:bang: Got my new 2005 GT two weeks ago this Friday. Went to fill it up with gas at a Mobil station(been a Mobil guy a long long time). Had a heck of a time to get any gas into it. Went to dealer ship today and they ordered the new tank and will put in in next WED. HOw many of you are having this problem?? How many got a new tank and it solved the problem?? Please advise as no use doing this if new tank does not solve problem. It say the new fuel tank has a revised internal venting system to improve fuel filling. Thanks guys and gals for sharing info with me. Mutta

How did they get a replacement tank for you so fast  The dealer told me it would take 4-5 weeks to get a new tank.

I'm curious if cars produced within the past couple of weeks have been fitted with the "new and improved" tanks. Anyone know what the cutoff date was for the old tank? Much thanks

It took my dealership 4 days to get a new tank and install it. Fixed my problem.
You might want to doa search for "gas tank", as this topic has been covered multiple times in the past.

I asked the dealer, they ordered the tank in a week, and it was on my car. Total time about 1 1/2 weeks.

No public TSB, the customer has to request the new tank, as Ford is not making it a manditory recall item.

Do a search, there is a lot of info on this in the forums.
Good luck!!

Hi Dennis and welcome to the forums. I had the tank replaced due to the "no fill" issue and have not had a problem since. Tank arrived 2 weeks after the issue was identified and they replaced it within a few hours.

Geeze, My car was built 16 Dec and have not had any issues (major that is)... I have noticed that it does not like to take on fuel with the pump handle on full -squeeze.... Have there been cases of not having the problem then suddenly having "the problem"?

I have that problem too. I'm going to wait though to see if other problems arise first. You just have to turn the nozzle upside down, no big deal.

I went on a Tuesday & they ordered me the new tank & new shaker, went back the next (this last friday actually) Friday (the only time I could get there, but it was delivered in less time than that). Took around 4 hours & no problems. Until my Service Engine Soon light came on Sunday & took it back Tueday.

They now have the car until tomorrow & I have a 2005 Focus. They said there was a leak in one of the hoses attached to the new gas tank & was causing it to put out more fumes that the gvt has regulated. And that is why the SES light was on.

Anyway. NO problems filling after the new gas tank. Only problem was the small leak. But that shouldn't (hopefully) happen to you guys.

PS~Welcome to the board Dennis. I hope you get your car fixed soon.

EDIT: Which ever dealers it is that is saying it will take them 4-5 weeks to get a new gas tank in is full of BS. Either that or thery are soo far out of the loop they'll never get back in. My dealer had my 1st in in a week & the 2nd is only takeing like 4 days. So, I would check that one out. JMO.

Just did my first fill up yesterday. Not sure of the build date of the car but the tag says March '05.. it arrived April 5th at the dealership. No problems filling up and the nozzle was on full, fast pump.

Welcome Dennis

Welcome Dennis,
My GT was built week of 2/14/05 and has gas tank issue, but can fill with nozzle turned 45 degree. No big problem cause I fill it myself. may fix it when I have more serious issues! Car is great and is the best out there for its price! Must say Ford did alot of improvements on this one!
Happy Trails!!!

my tank works fine at some stations. But at others, it won't work at all. I guess I need to get it fixed because I'm planning a couple of trips this summer and I would hate to have to keep getting off the highway to find a place where I could actually get some gas into the tank.

On the bright side, I got my cd player replaced.

Thanks for all the info! I did read all the posts in regards to this problem and did try the gas nozzel in many diff positions. :bang: The car has the sticker inside the driverside door frame of 03-05-05. I was told by a service tech that Ford is using up all the old tanks---so my car still had that one on it. We love the car. My 38 year old son has a 93 Cobra(he bought new) with only 8600 miles on and his wife a 91 LX red convertible. I am 68 and have owned a few neat cars over the years(1970 Javelin Mark Donaque)(74 TransAm). Still ride Arctic Cat sleds(F7 and s ZRT 800 drag sled). So enjoy life all. Thanks again for sharing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Mutta
