6. It's all relative. In 3 years the Mustang GT will likely have 430 HP (or more.) Then the people buying those will say, "I can't believe anyone bought the first year 5.0!"

That's just some of the "thinking" behind getting a V6.

But it's still a V6 Mustang!

I think the 2011 powertrain changes should pretty much remove that statement from most people's lexicon.

The number of cylinders should not be the determining factor of "what makes a Mustang". Rather, it should be the entire driving and ownership experience. My V6 will have more HP than the 2005 Mustang (and many of those before it, thank you very much) so does that make THEM less of a Mustang or is it simply 2 more cylinders and a couple of spark plugs? (That's rhetorical; I don't really want to start another "what makes a Mustang" debate.) I believe there was a time when the Mustang was sold without a V8 altogether. Were those NOT Mustangs?

bottom line....

Get what makes you happy and who cares what others think? You don't pick your wife or husband based on what others think? You don't choose your place to live based on what others think?

If people give you crap because you drive a V6, screw'em. I am a V8 person but think no different if someone wants a V6. Gotta love living in the USA where we can choose!!

I don't have one. But "chick's bike" is the slam by more than a few. Incl a previous girl friend that had a lowered Police bike.

Guess its like a V6.

I've never met anyone who regretted buying a V8 Mustang. I've met more than a few who regretted buying a V6 Mustang.

By and large in life you get what you pay for. So if you want to pay 6 -8k more get the V8. But frankly keep your order and in a few years you can always upgrade to the V8 if it matters that much to you.

Eh, the difference would "only" be about 5k...

Still wracking my brain. Can't decide. I have little experience in V6's OR V8's. Tempted to go test drive a V6 Camaro or a 350Z to see what V6 off the line feels like, since 2011 v6's are hard to find to test drive.

Test drove V6 Camaro. It was a bit torquey in second, but I wasn't too impressed. If the 2011 mustang V6 is anything like that....meh.

Between gearing and the car's curb weight, you might have been getting the "meh" from there.

The answers for you have been consistent. V6 is a good engine with power and fun transportation.
So now you can add butt feel. But V8 has WOW factor/grin power.

Camaro: 3.6L V6, 304HP @6400, 273#' @5200.
Mustang: 3.7L V6, 305HP @6500, 280#' @4200.

Mustang: 5.0 V8, 412HP @6500, 390#' @4200
'10 GT: 4.6L V8, 315HP @6000, 335#' @4200 w/91 octane (325#' with 87)

I am 75% sure I will call my dealer tomorrow to change my order to a GT, but only if it doesn't push me back in the build queue.

The monthly payments would only be $699 after my down payment. And yeah, I'm keeping the glass roof.

Default 18 inchers. No brembo. I will not be racing or doing crazy stops with this car. I am just going to drive it around and have fun at stop lights.

This is the time to make sure of what you want. Its cheaper to do it now, rather then later. Both will be super nice. Ron

I don't know if this is what I want. I feel I am being impulsive. But this whole car buying thing is impulsive; I hadn't planned on this at all about 6 weeks ago. I think test driving that 2007 GT spoiled me. The 2011 Camaro V6 I test drove had acceleration that felt particularly lethargic except for a few seconds in second gear.

I would only keep my 2011 V6 Stang now if I knew it felt at least as good as the 2007 GT, but apparently it's lacking that punch. The only option is for me to test drive a 2011 V6 but they are hard to find and I wonder if the dealer would look me up before the test drive and see if I already had an order pending...
