Yep! it can be done on ramps! No need to pay someone to do it! Its a simple mod..........

Cool - thanks. I'll be ordering it soon. I've already had the TSB done, and it's eliminated the clunking, but I have a creak over speed bumps that i believe has to be a control arm bushing. kevinb120 mentioned that it eliminated his "squidgy" sound over speed bumps, so i'm hoping that is the same noise I hear and it gets rid of it. If not, at least I'll have a somewhat firmer suspension, and for only $60.

I have the squish sound when going over speed bumps as well. I believe it is coming from the struts. Bushings shouldn't make that hydraulic of a sound.

Well its normal for a 'piston' like sound, but not a squidgy-squeak sound.

blkstang06: Yep, I'm running all stock suspension parts. I have about 4200 miles on them. I don't drive over speed bumps much, but there's one that I drive over whenever I visit another work site. I can definitely hear the front end going SQUISH while the rear just hops over the bump.

Am I correct in that the convertables and all 08s already have this bar?

TSB 07-18-2 is Ford's answer to the clunking noise from the front suspension. As is was published 8-24-2007 I am thinking that it will take awhile for the dealers to get parts as there is bound to be a rush by owners to get the new strut mounts installed under the TSB.

A couple questions coming from a prospective buyer of a new 08' model.

-Will the updated upper strut mounts be included on my car when it is delivered? Also, since I plan on lowering the car after I buy it, do these new upper strut mounts provide a suitable replacement for some of the aftermarket mounts by steeda, J&M, and MM mentioned in this thread?

-Also, the same question applies to the factory a-arm brace provided by the factory. Would it be smart to upgrade this with something from BMR or steeda?

from what I understand the old part is discontinued. With that I would say yes you should have the updated mounts.
I still have the uper strut noise with the newer mounts on my car being lowered 1.3 in the front. Others that are lowered in this thread have stated they no longer have the noise. I don't know if they are lowered more than one inch.

Can the new Ford part be substituted with Steeda Caster/Camber plates?

Thumbs up Upper Strut Mounts - YES!

I just had the new mounts installed late last week and the difference is amazing. My GT feels totally different over bad roads and is overall more quiet. Almost a luxury feel to the front end now. The dealer made me bring the car in for two days, one to evaluate the clunk, then order the parts, and asecond visit to install the parts. By the way, a 2x2 inch block of styrofoam placed under the carpet (hidden from view), right behind the accelerator pedal will keep your Mustang from being "beat on" at the dealer. You simply cannot floor the gas pedal yet the car is drivable.

Good idea on the styrofoam block.
I think the upper strut mount change has been the most noticable repair done to the s197 yet. It's like a whole new ride. Smoother, quieter, less jarring on tall road bump impacts.
