My 2014 GT has these same dents on the exhaust. The other side is dented on top where it's hard to see.

Haha yep! I believe they're resonators post-crossover to keep annoying frequencies out of the exhaust that cause drone. Amazing how a little crimped section of pipe can alter sound frequencies. I've had some other cars with this setup to reduce drone from the factory.

It looks like one answer stated it was to reduce sound, and one was to allow the exhaust to be easily grabbed for assembly at the factory.

Any other answers? My guess was that Ford did this to start forum threads so that it could be discussed because we all have inquiring minds.

Working in assembly plants my guess is the dent is there for shipping purposes. The pipes are transported in large racks, the dent could keep the pipe square and centered in it's place.

I can't see there being an engineering reason behind it.
