory manifolds cracked so I went with a set of JBA shorties. There was definitely a small increase (maybe if I did a tune, it would've been more), but the cost of the headers and having to tighten every couple months, just didn't seem worth it to me. Especially in California, where you have to worry about getting pulled over and having an uninformed CHP see the headers, and not care that there's a CARB plate right on the header saying they're legal, and get written up for having illegal exhaust mods.
