Floorpans in the Foxbody SSP Mustangs were different then your average Foxbody floorpan. What was the difference and why did they do it?

 

There was extra bracing added because of a cracking problem in the floorpans. To quote from the SSP Mustang Page : "To help aid in the cracking issue that was occurring on SSP Mustangs, a floor pan reinforcement was added This was nothing more than a metal bracket with spot welds... It was also accompanied by a reinforced seat back to address the other issue common in SSP's-broken seat backs."

 

Not excatly what I was looking for, but you are correct with that info. The floorpans used (sheetmetal) came from the convertible Mustangs as that sheetmetal was thicker. This, and the bracing that you are talking about, was done to stiffen up the chassis due to the extreme driving conditions that they were subjected to. So you are up.

 

Ford's original GT-40 won LeMans in 1966, 1967, 1968 and 1969. The cars that won in 1967 was call the Mark IV. (Pictured in my avatar). There was also a street version. What was its model designation?

I will guess and say because they were built for racing.

You are correct! As the Group 29 battery was mounted on the pass side of the trunk, it would have interfered with the handle for raising the fold down. You're up...

OK since noone has answered yet I will provide some hints. I thought for sure that Ralph was going to make this question look easy.

Of the differences, one involved the suspension, and the other two were mostly visual.

The rear control arm pivot points were lowered 1/2-inch on the upper end and 1/4-inch on the lower end for improved suspension geometry. In addition, quad shocks replaced the old-style traction bars

 

Particially correct, the early 84 GTs did not have fog lamps and the quad shocks did indeed replace the original "slapper bars". But there were hood scoops on Mustang GT Turbos, this was needed for hood clearance for the fuel ingection system. Both of these were running changes that were made during the year. Still looking for the last difference, its visual.

 

Did the rear spoiler change from the squared off '82 style to the more rounded style?

 

Yes, early 84 GTs had the 3 piece rear spoiler used on 79 Pace Cars, 80-81 Cobras and 82-83 GTs. After Dec 83, they changed the one piece spoiler used on 84-86 GTs and 87-93 LXs. So I would even begin to know who is up now. LOL! mgreene maybe?

 

From 1963 through 1971 (most of Ford's Total Performance years) the "R" engine code in a Ford serial number always designated a high performance engine option. But, it did not always signify the same engine or even engine family. What were the 3 separate high performance engines that an "R" engine code in the serial number represented from 1963 until 1971?
