It takes forever to fill my GT tank. Tank will not take a large flow. Are others having this problem. It is a real pain. Ford needs to fix this.

Funny, there are at least 2 other threads running on this problem. My girl inhaled the gas with not so much as even a burp. Maybe these filler necks cause certain nozzles to be extra sensative??

Definitely seems to be an evolving problem.

I'm having the same problem. Sometimes it works fine and then other times it takes forever

Try filling an excursion sometime, you can get lunch while your pumping up that puppy

If you have this occur try pulling the nozzel out about an inch or two. Then try. This should correct the problem.

I tried pulling the nozzle back as well as trying different angles and it still kicks the pump off. Some gas pumps are worse than others but I believe this is going to be an issue for most owners. My freinds 05 does the same thing.

Ya. Pull the filler out an inch or 2. Wayyyyy back when, I had a jeep YJ, with the same thing. It would only fill at half the rate, if the filler was put all the way in. Pulling it out an inch, allowed to to be filled at full speed.

I just remembered another trick we can try to cut back on this hassle. I've seen guys with this problem just take an old work glove and stick it in there to hold up the nozzle cover. Just take the glove and put it into the gas opening under where normally the cover would be. This allows more air in so that the pump doesn't trip off.

Worth a try.

are you always using a specific filling station? or like me sometimes, even using the same pump at the same station? maybe it's the pumps where you're buying the gas? try a different station in addition to pulling the nozzle out like the others have suggested. maybe that will make a difference.

First fill, no problem. I was crossing my fingers, that I would not have this problem. Probably gas station specific. I have some problems with my other car, occasionally - - and I avoid those stations

Sold, not a chance, the little woman says so. Besides its a diesel and gets 17-22mpg, not bad for 7700lb and as aerodynamic as a brick. lol

Try filling with the nozzle turned upside down (180 degrees opposite of normal fill). Works like a charm!

I am having the same problem with my GT. I have shown it to the dealership who has been able to duplicate the problem. They have turned it over to Ford engineering to see if they can come up with a solution. I thought it was just me but obviously it is a common problem that needs to be fixed.

Hmmm interesting idea I wonder if the problem is related to having TWO tanks, one on each side of the drive shaft forward of the axle. If you were trying to pump gas faster than it could transfer to the second tank that would cause the problem people are describing.
I have heard people describe the problem happening when the tank is half full, that would fit with the explanation above.

I agree. If you shove the nozel all the way in you may prevent air flow, thus you get back pressure when filling the tank. The air in the tank has nowhere to go since you blocked its way out which slows down the speed the gas flows into your tank. Ah the joys of working at a gas station in my teenage years......

The Corvette has 2 tanks and doesn't have this problem. You'd of think they would have noticed this during testing.

Doubt they will do anything about this. It is a very common problem on a lot of cars, not just the new stang. Read my comment above.
