Why did you pick the 'Stang over the Camaro, Challenger, Genesis, G37, etc?

Blame it on my pops, he loved to tell my stories about his '70 T-5 Mach on the autobahn. Thats how my love with Mustang got started and as a kid from the 80's when the second age of musclecars began, the LX/GT 5.0's were the cars to have. It started with a 91 LX, then I bought an 02 GT new. Beleive it or not I was seriously wondering about Ford's viability in 2006 so I traded the 02 in on an 07, and in 2009 I was looking for a house to buy and had some money in the bank. Couldn't find a house I liked so I bought a car I've always wanted.

I did cross shop...but not through dealers…I went to auto shows and checked out the following cars:
Camaro
Challenger
Genesis
370Z

Here's my reason (s)

Camaro...I HATE, let me repeat, HATE the interior of the new Camaro. It's like Chevy spent 95% of R&D funds on the exterior and suspension and whatever was left over went into the interior. Way too much hard plastics and funky looking ***** and dials.

Challenger - TOO BIG. Love the body style and it has a decent interior (something I could live with)...but just too big of a "Pony Car" for me. Plus, I would have to get the SRT8 and last time I checked, dealers are not negotiating the MSRP. In some cases, they are asking for more than sticker.

Genesis – I really wanted a V-8…rumor has it that Hyundai will be installing a 5.0 in their Genesis coupe sometime in the next year or so…if that happens, WATCH OUT. That will be one heck of a story to have a Korean automaker beat America at its own game when it comes to “Muscle Cars”. Of course, by the time that happens, maybe Ford will install direct injection into the 5.0 to squeeze more power and keep it's dominance in this field.

370Z – Boy…let me tell you…I almost broke down and got the Z…but once again, I wanted a V-8.

But, in the end, I have my Kona Beauty!! 5.0 of serious muscle and I can’t be happier.

Drove a Chally and came back.

I have a buyer for my '08 CS and the Kona 5.0 that I was going to buy was sold due to various factors. So I went looking.

Camaro. Noooo. Bang my head getting into it and didn't feel right.

Drove a 6 speed '10 Chally RT. Nice car. Looks the part. I didn't like the shifter, too spongy but the skip shift wasn't bad (I don't ever short shift that low anyway) Had to force it. Really soft ride, nice highway cruiser. Had some torque. More room in the back. Too soft of a ride though. Started talking invoice - $500. Told them what the '11 was going to cost Xplan - $750 coupon. The Dodge dealer said they would beat any price on an '11 5.0. Came really close.

Went to another Ford dealer. Saw a base Race Red '11 with 3.73's and nothing else. The '11 looks REALLY Sweet in Race Red. While I'm not a bright red guy, it is a different car in that color. Done deal! No further negotiation.

Camaro - Fat piece of plastic that everyone I know that has one...be it only 2 people....have trouble with. I like the look but have checked them out in my Uncles body shop and wow!!! plastic falling apart, small front impact was major $$ repair and visibility is trash. And it is a GM lol.

Challenger - To high price wise for power. If the SRT was in line with the mustang price it would have been my first choice....all 2 tons of it. No replacement for Displ.....well you know the line. Not a auto x guy so I would of went SRT. I can understand auto x guys/gals thinking "what a tub of lard".

Genesis - Not enough power, thats about it with the Genesis. I like them and thought about getting one till the 2011 Mustang came out. If they put a 400+hp in it though...LOOK OUT. That thing would be the stuff.


Ahhh forgot about the 370Z. Sweet car but my big ars would really be sqeezed in it. Plus I pulled one like it was a toy on the interstate from 50-85 lol. Love the Z cars though.

G37 - to high for what you get and not enough ump. NO way I would think about a G37 with the Genesis out.

Watched and read a lot of comparison videos and articles. Compared interiors, performance, etc. We were mainly looking at the Camaro and the Mustang. The Mustang won out everything, and we liked the interior better. I have a Camaro already, which was why we were considering another. The Challenger is a boat, I've already beaten a RT with the V6 Stang. A Genesis is still a Hyundai, we'd pass, but watched the comparison video with that as well. Husband's already thinking of going to the dealership and ordering a Job 2 '11 V6 with the Performance Package, that's how impressed we are with the new Mustangs ... he's been anti-new car until caving in after a test drive and ordering the one we have now. That way there'll be 2 and we don't have to share

'10 Camaro = Was my #1 choice as a GM fan and I loved the powertrain...Ergonomics and outward visibility are craptastic as we all know but it drove much better than expected and the powertrain was sex...Local dealers were no help at all in trying to deal (or even letting me drive it at first), and I eventually got pissed off and looked elsewhere...

'10/'11 Challenger = not considered, seemed a little too big and bulky for my tastes, and I wanted to go corner carving...If all I ever wanted to do was Friday night cruise-arounds, this is the choice -- Looks-wise, and creeping at 10 mph, it makes the greatest statement...


'10/'11 Genesis = not considered
'10/'11 G37 = not considered

'10 370z = Almost took the plunge, and dealers were looking to move them -- Great handling driver's car and ergo/shifter/clutch feel (once I played around with the Synchro Rev-Match feature, that was ALL I wanted to do for the entire test drive)...Drawbacks were the car was relatively underpowered in lower RPMs, had so-so looks and was kind of smallish -- My feet were kind of big for the pedals, and there was next to no storage space other than my briefcase and gym bag...


Mustang: Test drove a '10 last year just as a promotional whim, and was shocked at how much better it was than the then-new '06 I last test drove...Classic look, awesome exhaust note, excellent ergo and visibility, and the car didn't seem overly wide or large like the Camaro/Challenger...I was also intrigued at the prospect of maybe having FRPP installed under warranty...Once I saw the news of 315 HP being supplanted by 412, the choice was clear, especially since I had X-plan+rebates while the Chevy dealers still had markups on year-old Camaros...
