Do the pumps you use have those vapor recovery "things" on them?

I guess its documented, so they KNOW it is a problem- but it looks like its just someone elses problem- ours...I'd really hoped ford would do the right thing on this...the fuel spilling issue is not even mentioned- I hate to say it, but first time somebody gets wet and on fire the sucessful mustang could become a 'media pinto'... lets hope it never happens, but I think anyone would agree if even a small percentage of these cars puke fuel, its just a matter of time. I personally 100% believe ALL of these cars will do it sooner or later...if youre on vacation, you cant 'know' which stations have mustang capable pumps...

The worst part of this is the current car will likely remain unchanged at least two more model years, another 400,000 cars that will eventually be difficult to fill or puking gas at some points in their lives...

Yes vapor recovery things here in CT. How do states lemon laws fit in. In CT it need to be something which causes a safty issue, I think this would fit in.

We do not have those recovery things here. Its just a PITA to put gas in the car and have gotten used to it.
Mine car was built in October 04, and granted I should go replace it- but I haven't found time to do it.

yes- most do(I think all are supposed to). after first attempt of clikclikclikclik, found pulling back about an inch helped with that(a little- clik.........clik...........clik) so always pull back a bit- but if vapor builds, having pulled back at all is how you get sprayed with gas.

someone above mentioned lemon law...I dont know about you guys, but this car aint no lemon to me...best car Ive ever had, even with its little quirks. I just hope ford dont leave known problem for 07,08 buyers to complain about...theyve got time to remedy those now.

Happend to me at Chevron only let me fill up to 6 dollars and shut off. Turned the hose upside down and nothing. I said forget it and went down to Shell and filled it up and no problems. This is the 1st time this happens to me. on my 06 with 2,200 miles on it.

In the year I have had my GT, this has only happened once. I was out of town about a month ago when I stopped to fill up. I had to use the slowest setting to fill the tank. There was no vapor recovery unit on the nozzle that caused the problem.

Here is a very interesting article. It has a couple of pictures for those less inclined to read.

I know it doesn't solve the problem but does give some insight to a possible accomplice. I myself have not had an issue filling up. I go where ever the lowest price takes me which varies alot.

I was concerned about this as well. I just picked up my 06 gt friday and filled up for the first time yesterday. It filled fine for me except right as the tank got full it overflowed a little before the pump shut off.

Same thing happened to me. Picked my GT up on a Friday and filled it for the first time 3 days later and gasoline running down the side of my new car. Did it the second time as well so I will use continue to use the message center to track gallons used so I won't have to take my GT to the car wash right after filling the tank.

Thanks for the article! I found it very informative, and a good refresher on fluids. It also suggests that gas is backing up in the filler neck of the S197's covering the vacuum tube sensor hole, resulting in pump shut off. If this is the case, replacing the fuel tank won't completely solve the problem. Honestly, I've never turned a gas nozzle over and noticed the hole.

Aside of the fueling inconvenience, a bigger worry is a potential fire involving fueling the new Mustang would ruin its resale value, and further damage Ford's reputation. The situation has been made worse, since Ford has acknowledged the problem, but said they will not take corrective measures. A lawyer would have a field day with this case, and Ford would be at least partially negligent, knowing this design is unsafe.

I still have the problem when filling up gas. It is the flow speed at the gas stations here in Europe.

But at least I found one close to where I live and it works :-)

At other stations it doesn't :-(

Bottom line: The tank solution sucks big time!!!

Not to toot my own horn... but tootin' away...

The entire problem in a nutshell for anyone who needs to know. Use... The Method... and you'll pretty much fill up everytime, with the few exceptions listed in the post. And just as I stated 3.5 years ago, I've not changed anything regarding the fuel fill/tank system, stock as the day she left the factory. If I don't use... The Method... then yep, she'll cut right the heck off, and no more gas will go in.

Hope that helps, good luck y'all.
