Put my old drag radials on the front of the car test-fitting them, I was surprised when they fit perfectly with no spacers needed.
And the freakin' front-end grip !!!!

Why did I do this?
Autocross this Saturday, and the grip from the 275/35/20 555 G2's wasn't what I needed at last event, so I was looking for more.
I think I just found it!

305/40/18 NT555Rs on the front on OEM SVT 18x9.5 wheels
305/35/20 NT555Rs on the rear on Niche Milan 20x10 wheels

Nice Dan!!
I have to change the oil in mine as well. I'll bring it to my friend's shop for some Motorcraft Synthetic love.

They're Nittos, they run pretty narrow as is. I would say looking at them that they are probably something like a 285 for regular tire sizes.

Yeah the 555R certainly seems to run narrow.
The 275/35/20 555 G2's are only a bit narrower:

And they seem to be about the same width as the 285 Goodyear Eagle F1's, maybe even a bit narrower, which could also be from the GY's running a bit wide:

I never thought one manufacturers 285 versus another would be visually different. I thought those numbers were/are standard.

They're standard as to what they refer to, lol.

Michelin and Goodyear seem to run a bit wider than others though

Do you know how "wide" Toyo (R888) and Mickey Thomspon (ET Streets DR) run? Those are the 2 I'm debating to replace my Nitto's, 305 wide.

I think I heard or read somewhere that Mickeys tend to run a bit wide too, not sure about Toyos

Not at all unfortunately as most manufacturers have their own standards for what say a 285 tire should be in their lineup. That's why you should look at the tread width of the tire to see how much tread you are actually getting to the pavement. Take a 305 Pilot Sport Cup 2 tire which has a tread width of 11" and a section width of 12.3", a 305 Pirelli Trofeo R is 11.3" tread width with a section width of 12.6" and a Pirelli Corsa which is 11.6" and a section width of 12.3". Same size tire yet they all have different specs.

Those are odd choices, why not Toyo Proxes TQ I think they are called? The R888's are mainly a handling tire and won't serve as well as drag radials. The sidewalls are pretty stiff to handle the road course and autocross work. I think you would be better off with the MT's or the TQ's then the R888's if you want tires for drag racing. Unless you just want something sticky.

Yes, those ones. I might even consider dropping to 285 square with the Toyos. 285s will fit fine on 20x8.5 and 20x10, right?

Sean - yes, the R888. Here's a link:

https://www.toyotires.com/tire/patte...petition-tires

It's their competition tire. And yes, all I'm after is STICK. I don't road course, or race, or autocross. So the stiff sidewalls is fine. At my power levels, I'm blowing the rubber off of my Nitto drag radials. Unless it's at least 85 degrees out, then I don't spin as bad, even halfway through 3rd.

I heard great things about the Toyo R888's from multiple sources, etc.

They'll fit perfectly on the 10s, but will bubble out like crazy on the 8.5s, so bad that I wouldn't recommend it.
On the 8.5s the width I'd stay with is 255.
Part of the reason I went with the 20x10 fronts, I wanted to run a 275 tire

Ohhh I see now! Yeah the R888's are super sticky. They were one of my tire choices if they weren't so heavy compared to the Trofeo R's or the PSC 2's. I am thinking about seeing if I can fit 325's out back. I have seen videos of a guy with 345 NT05R's in the back which might be a viable option for you since those things are pretty **** sticky as well. What size wheels do you have on the back?

Holy cow! 345's??? I didn't even know those could fit in a mustang fender at all! They can? I would definitely need to get new wheels though. My 20x10 niches have a 40 offset. I'd need something with a 60 offset or something lol.

Other than the R888's, your thoughts on the MT ET Street DR's?
