2010-2014 Mustang Information on The S197 {GenII}

Why did you pick the 'Stang over the Camaro, Challenger, Genesis, G37, etc?

I only buy American cars!

I've only driven Mustangs since 1995 but was tempted by the Camaro since I get GM discount as well as A-Plan. I love the LS motors but the Camaro is too heavy and not nearly as nice inside as the Mustang. Oh, and I hate the rear. I never even considered the Challenger because I'm not a big fan of Chrysler/Dodge

Ive owned 8 Mustangs from 1982 Gt (first car) to 2011 Gt. The story goes in 1987 we were watching some street races and I saw a 1985 Gt spank a IROC Z, a 300zx turbo and a 1986 vette. That point on I was in love with the stang!

I will never again support a company like GM, the "too big to fail" mentality is anti-american if you ask me. The G37 is very cool, and the Genesis would be the only Hyundai I would want to be seen in. I really like the Mustang's looks, it is an american icon, great performance, the only thing I dislike about the Mustang is that it suffers from gigantism in my opinion.

You mean there are other brands besides Ford
There has been a Ford at my house for 32 years, even my Mazda3 said FoMoCo on just about everything.

I test drove an r-spec 2.0t genesis, and the track pack 3.8 both manuals very nice looking nice interior what turned me off about them was the next to no incentives not willing to sell for invoice+holdback and lousy factory financing rates plus the 2.0t is about the same feeling as the 4.0 and I was looking to upgrade so stock for stock the 2011 was a better deal.
I drove a 2009 Camaro I think it was a 2-lt rs I liked the looks the interior was very retro and not that cohesive imo. The ride was ok power pretty good visibility sucked a** the rear was terrible and the side sills are way to high. Again the same thing with the dealer oh its a camaro man we don't sell these for invoice oh ok what about rebates salesman looks at me like I'm from mars rebates? Man I'll sell you this car for full msrp no markup how about that? He was talking to my back as I walked over to the ford dealership next door.
Really and honestly I like that fordmoco did NOT take taxpayer money and yet they have excellent incentives on their cars* I got the $500+$750 brochure rebate+a $200 dealer first purchase incentive and invoice pricing so I got my car for $20,498* great financing rates*I got all those rebates+0%-36 month financing that's called having your cake and eating it to I believe* and really have listened to their customer base over the last few years by offering a more premium interior, sync, and addressing those of us who wanted much better nvh. While keeping things like the sound tube in your gts so you can still hear it when your all up on it. First production v6 mustang with dual exhaust&limited slip axle not to mention they all now share the same transmissions and 8.8 rear ends.
By offering many requested options and addressing consumers concerns all the while trying to make a quality product that has been in continuous production for 45+years even better and appeal to a broader base of people. I have many people tell me all the time that they have never considered a ford mustang until now. So that in itself is a huge thumbs up to fordmoco they are doing all the right moves.
I mean come on just look at the 2011's option list, available packages such as the brembo option for you trackaholic gt guys or the new perf pack for us guys that like to turn a few corners without a nose heavy feeling, the outstanding electronic package, the sexy looking mca and cs packages just wow so many good looking options

Thumbs up

My first two cars were a Nissan and a Honda. I wanted something reliable and that got good mileage. When some jack*ss on a cell phone totalled my Honda while I was sitting at a red light, I got a used BMW. I love the way it handles, but it now has 170,000 miles on it and is becoming a real pain.

I considered getting a 2007 G35, IS350 or BMW 3 series, which currently go for 25,000ish (depreciation!), but after reading about how quickly the G35s eat through tires I ruled that one out. I sat in an IS350 and felt like I was sitting in a fancy go-cart. Way too small for me. I decided to look at some brand new cars in my price range to compare against the BMW 3 series, so I researched the Accord and Altima 6 cylinder coupes. Between those two, I was leaning towards the Altima, since it was more budget friendly and I just liked the way it looks compared to the Accord. They both have good reliability and initial quality records.

I started seeing all the press about the 2011 Mustangs and figured I should do due diligence. I've loved Mustangs since high school, but was always wary of Fords reliability. After more research it seems that Fords' quality is up, and it turns out that not only does it get better highway mileage than the Altima, but is also $400 cheaper per year to insure.

I decided the next step was to test drive the Altima, then go down the street and try the Mustang. The Altima was nice, but with the options I wanted I'd have to go a bit over my budget. I went down the road and test drove the Mustang. Two minutes into the drive I was thinking, "wow, if this is the V6, what's the GT like?" (Everything I've owned so far had 4 cylinders). I completely forgot about getting a used BMW or anything else, and ordered a V6 Premium with 3.31 gears (Sterling grey + Saddle leather). That was June 11th, and I still have no build date. But I still feel good about the decision. Even better after one did 1457 laps at Bristol on one tank of gas!

