Thanks! Now if only AM would ship my xpipe that I ordered 2 weeks ago, I would be a complete happy camper.

Louder in a certain way. You can hear a strange wind noise at 1/2 throttle going through the headers. At WOT it screams with the CAI. I kept the stock exhaust until I was fully decided on the sound I wanted. Idle is noticeably deeper.
The GT500 sports was the choice for me. Quiet and loud on command.
In using a GoPro3 for capture, the mics are horrible.
I had to keep the sound that is coming from the engine. It's just so sexy. It womps. WOMP WOMP WOMP at low RPMs.

I think the shorty headers are def. worth it if you do it right. If you install a cat-back, shorty headers and x-pipe it will make your exhaust a more free flowing system. The better you get air in and out the more performance (hp) you can get out of your stang. Granted like others have said longtubes will get you more hp but shortys will get you almost as much hp and keep you legal.

What do you think is the best shorty header out there right now? Only 2 i know of is BBK and MAC.. But ive heard people complain about the design of the bbk being no good. So idk which is better
I am still working on finding out if they are CARB approved. AM doesnt know and BBK has not answered my emails yet. When I know, dear readers, you will too. As for which ones are the best I honestly dont know. I have not seen real, independent dyno pulls. Some people have been complaining that BBKs are a 50/50 shot of getting a good one or getting a crappy one that has to be sent back either due to bad welds, or whatever. MACs are not out yet (last I read) but will be out soon and will be almost $100 more. I would rather save the $100 and order the BBKs and just send them back for a new one if I get a bad one.

Anyone try pulling locking washers on the header studs to keep them from backing out?

When I got shorties for my 2000, JBA was the only company that had CARB legal headers for my V6. That's why they were $550 too, not $250-300 like every other brand.

A lot of the bad welds was not really bad welds, although I did clean mine up I basically made sure they were as large as the ports on the heads. The first set I got did have a bad weld though, it actually leaked on number 1.
As for lock washers, I ran them on my 73 V4 Cleveland and still had to tighten all the time. I tightened these after start up and after 500 miles. The 500 mile tightening was not very much since I did a heat cycle tightening and I have checked them and they are not loosing up. BTW I am putting 500 miles a week on my car.

Well I just talked to BBK on the phone about their shorties for the 3.7 and they are NOT currently CARB approved; but they did tell me they are working on getting them approved so there might be hope in the future.

Eh, that's what they said about their old V6 headers. BBK has very few CARB approved products, and they don't shell out the money on stuff that they won't sell a ton of, because the cost to get a product CARB approved will just be passed along to the consumer. That's why my JBAs were almost twice the cost of BBKs or MACs.

Well no one else makes shorties right now besides MAC and BBK, both of which state their shorties are not CARB legal so us in Cali are SOL right now. I did check out JBA but alas they do not have a set yet either.

Yeah, I think JBA realized, so few sixer guys go for headers, that it's probably not worth the cost of development. Especially on the newer engines which are so much more involved with regards to tuning.

Which is why I keep saying they're not really worth the cost haha! For the 7-10hp they add, and little bit of deepening of the exhaust tone, I'd rather just get a slightly louder axle back. Or a take-off GT/GT500 cat back (2.75"). Less of a headache and/or crap shoot.

It is so worth the tone, the power gain, and the appearance under the hood.
2.75 catback will cause a loss of power due to loss of back pressure.
There is a guy who did this test and in the end stated, " wish I just added the GT500 mufflers"

Those GT500s sound almost like my performance pack muffles. They look the same too....weird.
I've heard terrible things actually about the BBK headers so has anyone received a really bad pair? Not sure of it's worth dropping 400 if they suck

I believe they are only $300 on AM.com and Syber Express got a set that were not up to par and sent them back for another set which were much better. It is a crap shoot if you will get a good pair or not but it might be worth it if you want the extra tone and 7-10HP.

I'm going for the ceramic not chrome ones so it's 400 unfortunately. But doesn't that make you guys kinda weary to pay that much and gamble on a good pair?

If you went by just what you saw on the internet you probably would not be driving a Mustang. Plus as long as you get them from a reputable company returning a bad set is not a problem. AM took the bad set back and sent out the new set without a problem.