I was told to buy a particular SE Ford Mustang.
By Steve McQueen.
In several dreams - mainly daytime - that left me mezmerized. Starting 11.13.07 with pics from LA Auto show. Then Ford's Bullitt site where you could rev and hear the unique exhaust note. Even at 3am...
And thanks to the miracles of modern creative finance during the pre-Apocalypse era, I got me one!

Then of course there's those HS years in a buddy's '66 2+2FB 289. White red int. Big impression.

For the record, if I had the dough, I'd have a Chally in the driveway too. Not a Camaro. And I'd rather have Bullitt and a Chally than a Corvette. Two are better than one regardless how great one is. But I'd rather have Bullitt and a pre-owned Lotus Turbo Espirit in superb condition. Preferably the 907/4...

But nothing German, Japan, Korea, China, etc., moves me like Colin Chapman or Steve McQueen...

+1

The only thing I don't like is it's the size of my current 2000 Accord sedan. I wish it was smaller but not sure where they could make it so. Still not as bad as the Challenger which is one of those "15 or 20lbs and she's be freaking HOT" sort of cars.

I have owned lots of Camaros, a Vette, and a 328 BMW. I was looking for something new, and better. While i was getting gas last summer here in Marshall, there was a 2010 Mustang with the M plates also getting gas. I chatted with the Ford guys for a bit. They said that the 5.0 was coming back out. I couldnt see the motor, but when they started it it, i knew what was under the hood. So after not falling in love with the new Camaro, and that BMW was cutting back on stuff to save costs. I ordered the GT. Ronn

In no particular order... Mustang = iconic styling; 5.0L 4V Ti-VCT V8 "Coyote" Engine x 6 speed manual transmission; Ford = no bailout; price & weight < Camaro; MPG ?>? '99 Camry V6 LE (LOL if I can bear to drive it for best MPG); glass roof. And, since my spouse got a '10 Camaro, I wanted something different, and not (strictly in my personal estimation) a king-size mattress on wheels.

I bought the Mustang because the other two domestic brands are owned by the US government.

This was a major influence for me too but when the '05 Mustang came out I really wanted one. But with dealer ADM's, I wasn't even going to entertain it. Not for a Mustang. I was driving a 'vette at the time. I had a '69 Mach 1 a few years before and loved the styling but not the maintenance of a 30+ year old car.

So I pretty much put the Mustang on the back burner. Then I decided I wanted something a little more practical than the 'vette but with the power and found that the CTS-V was a really good deal just a couple of years old. So I sold the 'vette and bought the 'V. The Mustang just didn't have the powertrain options I was used to -- 6 speed, good fuel economy, and reasonable power -- for less than $30k.

Then along comes the 2011 model. Look... a six speed manual, 3.7L 300+ HP motor getting 30 MPG, and a price tag under $30k. PERFECT. And it gave me the chance to order a car with EXACTLY the options I wanted. When I looked at used Mustangs previously I always felt like I was settling.

So in 3 years when this V6 is paid for, I may actually look at a 2011 5.0 as a second car. It will likely be priced in the low to mid 20's and will make a great stablemate for my V6. I just don't think any "regular" Mustang is worth more than $30k. A GT 'vert premium might be. . .

I've owned nothing but Fords because my grandfather retired from Ford in 1989. Sure, the Z plan is nice but it runs in my blood.

last summer i really wanted a new car, my 07 fusion was getting boring (tho i didnt miss the AWD this winter). I cross shopped the 2010 with the 335i and G37. Have always wanted a mustang but now those "better" cars were in my price range.
I really didnt like the G37 i thought quality, ride, styling was all worse than the stang, interior felt cramped, not much to like about that car.
I loved the 335i and was really on the fence between the two. I thought the 335i had a better interior but thier nav really couldnt stack up against the everyday functionality of the sync voice controls. idrive was not as intuitive as the ford touch screen either.
In the end i loved the mustang more, as much as i appreciated the BMW, i didnt feel it was worth the price premium for similar HP (and no V8 sound) so i went with my heart and ordered a 2010. If i had waited a year and was shopping for an 11 it would have been even easier with the 5.0 and brembos

one thing to note tho is that i liked that the mustang came with all season pirellis even with the 19s, on the 335i it would be summer only tires with the 19s and sport package. I guess if i got an 11 brembo car i would have to get winter wheels/tires like i would have to with the BMW. or maybe at least gave the summer onlys a chance on the snow haha.

Quick Reply: Why did you pick the 'Stang over the Camaro, Challenger, Genesis, G37, etc?
